That's very cool, but you had us freaked out for a minute there :rotfl:
I thought it was a double post, until I looked and saw it was different people.

Kate I'm so sorry that things are uncertain in your world. Uncertainty is so difficult to deal with and creates more stress causing more problems. It is a never ending cycle. :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: :grouphug: That next week brings answers to you and yours.

Dawn. I'm glad that the pregnancy is going well. Since you've done the diabetic diet before I'm sure you will acclimate to it easily and have a healthier baby for it. It's great that you got some "first photos" of your little girl.

To all of you travelling this weekend. Have a great time, take it easy and be prepared to read 100 pages when you get back :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Those of us not lucky enough to be travelling need something to do afterall :rotfl2:

Have a great time!

Need some suggestions. My girlfriend is pregnant with her 2nd girl and her mom has asked me to throw her a shower. I did for her first and my girlfriend has thrown my bridal and 2nd baby shower.

Dana doesn't need anything big as she has kept everything from her first. And she has kept all of her clothes as well. I want to keep it simple but really don't know what to do. I am thinking along the lines asking everyone to bring a casserole or meal that can be frozen for them to use after the baby comes. My other girlfriend, Amy, thinks that is crazy as Dana will expect gifts. Now Amy has no kids and I think that after Molly came I would have much rather had dinners than all the clothes I did get. Gimme your ideas please!!

How about having everyone bring a package of diapers and wipes. She will use so many over the years that the baby is in them. Suggest various sizes as she won't need too many newborn and will probably need a lot of size 4 and 5s. If she plans to bottle feed and knows the brand of formula that would be another useful gift. Disposable bottle liners add up quickly or new nipples for old bottles. Even if it is a second baby she'll want some new items and I'm sure that there is new equipment out there that wasn't available when the first was born. I had 3 boys and exersaucers were introduced before my second, my first swing died to I needed a new one, had to get a double stroller (have a few people chip in). Before the 3rd they came out with the portable swing and I needed a new double stroller as we wore the first one out.

I'm sure that you can think of a lot of items that she will really need and would love to not have to spend the money on.

Good luck.

Dawn

I am so sorry that you failed your glucose test - I did with Julia and the monitoring was pretty easy and became second nature - it really kept me on track - the good news - I weighed 25 pounds less two weeks after delivering her than I did the day I got pregnant - it really is the best diet I ever went on
Thank you. With Christopher I actually had to have blood drawn once a week, so I definitely think this is better. I agree that diet is great! I'll find out more about what they're going to have me do as far as diet when I go to the nutritionist next Thursday. i know the diabetic diet takes lots of time for meal planning so I might have to give up this thread for a while, lol!

I did not have a shower for my second child. I just couldn't see it, because I knew everyone would feel obligated to bring gifts and I didn't need them. We didn't find out what we were having either time and bought everything neutral, so it was could be used for the next child.

How about instead of calling it a "shower", think up a snazzy new name to go along with the theme you have in mind. Either way it is to celebrate the arrival of a new baby, not simply to get gifts. I do like your meal idea though. Does she have a separate freezer that would hold everything? That would be important, especially if she gets a lot of meals.

I think the freezer meals are a great idea. Just make sure she has enough freezer space if you decide to do that.

Diaper showers are also popular around here for women having their second child.

I know that other than clothes (because I'm having a child of a different sex than my first) I would want meals, diapers or gift cards over more baby stuff. Unless you really want to keep it a surprise, I'd ask Dana what she prefers.

Tammi's last post gave me the idea of a "Pamper Party" each guest could bring either a package of Pampers or an item to Pamper the Mom. That would be fun and I bet you could come up with lots of games to go with that. I can already think of a few.

Deb

Good morning everyone. I am finally caught up.

To everyone travelling this weekend.....be safe and have great trips!

Kate - I hope Steve's "procedure" goes well. Are you going with him? Maybe Nick is just going through some 'growing pains' and his personality is changing a little. Did all that extra walking around we did affect your knee in any way?

Thanks for all the PD for our dog. I think I will call and schedule it today.

That's a great idea. Diapers for the baby, spa treatment for mom!

Well I managed to drag my sorry butt out of bed at 6:30 this morning. That is no small feat as I am not a morning person. I got the kids to school with their big project and spent about an hour checking out the different science fair projects. I was impressed that the only duplicate projects were the erupting volcano and the mouse maze all the others were unique. It was so much fun having the kids explain what they did. They each stood their just waiting for someone to check their experiment out. Hunter was really having a good time. I forgot my camera, but Hunter told me not to worry, he would set it up at home so that I could get some good photos. I think I will video tape him talking about it. I have my fingers crossed that Nick's Vermont project/presentation goes well this afternoon. He seemed pretty excited about it this morning. As excited as a 10 year old boy gets about schoolwork.

I've even managed to get Hunter's room picked up and vacuumed. I am going to let him do the surface cleaning when he gets home. Now work on Nick's room.

Vicki-

Those Pic's are awesome!! So glad you have a new grandstuffy to spoil!! :lmao:

Sounds like I may be the only DDA'er not going anywhere this weekend. I doubt there will be too many pages for you all to catch up on after this weekend.

Guess what we found after we got the DVD of High School Musical? A Piano music book for the songs. The girls were thrilled!!

I'll be around! Of course since there have only been 20 pages since AI ended the other night I think you're right that it will be slow.

Ok, I've skimmed the thread. Hope I don't miss anyone (going off memory).

Theresa and Vicki- very funny. I thought it was a double post too!

Kate, sending you hugs for all you are going through.

Marti and Paul, can't wait to read your update and see pictures! How's the new job going, Hunka?

Amy, congrats on the new house! PD that your current one sells quickly.

Dawn, sorry you failed the glucose test. But it sounds like you'll do well on the diet. And your DD sound like she's going to be a wild woman!

Tammi, sending you PD for your dog.

June, Lynn and all the other campers, have a fun time this weekend!

Deb, the pic of your boys is so cute. Do they always coordinate their legs (had one leg up)? The concert sounded really fun.

Julia, have fun on the cruise! And congrats to your DD on graduation.

Hi to everyone else in the DDA! Hope you have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Hi, all.

We just got home. Rees did very well today, and I was so proud of him. He had the ultrasound at 9am this morning, but didn't get taken for the Endoscopy until 2pm. It was a really long day for him. As far as weight, Rees has lost another pound in one weeks time.

After the Endoscopy, the surgeon said the esophageal Diverticula was very small and the Fundo actually looked fine. However, on the Abdominal Ultrasound, they found that Rees' gallbladder is completely full of bile "sludge". The surgeon said it indicated an Acute Gallbladder, meaning the symptoms appear suddenly. A gallbladder attack mimics all the symptoms Rees has been having. So, on June 5 (unless something else changes) Rees will have surgery to remove his gallbladder and clean out all the bile ducts. The surgeon will try to do it laparoscopically if he can. Rees will spend one night at Egleston Hospital and have a week recovery at home. John and I are so hopeful that this may be the solution to Rees' pain.

Thank you all so much for the emails, calls, and prayers. We will keep you updated as we find out anything else.

That sounds very promising, Denise! I hope that something relatively simple (compared to the alternatives at least) will be the answer to Rees' recent problems. You have our continued prayers and :wizard:. Enjoy your long weekend!!
