i also spent two weeks there over easter!! never again!!! that was 1999, that was the year dw said lets stay at all star and save some money. i was set up!! i ended up spending $23000. for 400 points in dvc! cheap vacation!! im glad we did it when we did, i couldnt afford to buy 400 points today.

First, Stopher, great pictures and narrative on your DL trip.

OK, so here's my quandry. We live about 3 hours south of WDW and visit on average once per year for at least a few days and nights. We have never seen Cinderella castle with the Christmas lights. We are buying seasonal passes and are definitely planning a December trip for early December 2010 (when crowds are lightest and will also correspond with the Dad's Meet), but we were also thinking about just driving up for a day trip the week between Christmas and New Years. Have any dads been during that week? I have heard it is crazy busy but would like to know if anyone has experienced that firsthand. Unfortunately, can't swing a trip this month before Christmas, so our only option is right after. Should we bite the bullet or wait until next year?

Here's a thought, we went on our trip one year and arrived on the 4th of Jan if I remember correctly and all of the lights and events were still going on. It was not busy at all, I guess everyone cleared out right after the holidays. With you only being 3 hrs away maybe go on the 2,3,4 of Jan 2010. They probably wont take down the decorations until mid week and you could see it all with no crowds.

True! and on the flip side, they have it set up for Christmas a few days after Halloween. The weekend after Thanksgiving everything goes into full effect. When The Dis Dad's are there in Dec. everything for Christmas will be in play.

Looking at the news a big snow storm coming tomorrow, they say the the shore will be hit hard, already have cabin fever since I work in a freezer everyday, when I go to work it's dark and cold , on the way home it's getting dark and is cold. In the summer everyone is dressed for the beach and I'm going to work in a sweatshirt and long pants, get out and for the frist 10mins I can feel the cold leaving my body. The only positive with the job is you never work up a sweat.

OH YEAH - we went down there on New Year's Day one year and stayed for 9 nights. The trees were still up, the music loops still playing, decorations everywhere...until about the 8th that year. Then suddenly, our last day in the park - it was all gone. Quite a switch after a week of Christmas music playing, etc... but also refreshing. The crowds were still there til the 3rd - and then POOF! they were gone. It was wonderful to enjoy the very quiet, nearly deserted parks after 2 1/2 VERY busy, crowded days.

After so many years... I am not a big fan of crowds anymore. I can tolerate them more than DW can, but I do prefer not to whenever possible. We were really spoiled when DW and I first married, well actually for the first 3 1/2 years we were married, and then again for a couple of years at the beginning of the 2000's as we lived literally 10 min from DL. We could go over there for only dinner if we wanted to and leave without a care. When my eldest was little, he and I would go and just spend an hour or so of daddy/son time and then go home again. Many times we would get there, see the crowds, hang around for a little while and then just go home. Our AP's and proximity definitely made it possible. Nowadays of course we don't have that luxury, but with DVC and annual trips or more to both coasts... we try hard to schedule away from the big crowds whenever possible. Not trying to brag or boast, it's just reality. My DW always asks what the crowd levels will be like when we go...

Thanks. I will try really hard to make it work out. I've got the general dates "in pencil" so to speak on my calendar... so we'll see.

That's where we went with our kids in 1990. I can't understand why they let that happen. Maybe someday it will return, like the Tree Houses!

Quite a day yesterday. DD5 had her Christmas Pageant at Preschool. She was Mary, and got to bring one of her baby dolls to be Jesus. Then we took the family to see The Princess and the Frog. In short, it was a very good movie. I'll try to post a better review later. Unfortunately, the day had to be ruined by having to go into work from 7-midnight to some system upgrades.
Hope all you guys out east are handling the OK, we got less than 1/2" here overnight.

We took every one ( us, kids grands the whole famdamily) down for the second week of Dec. 1999, every one had a blast and no the parks were not that crowded. busy but not bad.
I know that most of you are not DCL cruisers YET, but I got a real surprise this morning. DW and I are booked for a 4 night in 3 weeks today the docs came in and DW say to me check out the room number......

i see that jan 10th they are going to take the lights off the castle and put a construction wall up in the front portion of the castle. they are starting a 3 month referb. on it.

wow, that sounds great!!! dont forget to stop at 191 exit on rt33 to pick me up!!! i dont take up that much room! its almost 1pm and no snow yet! maybe we wont get anything!!

Richmond got buried (by Richmond standards). More coming before Sunday morning. We'll have around foot before it's all over. Not that big a deal to this transplanted Chicagoan, but it can cripple Richmond for several days.

I always think it's hilarious when I see on news that a place like Houston get 1/2" of snow and they close the schools and warn people to stay home! HA!

Got about 10 inches out there now, they are saying 18-24in for the central & southern shoreline What happened I thought we were in global warming
