OK this is a weird thread but i was just wondering... Can anyone else smell different things at disney when they go places (eg shopping, restaurant etc). I have a real thing about disney smells and find myself shouting out things like "mmmm it smells like test track in here". People must think im crazy when they hear me. Does anyone else do this?

We even do it at home, I'll tell my wife, " doesn't this smell like the lobby........ or doesn't this smell like the MK.....................!! She agrees mostly,
Disney has many unique smells, its not just sights but smells and feels. Ever feel the shrubbery, the leaves on the trees, the stones and rocks around your resort. We do Disney with all our senses and the other one, not sight, brings back many memories.

I love the smell of the musty water in the boat rides! Last time I smelled it was by a little waterfall in the Coldwater Creek store in our local mall. I kept wandering back there to get a whiff and my mom finally asked me what I was doing. I told her "Sniff, it smells like Disney! She replied with the "mom" agree (trying to be supportive but really thinking I had lost it).

For me it is the popcorn, when I smell fresh popcorn I am right back in front of the castle!

Ooh, ooh! This is one of my favorite things to talk about.

Yes, I'm very weird.

The Meadows Trading Post at Fort Wilderness has a wonderful, unique smell to it that always means that I'm in Disney. Our first trip we stayed in FW, and I was 12.

I'm 36 now and the minute I step inside Meadows and take a deep breath I'm right back to 1982.

It's the best!

A muggy day after a rain shower/storm -- that is usually when I'll think to myself that it smells like florida.

PotC used to have a unique smell - musty, moldy. Like the cargo hold of a pirate ship that hadn't been washed out in year.

When I was at DL last summer, I was disappointed to learn that the ride had been cleaned out and scrubbed clean. The ride smelled more like chlorine (from a freshly cleaned pool) than a scurvy-riddled pirate armpit.

Pity.

I 110% agree.
The water one is a big one for me...I am always thinking...mmm smells like Disney.
Pretty much everything reminds me a scent in Disney.
Sometimes I'll be doing nothing and suddendly I'll get a whiff of something (who knows what) but it'll smell like Disney.
Scent is the strongest tie to your memory-Thank you theater class

:thumbsup2 I love the smell as you enter AKL! The delicious meats cooking in Boma drift through the lobby.

Fun thread!!!

Yep, I have fond memories attached to some of the smells at Disneyworld. :teeth:

The first one is the flowers, Jasmine I believe, and I smell them specifically at the MK. They seem to only be in the area by the Crystal Palace, but along the walkway heading to Adventure Land. What a wonderful scent it is!!! *sigh*

The second smell is the smell of the bus exhaust. I get happy flashbacks of WDW when I smell that stanky stuff. :p Odd how that smell can be a happy one isn't it? :goodvibes

.

I thought I was the only wierd person who did this! I often smell things, (sometimes scents I never even consciously noticed while at the parks) and it immediately takes me to a very vivid memory of WDW. I can only admit it when I'm with my sister though. I can just imagine the wierd looks I'd get if I said, "Can you smell that? It smells just like Splash Mountain in here."

The smell of Rome burning in Spaceship Earth.
The smell of all the new clothes at Mousegear
The smells AK.
The smells of the different restaurants. Plus many many more,
all bring back fond memories.
:cool1: :thumbsup2

Here is another vote for exhaust. I dont think Ive ever smelled as much exhaust as I have at WDW. Another one is diesel from the trains in the tunnels. Outside our hotel at our first trip to CBR we smelled a mushroom type smell ALL the time....Now everytime we smell something like that my DH and I always says "ITS CBR!" Another is just the general musty stank. My DH is often in Orlando on business not for WDW and when he comes back from a hotel stay he opens up his suitecase and I get to take a huge wiff... :rotfl:

I am SOOO glad nobody else knows this.... :lmao:

Forgot to mention that the smell of a real old fashioned candy store brings me back to the candy store on Main Street.

The smell of POFQ when you go to a hotel. I have smelled that somewhere else and I was like Disney World!!!

I always use the same shower gel when i go to disney. If i ever feel low then i buy some, perks me up straight away!
The smell of the monorail is a good one, reminds me of disinfectant.
The smell of food in philarmagic-is it an apple pie smell?gorgeous.
The smell in the air after fireworks.

The universe of energy has a very distinct smell that I have caught a few times. I think the same thing.

the smell as you walk through the doors into the Polynesian lobby. ahhhh. There is a brand of face wash that smells just like that, and every time I use it, I imagine that I am there!

The smell of the wood stain? at Poly. Reosrt. I stayed there in 1975 :hippie: at the ripe old age of 11. I did not have the opportunity to return until I was 25 and when we got off the monorail to look around Poly. I about fell over smelling the same scent. The mind and all your senses never forget!

That water smell- people think I'm crazy when I say water has a smell. It always reminds me of Disney!

Even when I smell Coppertone sunscreen, I think of Disney.

Cotton candy and caramel corn are big ones, too.

I have a body scrub - "Brown Sugar and Shea Butter" and it smells like caramel corn- reminds me of WDW everytime I use it.

Grapefruit reminds me of the Grand Flo Spa- I believe many of their products are scented with grapefruit essential oils.

That biscuit-bacon-egg-coffee morning smell in restaurants and food courts always reminds me of Disney whenever I eat a breakfast out and it smells like that.

Hula girl- you have to tell me what face wash smells like the Poly! I'm dying to know!

I'm sure there are more smells and I'll keep thinking. Great idea for a thread, BTW!
