I've come away with no hard feelings ( even though i bore the brunt of the attacks )

I hope in some way my posts made some people take their rose coloured glasses off. And i personally have come away thinking i've learned some new things.

That's the saddest part of it all, I believe we all feel that we've learned some things from this board. Personally, I've lurked there more than I've participated, I feel though that what I've learned could never be measured in any monetary value. And yeah VH (or JJ), I've even learned from you, even though you're the person everyone loves to hate. While I rarely will agree with you, I do respect (mostly anyway) what you contribute. I for one will miss that!

Well i never and theres me thinking i'd more fans than the winner of Pop idol :teeth:

I totally agree ::yes::

Oh for the Love of God...Van Helsing (or whatever your name is these days), you brought on those attacks and you know it. ;) Quit playing the victim, it doesn't suit ya. :p

I am sad the debate board is gone. I am sad that people who didn't regularly participate in the debate board have such bad views of the DB and the DBers. I spread my "love" around and post on many of the boards around here. If the problem was the board was getting out of control then there should have been more moderator action. Just saying you had an INBOX full of "report to moderator" emails is not doing the work to correct any problems. Plus my money is on that not even 1/4 of those were legit complaints. I know some people like to go over there for the sole reason of reporting posts to moderators.

The DB has given me lots of entertainment from laughs to getting angry. I'll miss it. :(

I am quite amused by some of these replies. As stated in another post, finally, the "powers that be" finally saw the light. Most of the people on the debate board did not even know HOW to debate. They used that forum to sling mud and hurl insults, while prentending to debate. I suspect the true debators will find other means to legimately participate in a real debate, while the others who know nothing about debating will invade the CB with the mean spirited attitudes that were so prevalent over on the now defunct DB. Again, all the people of the CB should be ready to have each and every thread analyzed and picked apart. To all my fellow C B ers just a heads up :duck: :duck: :duck: :duck:

Doesny, with a post like that you would have fit in well with the DBers you speak so "lovingly" of.

I'm a little late coming to this, ah, 'debate', but I can't help but think that if more people, on ALL the different boards, behaved as though they were standing in front of the person/people they were responding to, this wouldn't have happened. There sometimes seems to be a complete lack of respect for others when we are on-line. Common courtesy goes a long way....even/especially when debating. If you don't like something, pass it by. This is not rocket science people. A total lack of respect and good manners is what got the debate board gone!!! You can have differing opinions and still be pleasant. But, some are just belligerent by nature, they'll never change. Hopefully we can keep the CB from going down the same path.

Now....my big gripe here???? Pixie-dust is starting to get a bad rap. Sheesh...first the Universal commercial about 'pixie-dust and fairy tales not enough for you?' and now the CB'ers formerly known as DB'ers are using it as a derogatory statement. Please....not my pixie-dust!!!;) :)

The only thing I can say is I feel sorry for the moderators of this board. They are sure going to have their work cut out for them now. Good luck to you all.

And really, what in the world is the matter with pixie dust. So sorry people want to be nice

Exactly!

Oh well its too bad. The CB'ers can be happy as I for one won't be hanging out here. The CB never appealed to me and I did learn things on the debate board. The DB had gotten into a label plastering fest sort of mode but was in the process of coming around again.

I do think the moderators pulled the trigger too quickly...unless of course reported posts wasn't really the problem. Locking threads, posting warnings in threads would have gone a lot further towards getting things under control. One thing I'd noticed about the DB was how little moderation it appeared to get.

However one argument in management's favor...I've recently discovered other boards and the DB tended to cause me to spend less time on those...it pulled me over there like gawking at a traffic accident. No one ever came to a Disney board looking for a debate.

For those that are complaining about the DBers, I have to ask if you didn't like what you saw there and you have all the other boards here to choose from, why did you visit and what difference did it make what went on over there? No one is forcing anyone to participate in any aspect of this entire board. And if JJ/VH is right that someone was upset enough to ask for their sponsorship money back, all I can say is that person shouldn't have visited the DB. Sure, it was a "rough crowd" at times but if they ever visited an unmoderated forum their head would explode.

IMO, the board was only reflecting the mood of the times. We have a war and a very heated election so it's likely that some people would become a little more passionate about those topics. I thought for the most part everyone there conducted themselves properly. It might not have followed the guidelines at times but I didn't think it was bad enough to kill it.

Right on! The Quote of the Day, imo. :)

And before someone discounts me as a airheaded pixie dust loving CB'er, I'll remind you that I once was an active member of the DB. Just not my thing anymore. I don't see why we all can't co-mingle together, as long as we don't attack those with a differing opinion. It CAN be done, believe it or not! :)

I agree John but it seems the may sayers got thier way and we lost out on a place to go and vent and talk politics etc. Problem is Snoopy when you have a heated debate people get their back up and attacks do happen wether we like it or not or even mean to it happens.

For the many people (including on a thread on the UK community board) have the opinion on using the debate board that 'If you don't like the heat stay out of the kitchen'.IE if you haven't a thick enough skin don't go on the debate board! My point is why? I'm not thick skinned and am upset and offended by attacks whether in person or cyberly! But I like to debate and discuss my view points on topics, why should I have to have armour plating to do it?:earseek:

I received several e-mails and PM's saying don't let the DB bullies get you down.If these posters some of whom have posted on this this thread had such a reputation,I'm sure you're disappointed and sad to lose the debate board, but have only yourselves to blame.Did you think you could maraude about the board unhindered and unchecked indefinitely with your jack book tactics and sarcasm?

What about us lesser mortals who like debate and discussion but not aggression and confrontation?

Surely the demise of debate is imminent when on a thread I posted ,let's agree to disagree and the posts answering this were ,agreeing to disagree means you've lost the argument!
If both parties acknowlege they can see the other persons point of view whilst still strongly feeling their own is the right one, surely this is mature and constructive debate. When only I'm right and you're wrong (and not only wrong but stupid, pathetic etc.to boot) is the pervading opinion.............. debate is finished.

This Latin phrase sums up the debate board for me......ad hominem---an argument that relies on personal attact rather than reason:earseek:

When I posted to say I wouldn't post on the debate board anymore and explained why,a regular answered with'Long post......Bye:wave2: ' sarcastically.

So to the debate board and the posters who brought about it's end....Bye....:wave2:

I have to ask if you didn't like what you saw there and you have all the other boards here to choose from, why did you visit and what difference did it make what went on over there?

....because we wanted a debate without name calling and rudeness...thats why !!!!

Doesny, with a post like that you would have fit in well with the DBers you speak so "lovingly" of.

...and here is a prime example of what it was like !!

Denise:rolleyes:

How are you all up sooo early? I went to bed at 11:30 and I am tired now! You all, as it appears from your posts...went to bed much later and your up! LOL!

Anyway, I agree. I never complained and I posted a few times. Maybe it got closed because the Moderators are conservative..and they didn't like me as a liberal! LOL! I am just teasing. :)

As I said before, I know people really got their feelings hurt by going there. I was almost broken a few times (but I have thick skin) and I graduated at the top of my class...so if I am called stupid or a bad parent..so be it. I know who I am.

It is a shame that it had to close, but at the same time, I think people got a little mean for others. I never got a warning, but I may have even offended some religious people. So, even sweet, adorable me could have offened. Although...NEVER did I EVER intend to if I did!;)

We all morn the loss of the DB, I know I do, but there's one thing that everyone needs to remember; this is Alex's little world, and in it he reigns supreme. Thanks Alex for at least giving us the opportunity to use the debate board.

::yes:: (Altho, I personally wouldn't say "most"...but "enough".)

Uuhhh...Pete doesn't OWN DisneyWorld. Universal and SeaWorld aren't HIS competitors.

Did you think you could maraude about the board unhindered and unchecked indefinitely with your jack book tactics and sarcasm?

Not to pick on one poster in particular since there have been quite a few examples already, but it seems that CBers are no less into name calling and insults than the DBers.

you brought on those attacks and you know it. Quit playing the victim, it doesn't suit ya.

I think this proves the point - if you didn't agree or follow a certain line this is what happened to you ( Personal attacks )

Here here Karen ( well said ) ::yes::

In all fairness to Alex, he did not make this decision alone. As he stated, it was a "management' decision.
