Coming right along, although the antibiotics are causing another female
problem, time for yogurt again. The invites have been sent and the menu is
planned, most of the decorations have been picked up, I still need
to order the cake and rent a helium tank. I've been so tied up at work lately,
I really couldn't afford to miss the time I did last week. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to staff a business here on the coast now, after the storm I sat in a daze wondering what we were going to do, my job was destroyed and my husbands was flooded under twelve feet of water. I thought we were in for a long haul as far as employment goes, but his job "dug out" and
because he is in management he went right back to work helping with the process. My company had four stores here, two of which were destroyed,
they placed any of us that wanted to work in the two stores that remained and both of those stores are still struggling to keep them staffed. I took over the HR position and it is a nightmare, in a store that only had 51 employees prior to the storm we have had over 300 turnovers.

Thanks so much for asking, I'm still trying get it straight as to who goes with what screenname, I feel like I've stumbled across a very tight knit group here that honestly care about each other and it is great. Not to mention that I love the designs.

My DD's boyfriend will be going with us on the Congrats trip and is getting really nervous about all the t-shirts I'm making. Everytime he comes over the pile is bigger. He told my DD that one of his friends said he was going to be one of "Those" people that wears matching shirts and walks around smiling and holding hands at WDW. I'm working on a design to tease him with, it's says "Yes, I'm one of those people", my oldest DD wants me to put Zip a Dee Do Da on the back, and we thought we would tell him that it's our family tradition to hold hands and skip down Main Street singing Zip A Dee Do Da, but not until we are there so he can't back out.

Hope everyone has a great day and I pray that little Rees does well with his tests.

Debbie
:wizard: Hope everything falls into place and your problem gets better. I try and eat yogurt everytime I go on antibiotics to prevent the problems.

Can I get some advice please?

My parent's 40th wedding anniversary is Dec. 17 and I would like to do something for them. What I am thinking is a vow renewal at their church with about 25 guests (people that would definitely show up), then a reception afterwards. My parents didn't have a big wedding, so I thought this would be nice. I would invite more than 25 people, but the rest would be out-of-towners and I don't know how many would actually travel for something like this. Plus, it would be in the winter and the weather would play a big role (snow). Here are my questions:

1. Their anniv. is Dec. 17. Would it be okay to have this on Nov. 25 instead of around their actual anniv. This would work better for me, as that is Thanksgiving weekend and we will already be home, instead of going up there for the 17th and then back again at Christmas time.

2. I would like it to be a surprise (if the secret could be kept), or is this something that I should tell them and let them help plan? I'm afraid if I do tell, they would say that I don't have to do it or wouldn't want it.

3. Would it be better to just make dinner reservations at a restaurant with a banquet room or rent a room where I can have something catered and have a dj w/ dancing and such?

4. Or should I scrap the vow renewal and just have a party/reception?

Feel free to make any suggestions. I really need some input.
I think the vow renewal would be sweet but I would give them a heads up on that in case they wanted to try and write something to say to each other. as for dancing depends on if they like that. For my grandparents, all us grandkids got together and sang some of the songs from their era. Like "Me and my shadow" etc. (We're a musical family) Anyway, they loved it. It could as easily be the grown kids that sing. Just an idea.

Hi, all.

We just got home. Rees did very well today, and I was so proud of him. He had the ultrasound at 9am this morning, but didn't get taken for the Endoscopy until 2pm. It was a really long day for him. As far as weight, Rees has lost another pound in one weeks time.

After the Endoscopy, the surgeon said the esophageal Diverticula was very small and the Fundo actually looked fine. However, on the Abdominal Ultrasound, they found that Rees' gallbladder is completely full of bile "sludge". The surgeon said it indicated an Acute Gallbladder, meaning the symptoms appear suddenly. A gallbladder attack mimics all the symptoms Rees has been having. So, on June 5 (unless something else changes) Rees will have surgery to remove his gallbladder and clean out all the bile ducts. The surgeon will try to do it laparoscopically if he can. Rees will spend one night at Egleston Hospital and have a week recovery at home. John and I are so hopeful that this may be the solution to Rees' pain.

Thank you all so much for the emails, calls, and prayers. We will keep you updated as we find out anything else.
:wizard: :wizard: for Rees. I had gallbladder attacks last summer and they are extremely painful. Poor thing. I avoided surgery by taking medicine. But, the surgeon had gone over all the possibilities. I would try to avoid anything with fat in it as that aggravates the gallbladder and we'll pray that the surgery goes well and can be done laparoscopically.

I just got back from taking our dog, Shane, to the vet. He has developed a large lump on his butt, next to the tail. So she aspirated it and from what she can tell it does not appear to be anything serious. However, if it keeps growing it could eventually interfere with his rectum and going to the bathroom. So if we are going to have him operated on we need to do it now, before it gets bigger and harder to close. So, the estimate is around $600. The difficult part is that he is almost 15 years old, but really in good health otherwise, except he is going deaf. So I'm thinking this is something that needs to be done.:guilty:

So, we now officially own two houses! At least we don't have to pay a June payment on the new one, so that's a relief. And while we were eating dinner, a woman pulled in our driveway and took one of our house information sheets out of tube attached to the for sale sign.

Denise, thank you for taking the time to post an update on Rees. I hope you are starting to feel better, and you all are in our prayers!

Tammi, I have no experience with planning anniversary parties. I do agree with the sentiment of it not being a surprise though, so that they know you are taking care of things. I'm sorry Shane's vet estimate is so expensive. It sounds like a procedure that has to be done, but I know what a hit to the pocketbook it is!

Paula, love your pictures! Glad you had fun!

Anne Marie, your girls are beautiful!

Jennifer, I hope the studying is going well. I would suggest getting a trim or something to "spruce" up your hair (not that it needs it!) before your trip, but don't play with the color until after.

Kate, I hope you're taking an antibiotic for your sinus infection...I know how you are about taking medicine!

Dawn, how did things go today?

Marti, you better post some pictures tonight!

Paul, I hope the new job is going well!

Kristine, thanks for all your advice and input from a realtor's standpoint!

June, congratulations on your "new, improved version" of your WDW trip!

Deb, congratulations on all the progress you're making around the house today. Loved the pics you posted.

I sincerely hope I'm not excluding anyone! :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

And here's a :grouphug: for all my DDA friends!

Amy :)

P.S. Don't forget I'm going out of town tomorrow! I might be able to sneak on my mom's computer to keep up with the thread, but I won't have email access.
:wizard: I hope your house sells soon. :cheer2: on your new house. Good luck with all the packing and moving. What a pain moving can be. Hopefully it goes smoothly. :goodvibes

Paula, just had to say how absolutely GORGEOUS you looked in your dress uniform!!!!!!!!!!!! Hottie DDA Chick! And your DH is pretty easy on the eyes too...

See y'all Tuesday!

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I decided not to beg off of Vacation Bible school b/c Julia and Nick really want to go -

so before I left I sent off a list of current volunteers to the volunteer coordinator

She is new to our parish and was recruited to the position - and has never talked with the old Coordinator to find out what she was supposed to be doing - to be honest I am not sure where the breakdown in communication was b/c we also have a new director this year

anyway - the rest of the VBS team has been around for a while and we just know how we all work and what we do and we have not needed to have any meetings

so instead of finding out what she was supposed to be doing - this girl just decided to do what she did at her old parish in the same volunteer position

Our parish is HUGE and very active and getting volunteers is never an issue - so we use the volunteer coordinator to solicit gifts for the volunteers and to make name tags and keep them happy the week of VBS

My job is registration - and we have a form that every VBS student and volunteer must fill out - it is on a first come first served basis b/c the program is so popular - we don't really ever have to turn people down but it is always close

once I get all the registrations - based on the needs and who has volunteered - I assign the volunteers and then pass the info off to the volunteer coordinator

so the other day I find out this girl started soliciting volunteers and assigning them jobs :confused3 so I sent her an email (she has yet to answer a phone call to her house) explaining to her what I do as registration coordinator and what I need her to do - she shoots me back an email telling me that I am wrong and that she can't believe that we will get enough volunteers without her soliciting them - b/c at her last parish they had one volunteer for every 3 students and that the more volunteers the better and there is no way we can ever reach that ratio doing it the way we always have

last year we had one volunteer for every 1.5 students - and this year we have 113 students registered so far and 72 volunteers!!!

So she sent an email to volunteers today and it went to another girl on our leadership team - telling people to let her know where they want her to assign them and if they want to be on the leadership team (you know the group of 6 people in charge) to just come on to our next meeting!?!?!?!?

The new Director is out of town so there is really no one I can talk with who would be in charge - I just have no idea what to do - can you imagine coming in to a parish and trying to take over like that?
I would be extremely upset. :grouphug: Hopefully, things get worked out. And she figures out how your parish runs. :wizard:

Here is a photo that I took before the concert. The cafegymtorium as dh calls it has really poor lighting to photos don't come out in there :guilty: I did take a video, but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. You can tell from the picture that Nick was not keen on having mom take photos while his friends were standing there watching him :rotfl: Such is Life.

I have to be up early tomorrow so I'm off like a prom dress :rotfl:

Deb
Nice boys, yep my stepsons(12 and 14) don't like me taking pictures of them. Glad you enjoyed the concert and your one on one time with DS.

You could say I feel slightly overwhelmed right now!!! I think if I could really figure out what is going on with Nick things wouldn't seem so bad to me - I just feel like something is off with him - he doesn't complain about his head but he seems more lethargic and crabby to me - I tried to schedule his EKG but the doctor forgot to call in the orders and I keep missing her - and now whenever Nick gets in trouble he looks at me and says "me sick" - so I know he has learned the sympathy I give him with those two little words and now I can't tell when he means it and when he just wants my attention - and on top of everything he has turned into a serious Mama's boy and ONLY wants me all of the time!

Steve has a small procedure tomorrow and is under a HUGE amount of pressure at work which of course is spilling into our home - and is not something that he can just leave at the office

and I find out Wednesday if I need surgery -

I have a lot of unknowns in my life - I can deal with things when I know what is going on - it is when I feel helpless that I get upset!

So as for this situation - I emailed her about how things work and told her that until I get a registration form - these people aren't registered in the program and I will not place them until then - which might mean they won't get the slot she promised them b/c I am working on first come first served - I have to do this the way we always have b/c I know it works!! and that is how everyone else is expecting things to be done - and if the new director thinks the other way is better - then they can do it next year - odds are I won't be doing it anyway!
:wizard: :wizard: I hope everything works out. Prayers for your family. I hope the procedure with Steve goes smoothly and work lets up. Hopefully, the dr. gets to the bottom of things with Nick. and I hope your knee is getting better. :grouphug: So much stress it's a wonder you're not sicker.

Hello everyone, hope you all have a nice weekend, even if you or your family members are feeling a bit sick, overwhelmed or just plain blah.

on a lighter note: What makes a gallbladder go bad? cause I am thinking if I could lose a pound a week ;)

Don't lose the weight too quickly. That is one thing that can cause gallstones. I had two friends that had to have their gallbladders removed after losing about 25 pounds on WW. I made it through to losing more than 100 pounds ok. I've also heard female, fat, and forty (which was me!), and I knew that I had some gallstones for years. Some women experience trouble when they are pregnant. One friend's husband also had to have his gallbladder removed, and he really didn't have any of the risks.

Good night, Lynn. I'm about to do the same thing. Just waiting for a load of towels to finish drying so I can pack one, and one more pot to wash. Do you tent camp or do you have a camper? Or, are you doing as I am, "cabin camping?"

Melanie and I both have small cars (her van died), so we don't really have room for all of the tenting equipment, so I booked camping cabins for this weekend and the 4th of July weekend. That's all the camping we'll do this year.

We have a pop-up...........but...........I waited to late to decide to go with everyone so we are putting our tent on my mom's site. We have a total of 3 sites and about 27 people. Although 7 of them will be driving back and forth from their home each night. My brother only lives about 15 minutes from the campsite and he is NOT a camper. So my step-daughter and her husband are going back and for with them. I really enjoy it!!!
