Dawn -- I think the set is very cute! If you don't want to add lace (good idea Marti and others), add a few bows in yellow or coral to the bumper if you think it needs a little something more.

I've been ploughing through with my essay again today, the second of two due in on Monday... it's really hard and I'm struggling...

Anyway I just got an email from my course leader, our tutor has been off sick for weeks so we've had no support and no online activities, so one of the lads emailed him today to complain and I was supposed to follow up tomorrow... but our course leader has come back to say he's really sorry and we can have an extension to May 17 :faint:

I'm not sure if that's good or bad though as I work so much better when a deadline is looming and now I'm likely to put my feet up for a fortnight :rolleyes1

:rotfl:

Clare I think you should continue working on it now then show what you've done to the tutor to get a critique and ways to make it better. You will feel so much better if it is at least partially finished. Didn't you take today off to work on it anyway? Might as well put that time to good use.

Quick DDA Poll:

How much is regular unleaded in your area? We're at $2.99 at our cheapest station and quite a few are between $3.05 and $3.15.

Beth

I saw lots of $2.95 here today. I can't believe I filled up early last week for $2.64 :sad2:

If you all could send some prayers up for a family in our church, I would appreciate it greatly! A little backstory:

They joined the church when they had 6 kids. Dad was kind of a workaholic and really just a huge jerk (to put it bluntly). Well, with kids 7 and 8 (yep, 8!) people sort of (appropriately) questioned the mother as to how things were going, since the 6 kids sort of had her frazzled, etc. She made it VERY clear that she really only ever wanted 4 kids (although she loves them ALL dearly, obviously, and is great with each one) and Dad said they "had" to have more, as long as they were blessed with the ability to :confused3

Fast forward to last fall, when Dad leaves them for a hot young girl. A decision he talks to his kids about: "She's younger, more attractive, and has time for me" ***?! Hmm.... maybe you could be home and spend some time with your WIFE and the children you desperately wanted. Just my opinion, of course.

Fast forward to today. Mom gets a call from school. Apparently the oldest boy (second oldest overall) who is.... maybe 13? Tried to kill himself in the janitors closet. :guilty:

The biggest shocker of it all? The school's response. Apparentely he has been talking about wanting to kill himself for months. Red flag, definitely something mom should have been alerted to by now. Even worse, the last few weeks he has been TELLING OTHER KIDS how he would do it. Holy crap. When someone actually has a plan of action, it's REALLY a big deal. Still nothing. Just told the boy "he shouldn't discuss things like this with the other kids".

Even today, when they called her they suggested she call to see his doctor. HUH?! My thought is a little more drastic than that, but what do I know? So she calls, he obviously tells her he needs more than primary care pediatric help, so she calls someone she knows that is a psychiatrist. They aren't taking new patients, but the schools says "that's fine. we just need documentation that you are aware of the situation and are trying to follow up"

Needless to say, when I can find out what school that is (particularly), my children will not be going there. Sounds to me like they are just covering their butts, but what the heck?! This kid needs help :sad2:

Sorry that got so long. I just wanted to ask for prayers for the family, espeically the mother who was JUST in the hospital last week as one of her kids was diagnosed with diabetes. She is also terrified that Dad will try and use this against her to prove she is "unfit". Not sure why, because it's not like he wants the kids anyway...

But then I had to add that school vent. Am I overreacting, or is that rediculous?!

ETA: Kyle called my mom and provided her with the psych hotline for Children's hospital, which triages and tries to identify paths of care for any sort of psychiatric sitaution. Hopefully she will call, and they can direct her to an ACTUAL peds specialist or clinic, if not convince her he might need to do at least the partial hospitilization program to get started.
:furious: :furious: The whole situation is terrible. I mean really how did the husband expect her to look young and attractive with 8 kids! Let alone have any free time. As for the school, I would sue their a** off. They should have notified her well before an attempt was made. I hope that she finds him help soon as most failed attempts are followed by another attempt if the problem isn't resolved. :wizard: Prayers sent. Another suggestion is a lot of churches offer counseling and it's on a payscale. (Not sure of the financial situation.)

The ironic thing is, she looked great! She was in fantastic physical condition and looked MAYBE 30, when she's really almost 45. His new "girlfriend" though, is not quite 25

He always had some issues, though. Even with 8 kids to consider, her "monthly budget" INCLUDING groceries and doctors appointments, etc was $250. I don't think that would cover groceries, as far as I'm concerned! Not for that many people. Anything more than that and she would have to ask for more, which he would give if it was for a doctor or somethign, but not very happily.

It's a really sad situation :(

Thanks everyone for the prayers though!

Clearly!! I love them!! I don't wear watches but if I did - they would all be Disney!! I have the pooh face one that you have and a gold Mickey one - which is a lot for a girl who doesn't wear watches!!

Are you still planning a shopping spree at World of Christmas on your next trip (I am hoping that was you) when you do it - I would love to see pictures of what you buy!!!

Has anyone done a pin exchange lately? Maybe it is time for another!!

Glad you all like my watches. :)

I actually have 2 of the 75 years with Mickey. I was wearing the one I bought so my sister gave me another for my birthday one year. I wish the Cinderella Castle one would have came in a tin, but it was a promo through Kodak film.

Yes that was me and yes still planning on the World of Christmas shopping spree. :teeth: I will post pictures.

No one has done another pin exchange and someone asked (sorry not good with remembering names) if there was gonna be another, and others mentioned they would be interested.

What if you make the sleeves all shreddy when you cut them off. You could do that with both the jacket and the shirt underneath. Then you can attach a small stuffed alligator to his shoulder and it will look like he has been battling Tick Tock.

You know how some pirates have a parrot on their shoulder, well he can have an alligator!

Jennifer

What a cute idea! And we have the plastic Tick Tock Alligator. I bet he's too heavy to attach, though. Anyone care to help me? Have you seen a stuffed animal one?

I need help from all of you creative people out there. I accidently destroyed the crib set I had with Christopher (which was unisex) but I got a blue PBK gingham/chambray bumper set super cheap to replace it. It also came with a chambray duvet which I'll never use, but could use the fabric for something else.

I also found these valances super cheap because the set was discontinued. I also got the diaper stacker to go with it.

So...I'm afraid it might look too boyish with all of the blue, but I don't want to buy new crib bedding when I already own this, and I really love the striped material. I'm thinking about putting the bumper on so the solid blue is facing out. I was also thinking about turning the valances into a dust ruffle (I have 6-7 of them). Or if someone had a better idea for a dust ruffle, I'd put the valances on the window over the panels I'm going to make. I'm making my own panels so I can use blackout lining for naptime. I'm not sure of the color of the panels yet, but I'm thinking it would be one of the colors in the valance.

Any suggestions on how to make this work for a girl? I'm thinking the walls will be green or yellow, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Here is a picture of the bumper with the valance, showing both sides of the bumper. The colors in the valance are yellow, blue, green and a light coral. The coral is showing up darker in the picture.

This one shows the diaper stacker, so you can see the yellow fabric.
nursery2.jpg

Sorry the pictures are so big.

I'd paint the walls the lightest shade of coral/pink that would work. Edge the bumper in coral rick-rack ribbon. Hang up some girly, feminine pictures on the walls. Buy a pretty floral pillow for your rocker. Maybe get a cheap girly area rug to go in front of the crib.
