Amy -- hope Alyssa begins to enjoy her swimming lessons. Special PD to Kevin for all his hard work and help with projects. I'm so glad you are feeling better!

Now that I am caught up, I need to vent so don't feel obligated to listen but I got to get this out as if I try to talk to Eric he just gets upset and it isn't good.

We were told about 3 months ago that come July 1st he would be getting a significant merit increase in his paycheck (more than 10%) along with a Cost of Living. Well today he comes home and tells me that it is only the cost of living which is a whole $52 more a month. Now of course our insurance will go up so it will end up being about $20/month! I am so PO'd right now as he has not had any merit increase in his salary in the last 8 years and we have only had the Cost of living the past 2 or 3. He works for the University of MD which is has been in a budget crunch for ever! Eric cannot understand why I am so ticked off as there really isn't anything he can do. We have certainly thought about looking elsewhere for a new job but the benefits of this one are too good. Free college for us and the girls, not to mention he has a work vehicle so no use of our car back and forth. Free cell phone and numerous other little things. I just feel that we will never get ahead. Not to mention he busts his but for the job and it seems as if he just gets the short end of the stick.

Thanks for letting me get that out!

How very frustrating! Vent any time. That is what friends are for!

Robyn - That was quick! Lots of colleges offer good perks, and lots of colleges want good willing teachers and are willing to bargain for them...I take it he's not tenured yet? Maybe take that into account and see if waiting it out at MD until tenured or moving to another college...I've always thought there's no harm in looking at other jobs! (Of course that's how I got my job...just looking! :teeth: )

He is actually just a Network Administrator that happens to have his paycheck signed by the Univ of MD. He actually works for a org called HIDTA, which is a combo of state & local police, FBI, DEA, ATF units. Its very confusing! He has looked in the past but when you take away the benefits that he gets now it really isn't worth it as the extra $$ in the paycheck would go to gas and cellphone. It just ticks me off that we have waited and waited and nothing!!

He can possibly transfer to a different HIDTA, of course all of them are in high cost of living areas. He also has priority within the Univ. system and there are other areas of MD that we would love to go to but nothing has been open when we have looked.

Has anyone seen Zathura? It is playing at our local outdoor film festival tomorrow night and at the free theater on Monday, so I'm wondering if I should take the kids.

Emma loves it as does Jake the 4yr old I babysit and his father as well. I haven't seen the entire movie but the few minutes I see here and there are cute. They even play the game when playing!

Robyn

hugs to Molly - I know how bad allergies stink!! I hope she gets some relief soon!

also - I totally hear you on the salary!! I think it is hard on the wives who aren't loyal to the company like husbands are - we all think they should make the millions of dollars they deserve!!!!!!

I'm sorry Robyn. I can totally relate though to the COLA (we call it market scale adjustment now, I guess that's more PC) vs. health insurance thing. I go through that every year. Does he have any type of civil service board or grievance procedure that he can go through?

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

I feel better now!

The doctor just called - Nick's heartbeat was fine - but there was an irregularity in the test that was either caused by a test lead being in the wrong position or an enlarge heart chamber! He is our regular doctor but not the one who ordered the test - so he is going to leave it up to her on if we should have the test repeated or not - *** - the hospital offered to repeat it at no charge to the customer - why wouldn't I get it repeated?!?!!?!?

He is very laid back - which is nice b/c he isn't an alarmist - BUT he also is slow to action - I never go see him when I want action taken (such as getting tubes for Julia etc) I love him and my kids love him and he stops me from freaking out about things but there are times I wish he would act a little faster.

I am sure the other doctor will have us repeat the test - so I guess I am going to be playing the waiting game a little bit longer!!!

I would just insist that the test be done again and soon. You need the peace of mind of knowing for sure how Nick is. Be firm and get it done.

Good luck with that, Jo. Is it in Oregon or are you still looking to relocate?

I have already decided I am doing it again - I know the other doctor will agree with me - it was too late to call the hospital to schedule today - so I will call tomorrow and see when I can get it done - they can usually schedule it for the next day

I've got a few pages to catch up on, but wanted to get some info while I'm reading along. Can you guys tell me what the going prebuy or contracted rate for oil next year is in your area. We are looking at prices ranging from $2.55/gal to 2.64/gal. Most companies are only doing prebuy this year which means $3000 out of our pocket upfront. Just wondering how we are fairing versus other areas.
