So, what IS the definitive word on EMH? Is it as simple as, "Always do the morning EMH and always avoid the evening EMH"?

-- Joe

I would say it depends on what time of the year you go. We went when they first started and it was pretty nice. Now if you go in the middle of the summer well even on a slow day that place is still packed.

We are going at the end of Aug (21-30) and I was wondering the same thing if it was worth it to go for the EMH at night. I think many will be back at school then, but still, with the free dining promotion the end of Aug will be busier than usual. :cool1:

The answer also depends on wether you are a morning or evening person. If you don't mind getting up a t 6AM, or if you will more then likely be awake anyway, then morning EMH is for you. If you have park hopper tickets and take a 2 to 4 hour break back at the resort in the afternoon you could probably do both morning and evening EMH on the same day but I would strongly recommend that if you do this you sleep in the next morning.

We just got back from 8 days at WDW on Wednesday night, and I do have some advice on the EMHs - DON'T try the late EMH at Magic Kingdom. Even at 1am, it was more crowded than anytime during the week! I'm really a night person when it comes to the parks, so I thought it would be great - but it was out of control packed. The best thing that we found to do was to go to the park that had the late EMH the night before. Most people would not stay at a park late, then rush there in the morning. When we did this, the crowds were much more bearable.

Be prepared, though. It was really hot! But you can make it!

Any the Dining Plan was awesome. That is such a great deal! And you cannot beat eating Filet of Beef in the Castle! Nothing better!

Based on the comments so far, I’m revising the definitive word on EMH to read as follows:

1. If you can get up and going early enough, then do the morning EMH park until around 11:00 or 12:00, then hop to the park that had evening EMH the night before.

2. If you can’t get up early enough to do the morning EMH park, then just go to the park that had evening EMH the night before.

3. Never ever do the evening EMH.

Does THAT seem right?

that seems right. however, we will still do evening emh. i think it will be cool to be at the parks late at night. not expecting to do many rides though.

It really depends on who you ask. When we went in June, we did evening EMH at MK twice, once at Epcot, and once at MGM. MGM was kind of a pain as were the main rides at Epcot (Soarin, especially; but things like SE and UoE weren't bad at all), but I personally had no problem with the MK EMH. We waited about 5 minutes for Pooh, walked on Small World, 5 minutes for Buzz, walked in Philharmagic, and other lines we saw were short as well. We finished everything we wanted to do by about 1:15 and were out of there by 1:30. I was dreading it based on the reports I read here, but I was thrilled with how everything went.

Numbers 1 and 2 are good, and 3 is mostly good, but the night EMH at Animal Kingdom is still okay. Avoid night EMH at MK like the plague!

I am sorry, but EMH, when they have this, does this mean it is both early in the morning and extra hours at night as well? Or is it just one or the other?

It's just one or the other. Every day, one park opens early or stays open late, but not both. Would be nice if it was both though... might spread the crowds out better.

All reports saying EMH @ MK is horrible. Last year when I paid for this option, it was also horrble (1 hour wait for Buzz, splash mountain...etc)! I swore I would never pay again!

This year (in 3 days) We will try it (for free) and if it dont work out...then back to the resort to the pool!! What do you have to loose? :earsboy:

I just dont understand why MK dont stay open till 1:00am anymore, like it always did.

What time does MK actually open for EMH? is it 8am? When official park opening is 9am? Back when they had Early morning "hour" it actually opened at 7:30am not 8am So just wanted to be there when they "really" open. Thanks, Mky princess:

Like I said in an earlier post, it seems to depend on who you ask. I went 2x to EMH in MK at night, and I loved it. No crowded pathways or anything when I was there. Not much of a wait time (if at all) for us on Small World, Buzz, Winnie the Pooh, Philharmagic, Country Bears, etc. Peter Pan was about a 20 minute wait. I can't speak for BTMRR, SplashM, or SpaceM, but the other things were fine. It's nothing compared to the crowds around fireworks and parade time, imo.

OK!....MOST reports are that EMH are afwful!

However, I rather listen to you!!!! We will definately give it a try.

I am a little suspisious of these boards sometimes. I think maybe people report that things like EMH are Horrible, so lots of people stay away.

I notice this with dining! The restaurant that most people say are horrible...are the ones WE think are the BEST! So I am either 'off kilter" (wouldn't suprise anyone who knows me)...or there is a secret DARK side with a underbelly to decieve for self serving purposes on these boards????? :confused3

The OFFICIAL time for EMH is one hour before the OFFICIAL opening!
HOWEVER..."Official" means if anybody asks, thats what we tell them!!!!

Pretty much as of last year, they opened MK @ 7:30 on EMH days & 8:30 on non EMH days!
Its WELL worth it! We can do ALL of Fantasyland (except Philamagic)& Buzz Lightear in less than a hour!!!!!

Our trip was from July 6th to the 16th. We used the evening magic hour twice at MK and we loved it. We thought the crowds thinned out quite a bit and the longest we waited for rides like buzz of BTMR was 20 minutes tops.

I also thought it was really cool to see the park at night.

Evening EMH is wonderful - regardless of the count of attractions you rack up.

Being in the parks for an extra three hours is a wonderful, relaxing time if you let it be.

If you go expecting empty lines and no other guests, you will be disapointed.

I hate crowds, but I make a point to go to evening EMH. If you go in prime season, of course it's going to be mobbed, but that's when you just find a quiet spot to enjoy the magic. Also, the end of evening EMH is better than the begining - most people don't stay all the way through, and you can walk on many rides in the last hour or so.

That said, don't let anyone make your decisions for you unless you experience it yourself. It would be a shame to miss out on a magical late evening in a park because other people had different expectations that were not met.

My family and friends will be trying AK evening EMH the 3rd week in August. Our idea is that it will be nice to experience AK in the evening, we usually go 1st thing in the AM and out in early afternoon. We are not going with a lot of "see and do" expectations more of a stop and smell the roses visit. I read that the Boneyard is open and it might be nice to let the kids play - usually we are trecking from one ride to the next! If we can catch a show or hop on a ride great, if we just take our time animal watching and talking with CM's, also great.
It's a plan, we'll see how it goes in real life!

around what I think will be the morning and evening EMH. I made all of our PS in the parks that have the extra hours, and planned our days to take advantage of them. I figure that if it gets too crowded, we can always hop (or maybe not at that late) or go back to the resort. I wouldn't stay at the resort all day in the hope that I would get to ride all my faves during the evening EMH, though. During our 10 night trip, I'm pretty sure we will only get one shot at each park for evening EMH, except for MGM. On the night AK has its late hours, we will probably be enjoying MNSSHP. So, we will probably do 1 night at MK (in addition to MNSSHP), 1 at EP, and 2 at MGM. Unless I'm miscalculating.....that's only half my trip. Is there both a EMH morning and evening park each day, or just morning or evening each day?
