The different disney smells

I love this thread.

  • I'll join the group of people that enjoy the smell of dank water.

I went to Paris when I was 15, and we happened to go to the catacombs. My shoes got dripped upon and I walked in a few puddles down in there; it was also very rainy that week. So, when I got home I was telling my brother how the catacombs in Paris smelled like POtC! pirate: Somehow we got the idea of trying to see if my shoes retained the smell  and they did! I still remember my brother's reaction... not of repulsion but of celebration of my shoes smelling like Pirates XD

We went to Disneyland, we went a lot back then, and we tried to smell it but the smell wasn't there. They must have cleaned it during rehab =(

  • Jasmine
This is kinda reverse for me. My mom's house where i grew up most of my life, she had Jasmine planted in the backyard and every summer we would usualy sleep with the windows open to let the cool night air in... and if the breeze was just right you could smell Jasmine while trying to go to sleep <3

Since they have it growing all over WDW, me = :cloud9:

  • Casey's Hot Dogs
This is a negative-positive. It mostly reminds me of working as a CM on Mainstreet the summer of '01. When you worked the ESPN zone of the sports club store... you had to smell the hot dogs and mustard all night long; that is NOT a plesant scent after an hour or so. To make it worse.. the ESPN zone is extremely boring and is mostly used as a A/C'd or rain free walkway down Main Street.

At the same time it reminds me of working at WDW, and there are plenty of good memories attached to that as well :p

There are so many I'll just stop here!

the fire in Rome is a good one and so is the smell at Big Thunder.
Although for me its a smell that you catch as soon as you drive across the border between Georgia and Florida. We've always driven to Disney (I've been 12 times and only flew down once) and we always stop at the first welcome station as soon as you cross the border. It always smell the same and as soon as I smell it I know Disney is only a few hours away!

Someone else mentioned the feel of things earlier- for me the feel of worn-down wood is always totally Disney! Particularly at FW and Splash Mt.

For me, the smell of any chlorinated pool/pond/fountain takes me right back there. That has been the trigger for me since I was a little kid!

Y'all are going to think I'm nuts, but there is a certain cleaner that they use at WDW (I've smelled it only a few other places). I posted the question a few years back about what it was called, and a CM responded with the name of it but I forget what it was. Does anyone else know the "cleaner" smell I speak of? Most of the places there smell like it. Love it! I'd clean my house with it if I could!

I'm not sure if this is it but there is a cleaner called "Fabuloso" that is used in at some companies and hotels and most people love it. Again, no idea if Disney uses this, but it has a fan following.

For me it is the smell of hot wet pavement. I love it. I am from Montana so not so much humidity but sometimes we do get some on the hotter days and I get to smell hot wet pavement it makes me so happy. :sunny:

I just mentioned this on another thread - I used to love the smell of the monorail. However, on my last few trips the smell wasn't there. Someone mentioned that it smells like Bandaids so I'm going to find some Bandaids to sniff.

i miss the smell of the orange field in the Horizons ride.... I can still smell it over 13 years later... Maybe the reason my favorite smell is that of a orange!!

I know exactly what you mean... I am always saying "That smells like the Wilderness Lodge" and people thought I was nits. Now I know I am not alone!!!

This thread is up to four pages!

I'm actually making a list of 'things to smell for the next trip'. :rotfl:

Ooh, ooh! This is one of my favorite things to talk about.

Yes, I'm very weird.

The Meadows Trading Post at Fort Wilderness has a wonderful, unique smell to it that always means that I'm in Disney. Our first trip we stayed in FW, and I was 12.

I'm 36 now and the minute I step inside Meadows and take a deep breath I'm right back to 1982.

It's the best!
OMG! I was just thinking about this the other day. I was somewhere and it smelled just like the Trading Post! I thought I was in heaven!! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only crazy one! :rotfl:

Anytime my dd smells something bad, she'll shout out "Skunk Bunk" b/c in WDW once, her and some random young boy (they both must have been about 3 at the time just got off "The Figment Ride" and the boy said "It smelled like skunk bunk" and dd thought it was SO funny. Just kind of stuck...

I agree with PamNC about the air conditioning! There's just something about the smell of it in WDW that is unique. Every once in a while, in a place that is especially air conditioned, I catch the smell and think of WDW.

The other thing that does it is the smell of mesquite barbeque. It makes me think of Animal Kingdom.

All the smells down Main Street and leading to the castle! They've been known to slow me down even during EE days!

Musty water smells, esp. for PoC.

The flora/fauna smells at POFQ.

OMG, I SMELL SPLASH MOUNTIAN ALL THE TIME! Just yesterday, i was like OMG IT SMELLS LIKE SPLASH MOUNTIAN IN HERE. i guess its the musty water that reminds me of the splash mountian lobby/line.

I can also smell space mountian. i guess you can kind of smell the freezing cold air at all of the disney atractions.

AKL & Yachtsman Steakhouse are 2 of DH & I's favorite smells from WDW. We are always saying to each other "that smells like AKL" or "that smell reminds me of WDW".

The smell of pavement after a summer rain storm.

I am one of those who uses the same body wash and lotion for each trip to WDW. Juniper Breeze. Then when I sometimes use it at home, I am instantly transported to WDW! As a matter of fact, I read about doing that as a tip on the DISboards.

The smell of the cinnimon buns at the bakery at MK !!

And whenever I hear the brakes of a bus.....I always look to see.....but nope, no disney sign on it.....haha

the smell as you walk through the doors into the Polynesian lobby. ahhhh. There is a brand of face wash that smells just like that, and every time I use it, I imagine that I am there!

Hula girl we too would love to know the name of the face wash. The smell of the Poly's lobby is one of his favorite smells!

How about the smell of the shower water when you take a hot shower at the hotel? It has that chlorine/burn smell. Another person here who misses the orange smell from Horizions.

When I'm at the mall, I always go to the Disney store because it reminds me of how all the merchandise stores at WDW smell. I love it!

I also used to looove the horizons orange smell, and I'm so excited that Soarin' got the orange and pine scents now. :sunny:
