We were told about 3 months ago that come July 1st he would be getting a significant merit increase in his paycheck (more than 10%) along with a Cost of Living. Well today he comes home and tells me that it is only the cost of living which is a whole $52 more a month. Now of course our insurance will go up so it will end up being about $20/month! I am so PO'd right now as he has not had any merit increase in his salary in the last 8 years and we have only had the Cost of living the past 2 or 3. He works for the University of MD which is has been in a budget crunch for ever! Eric cannot understand why I am so ticked off as there really isn't anything he can do. We have certainly thought about looking elsewhere for a new job but the benefits of this one are too good. Free college for us and the girls, not to mention he has a work vehicle so no use of our car back and forth. Free cell phone and numerous other little things. I just feel that we will never get ahead. Not to mention he busts his but for the job and it seems as if he just gets the short end of the stick.
Thanks for letting me get that out!

yellowfish78 said:Robyn - That was quick! Lots of colleges offer good perks, and lots of colleges want good willing teachers and are willing to bargain for them...I take it he's not tenured yet? Maybe take that into account and see if waiting it out at MD until tenured or moving to another college...I've always thought there's no harm in looking at other jobs! (Of course that's how I got my job...just looking!)

yellowfish78 said:Doesn't that feel great to do sometimes!? Don't you wish we could do it all the time and actually get the recommended sleep we are supposed to?!

I'm sorry Robyn. I can totally relate though to the COLA (we call it market scale adjustment now, I guess that's more PC) vs. health insurance thing. I go through that every year. Does he have any type of civil service board or grievance procedure that he can go through?mommy2emmersNmo said:Now that I am caught up, I need to vent so don't feel obligated to listen but I got to get this out as if I try to talk to Eric he just gets upset and it isn't good.

I feel better now!
The doctor just called - Nick's heartbeat was fine - but there was an irregularity in the test that was either caused by a test lead being in the wrong position or an enlarge heart chamber! He is our regular doctor but not the one who ordered the test - so he is going to leave it up to her on if we should have the test repeated or not - *** - the hospital offered to repeat it at no charge to the customer - why wouldn't I get it repeated?!?!!?!?
He is very laid back - which is nice b/c he isn't an alarmist - BUT he also is slow to action - I never go see him when I want action taken (such as getting tubes for Julia etc) I love him and my kids love him and he stops me from freaking out about things but there are times I wish he would act a little faster.
I am sure the other doctor will have us repeat the test - so I guess I am going to be playing the waiting game a little bit longer!!!
Good luck with that, Jo. Is it in Oregon or are you still looking to relocate?Brendita said:Evening All.
