Ok, I have a dilemma. I switched the reservation to ASMo and now John is very upset and mad. Turns out *HE* is the true resort snob, not me. And he's upset that Rees won't have the CM hotel, the monorail, and the MK View. So now I'm totally torn as what to do.

He says the $1600 is worth it for the convenience, the nicer rooms, view, and CM and the monorail for Rees. So should I just chalk it up and switch it back? I really don't know what to do.

Thanks.
Poor Denise!

If my DH told me the $1600 was worth it to stay on the monorail, I'd switch back in a flash. That will never happen, though.

If you have your heart set on AsMo, I'm sure you can find a way to persuade him!

I would never be able to talk Chuck into one of the value resorts. To him, it isn't worth it. I made myself sick worrying about the money we could be saving if we were to stay at one of the value resorts the first two years. I thought about how much longer we could afford to stay, how many more souvenirs we could buy, etc. Then I realized that it wasn't worth the stress for Chuck so I stopped thinking about it and just went with POR.

If John is that upset about it and willing to pay the difference, I would switch it back and then I wouldn't think about it or change it again!

The money is very important, but I think he is so worried about Rees and feels he would really miss the monorail and the "Chef Mickey Hotel" which is ALL Rees talks about. I think John feels we should splurge here and skimp other places so that Rees can be really happy.

I just thought I did so well saving money. I'm very happy and proud that he's such a good Dad that his child is more important than the money. Guess I'll end up switching back. But now we'll have to make a trip to ASMo to see the icons after I showed them to the kids today.

If you can afford it, do it!!! When I took my family down in December 2004, it was Poly or nothing. Poly conceirge with Chef Dick and the monorail. It was worth every penny.....

Disney is my obsession. Yes, I know I need a 12 step plan. But I work so I can go to Disney. And I love staying in nice resorts. Especially if we are going to have some resort time.

If I have a park commando type trip (like the one with Terry) where we never saw the room, the values and mods are fine. But if we are going to be at the resort alot, and we are with small children, then I want a nice resort, with a balcony, and I don't want to have to leave the building to get food if it rains, and I don't want to have to fold up the stroller every darn time I go to a park....

Now that I bought DVC that's all I hear from my DGD. Are we staying at a hotel with the monorail? Can we take the boat to the MK? grrrrrr..

CAROLINE

We do call our Caroline, Carli but just because it is short and cute and a little bit easier to spell. I have never heard anyone call her Carolyn, but I have had a lot of people tell me that they wished I would just call her Caroline, because it is such a beautiful, classic name. I hope in the future (when she is a successful doctor or lawyer) she will go by Caroline. She thinks that it is really cool that she has 2 first names!!! Most importantly how many people can actually claim to have a Neil Diamond song named after them (except Angelina & Brad's baby girl, and also anyone named Cracklin' Rosie :rotfl: )!!! I have already informed her that she will be dancing with her daddy to "Sweet Caroline" when she gets married!!!

I did struggle when I was prego w/ her on how I should spell her name, since I knew we would call her Carli. I debated briefly on spelling it Carolyne, and spelling it Carly or Carlye. I also have no trouble finding personalized things for Caroline but I have never found anything for Carli.

My Caroline is Caroline Grace, and I love Caroline Elizabeth!!!!

Whew, now that I got that off of my chest  !!!!!
Brian hates that song and that's his biggest opposition to it. I love the song. I've wanted the name for about 15 years (nothing to do with the song).

I really do love Lauren too.

Well, this Deluxe snob took the plunge and booked 2 rooms, preferred building, at All Star Movies for free dining! I'm actually really excited. I know the kids are going to flip when they see all those larger than life icons. I think we'll rent a car to have as well for going to and from the parks. Oh, and it saved us $1600, and we're getting 2 rooms vs one. John will love that!

So any tips or advice for ASMo? Guess I'm going to be doing some research.

Hi Denise,
Ramiro & I stayed there 2001.
The buses were always crowed.
All 3 of the All stars share buses.
I would rent a car with 3 little 1's.
Ramiro sat on my lap to many times.
He was a lot smaller 5 years ago.

Maybe you can make the trip to see the icons at ASMo and talk that up quite a bit during this trip so that on the next trip you can stay there and save the money.

How difficult would it be to split up the time with a few nights at ASM and the remainder at CM. For my family that would be a lot of trouble but it is a thought. What about the kids?? Let them look at the pictures on the website and let them decide. It is a huge jump from CM w/ conceirge to ASM. Just remember..........."If daddy is happy then everyone is happy"!!!

You're right. It's not worth having a big fight over. He went to bed very upset with me for switching and taking it away from Rees. I'd try POR, but we'd prefer the Mansions over AB. I'd need 2 rooms, and we can stay on the monorail for that price. Having that 5th person makes staying at WDW much harder to find accommodations.

There is no way we could split stay as it would be too much turmoil and change for Rees. Guess we're staying CR and making Daddy happy. The kids will love it with CM and the monorail. We aren't staying concierge, but getting a MK Tower Room.

I say go for CR! If I could, I'd come & stay with you!!! :lmao: I love POR but one day I'm going to try a monorail resort. We'll do it during a value season sometime so that we can get a deal.

I am calling it a night.

Dawn............I hope the final vote goes for Caroline Elizabeth

Denise..........Another thing to keep in mind about ASM. You have to walk from your rooms through an open air courtyard area to the main lobby where the food court, gift shop and bus pick-up is at. At CM you are inside the resort the entire time. You would be subject to the outdoor elements going to and from the lobby to your room if you are at ASM. Plus..........you don't have waterslides. I don't know if that is a big thing for the kids.

Lynn

I am with John! I can't seem to get by the convenience of the monorail myself. I'd switch back...there's a lot of value to a "happy husband"!!!!

I've been thinking because I'm totally baffled by this. Carolyn(n) and Caroline are two very different names here. They don't sound similar at all. Maybe it's a regional thing because here the emphasis is on "line" in Caroline and in Carolyn the emphasis is on "car" (pronounced care).

I thought we'd have more of a problem with Lauren being called Laurie or Laura since here they sound similar when pronounced. I've had my name (Dawn) mistaken for Lauren.

This definitely has me curious. I might have to start a thread on the CB asking people how they pronounce the 2 different names!

Must be regionable differences......... :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

:cheer2: :cheer2: Thank you to all who have replied to my whiny dilemia.... :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I'm going to wait and see if I get anymore feedback.

If I could I would go in September and December and May.....and...... :cheer2: :cheer2: :cloud9:

I was planning on a great night on the thread, but I have to go now because we just got a very sad call. I don't know if you remmeber me talking about a friend of ours DD who was sent to WDW in late Apr from Make A Wish. She was only 10 yrs old and today she passed away after only a year of having cancer. I am so very sad right now. And ti think I was complaining that DH and I forgot about our anniversary, how flipping trivial is that crap. This little girl was fighting to then end and we didn't help the family any these past past few days and now she is gone. I know we couldn't have done anything about it, but I wish I would have done something like make them a meal or something.
I have a few calls to make and a few things to do for the family. I might be back a little later.

Here is a news story that was done about her if you'd like to read it.

10-Year-Old Girl Spends day as KC-10 Pilot
Air Force Print News | Jennifer Brugman | May 31, 2006

Travis AFB, CA. - It was a foggy day in San Francisco when a 10-year-old girl flew a KC-10 Extender under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Katie Powell, daughter of Senior Master Sgt. Chris Powell of the 60th Operations Group, was named Pilot for a Day May 19 and given an inside look at the daily life of pilots at Travis.

Master Sgt. Kenneth Rossa, 60th OG C-17 loadmaster evaluator, started the program to provide opportunities to local children who are facing life-threatening diseases. Katie has Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer.

“We’re just trying to treat her very special today,” said Capt. Cate Fienhold, 6th Air Refueling Squadron executive officer. “She is a very strong girl.”

Katie started her day with an honorary pilot presentation. She received unit patches and a scarf. She then went on to her mission briefing and obtained her orders for the day along with a donated flight suit.

Her mission began at the air traffic control tower where she spoke to pilots and aircrews in flight.

Then she took command of the KC-10 simulator and flew out to San Francisco, where she buzzed the Golden Gate and executed a near-perfect landing on her first try.

From the simulator, she went on to KC-10 boom operator training, had lunch and then toured an actual KC-10.

At the end of the day, she met Col. Steven Arquiette, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander, who gave her a coin and the scarf from around his neck.

“One of the things she kept saying was that she was thankful,” Sergeant Powell said. “She understands how much work people have to do. Everyone we visited took time out of their day to show her around.”

Sergeant Powell works as a KC-10 boom operator; the tour gave Katie a chance to see what her dad does at his job.

“To be honest, it was just fortunate that I happen to work in the same type of area,” Sergeant Powell said. “I had nothing to do with it other than my daughter was the recipient.”

Katie was the first Pilot for a Day at Travis.

“One of the things we told her was that she was the test run,” Sergeant Powell said. “I asked her if there was anything she recommended to make the program better; she said she wouldn’t change a thing. It was perfect. She really had a great time.”

The day was not without its surprises for Sergeant Powell.

“When they asked her what job she wanted to do, she said boom (operator); that was a complete shock to good old dad,” he said.

Denise -- I know how hard it was for you to make the decision to move from the GF, to Contemporary to ASMo. I think the kids will have a great trip no matter where you stay. That being said, I really think that the Contemporary might be better for this trip for Rees. The kids will have just started a new school and you a new job. Since Rees already loves the Contemporary I think you might see fewer sensorial issues if you stay there. Our therapist warned us that Andrew would have a quicker adjustment when out of his routine if he had some familiar things to help him adjust. When he was younger we found this to be especially helpful. Now that he is 10 1/2, his adjustments to many things are much easier, and not even a problem at times. Just our experience -- might not be how Rees reacts.

Definitely take the kids by ASMo, if you don't end up staying there, to introduce the kids and get them excited for a future trip.

Anywhere you stay, I'm sure it will be a lovely trip. You work hard to make sure your kids have a special experience in everything you do. They are truly lucky!
