We had made a little tradition of reading the touring plans from the UOG as the boys' "bedtime story". The night before, we hadn't gotten very far before the boys were dreaming of pixie dust. D. & I studied the plans and really weren't sure what we'd do.
We woke up a little bit later that morning - we were all just a little wiped out - but it was still early enough. We had a little bit of a hard time getting the boys out of bed, for once. Here's Woody, not having anything to do with waking up:
But, we managed to get up and enjoyed another one of our quick breakfasts in the room. This was Thursday, and our dining companions were these guys:
We were down to the bus stop by 8:35, which was a bit later, but unfortunately the bus didn't show up until 9:02. No rope drop for us! Oops. The bus for MGM from AKL also goes to Blizzard Beach, so we stopped there first and didn't get to the park until 9:20. It still wasn't very crowded, but I was kind of bummed that we didn't make 100% of our openings. Oh well...
Now, this is where
I am no longer in the running for Mother of the Year...
We went over to ToT. The boys are both tall enough, no question. I had ridden it in 2000, but D. had never even been to MGM, and so it was all on me. I thought the boys could handle the drops, considering how they did on Splash Mtn. and so forth, and I didn't remember that anything was actually scary during the ride.
The boys took one look and balked. Big time. So, we didn't worry about it much and just got FPs, figuring we could come back later, or D. & I could each go twice.
So, we walked all the way across the park to the ride that the boys had been asking for since the trip was announced: Star Tours!
There was no wait for ST, so we walked right through the queue. I started noticing Buzz doing the "potty" dance, but we were nearly loaded. Hmmm. This is a back story - Buzz is a camel, or something. He often will not go to the bathroom unless you remind him (but he doesn't have accidents), and sometimes will go many, many, many hours. I had forgotten to TELL him to go in the hotel room, so the child hadn't gone to the bathroom since 11:35 or so the previous night.
He pretty much refused to acknowledge that he needed to go, so onto the ride we went.
The boys LOVED it, commented through the whole thing, "Hey, there's Endor! This is Darth Vader's music! Captain Rex is SO silly!" It was a huge hit. We exited through the dump shop, where they really wanted to look around, but I felt that it was very necessary to find a restroom. I got Buzz out, he was fine, and we met back up at the photo op area for the little hover
scooter things from Return of the Jedi.
Woody:
Buzz:
We were heading towards the Muppets when we ran across Woody (the character, not my kid!

)
We then headed over to the Muppets. The boys had gotten the first season of "The Muppet Show" on DVD last year and really love it, so we've been collecting the movies and watching the show a lot. They really liked this 3-D show - score!
It was now time for our return to ToT.

Woody was actually very willing, but Buzz had gotten a little freaked out again. We finally asked the right question, "Why don't you want to go?" The answer, "I don't have my pixie dust."
We had rescued his pixie dust from that first night from the short pockets, but the shorts he wore most days didn't have pockets, including the ones this day. Darn! So, we had a talk about how even though he didn't have it WITH him, he still had it, and it still worked. He finally agreed, and off we went.
I still can't believe I thought it was a good idea to talk my 5 year olds onto ToT. It seemed fine at the time, though...
We had no wait in the FP return line, and got pretty much right on our elevator. We were in the front row, Woody next to me and Buzz with D.
Woody was completely freaked out by the ghosts in the stops pre-drop. Whoops. Apparently, so was Buzz. The drops started, and I was having a ball, but Woody just kind of sat. He didn't scream, he didn't cry, he just looked big eyed and solemn. He is more than tall enough, but he just doesn't weigh that much, so he was rising pretty far out of his seat. D. reports that there was an older girl, 12 or so, behind him just sobbing, but that Buzz did about what Woody did. Buzz asked him, at the end, "Is it over now" and D., not having done it before, had to say, "I just don't know!"
So, we got off, Woody looked at me and said, "I do
not want to do that again." You got it, buddy.

They still, when talking on the phone to my mom just two days ago, are saying things like, "I liked everything, but I did not like ToT." Whoops. I asked them yesterday if they'd try it when they are older. "No, mama, I am never going on that again."
They were OK, really, though, and we got this picture to show how brave they had been:
I grabbed the adults' KTTW cards and ran to get RnR FPs. (Side note: I only realized later that I should have taken the boys, too, and D. & I could have each gone twice. Sigh.)
The boys decided they were hungry, so we headed BACK across the park. Another thing they were very excited for at MGM was Pizza Planet. We got in line and it was pretty quiet there, so we all waited. I reached into my Baggalini to get my card ready, and had D.'s and the boys. I said to D., "Oh, I must have given you back the wrong card after I got the FPs, 'cause I have yours."
D., "You didn't give me back a card."
I figured out pretty quickly that I had probably left it in the RnR FP machine. We were ready to order by then, so I asked the CM what she suggested. She figured my best bet was Guest Relations, so I had D. order lunch for himself and the boys, and headed back out to see what could be done. I, of course, had put charging privileges on the card, so it was a little more important to retrieve quickly...
I started toward the entrance area, but then thought about it. There is always a CM near the FP machines, so maybe it would still be in that area. So, I more or less RAN back all the way across the park (again) to RnR. I went up to the FP CM and explained. She asked if it was a day ticket or a KTTW, looked in a handy dandy cabinet disguised as a roadie case, and ...
pulled it right out.

Pshew!
I called D., they were still very much eating, so I RAN back across the park (this is the 5th time across for me) and got my own lunch, and ate. Pizza Planet was great on the
DDP as there are no kids' choices, so we all had combo meals of individual pizzas and salads. The salads were nice and fresh and quite large, and the pizzas were yummy. D. & I had the Junkyard with lots of toppings, Buzz had the Woody combo, and Woody had the Buzz.

The kids had more than they could eat (they do like salads, thankfully, too) and with the DDP you get the dessert. We had skipped our dessert at some of the QS places - Tusker House, for example - but D. had gotten cookies for himself and the boys, and I got the Mickey Krispie treat, and we tucked them all in my bag for later!
Lunch is a good stopping point! Up next, what happened at RnR???
