PNO4TE - Well, it was worth a shot! We almost had a mini DDA meet going! Our plans always started the 30th of September, so it was pure luck that the dining plan popped into it! I'm scared because of it now, I'm afraid it's gonna be swamped! Since they've been there before during F&WF, would you mind if I pm you some questions?

UP - Just let me know if you need an address! Or, would it be easier to ship directly to the hotel? Can we ship from the hotel? (I'll have to find that out today...)

Feel free! It is one of our favorite times to go! I answer questions for our AAA TAs here in town so I won't mind a bit spreading any help I might have into Ohio too :rotfl: Younger DD was born in Dayton so I guess I have an obligation to help you all out. :rotfl2:

I'm so glad it is not just me although my kids are a lot older than yours, I still have a basement full of toys that the kids have outgrown, baby toys that XXX gave them, the little tykes doll house with all the minature tykes toys and family etc etc etc I am such a hoarder and even reading here doesn't make me get rid of it!!!!!!

Not what I should be telling you, I'm sure, but...my mom kept a lot of our old Fisher-Price toys. My kids and my brother's kids have a great time playing with those at her house. It's something new and completely different for them. My mother is very organized, though, and had them in boxes in the basement. I just have stuff strewn everywhere.

Hi. I feel pretty silly lamenting about this, with the more serious problems we all face, but I figured you might be wondering where I've been all day, so here goes:

We lost one of our cats today. We noticed Mickey was acting a bit odd on Saturday, but it was easy to assume he was at odds with Lucy, the other cat. (Lucy is the alpha cat and she typically puts him in his place.) Yesterday, we noticed he was walking funny, so I made him a vet appointment today for when Kevin got home from work, so someone could stay home with Alyssa. Well, when Alyssa and I got back from getting her pictures taken this morning, Mickey couldn't even walk, so I begged Kevin to come home early and I rushed him to the vet. He had a bladder infection and though he survived the process of unblocking him, his heart gave out after the procedure. I feel terrible. He was only seven. And Alyssa keeps asking where he is. :guilty:

I'm going to turn the computer over to Kevin, because I asked him to design our Easter card, but I'll try to check back in later tonight and respond personally to some posts from the last 36 hours...

Amy

I am so sorry for your loss.

Beth

Since everyone is talking about things from their childhood I thought I'd share some stories before I head off to work.

My godmother used to make cakes for a living. Up until my 10th birthday, she would make my birthday cakes. My 5th birthday I got a cake shaped like Kermit the Frog, with a stuffed Kermit the Frog. I still have Kermit. He's the uglest thing in the world, but he's brings back so many memories. Isn't it odd how one thing can do that??

My nephew was a blanket carrier as a child. He loved the edging on the blanket more than anything (you know, that satiny edging?) I'll have to post a pic of him with his blanket. He turns 19 this year, and we always tease him about this blanket. So what does he do? He pulls out his wallet, and lo and behold, there is a piece of "blanky" there. :rotfl: He's just too cute.

My boyfriend Bob's childhood stuffed animal was Paddington Bear. He still sits on our couch, no matter where I try to hid him, he's there the next day. When he was 4, he made an ornament of Paddington's head for the Christmas tree. (It's too cute seeing "Bobby" on the back of the ornament in BIG letters!) Paddington's head gets a "special box" when the Christmas tree ornaments comes down, and if it's not the first ornament on the tree he freaks out because "Paddington might be lost forever!" (Unknown to him, I always put it in the box first, so he helps me put up the ornaments. He has a habit of stopping once he reaches Paddington. :rotfl: )

Does anyone remember Romper room?? I used to get SO MAD when they wouldnt' say my name at the end of the show...

Ok.... so for future reference, if you turn the boards to "DIScreet mode", be warned. Even if you click "quote" and THINK you will, in fact, quote someone..... you're wrong. :rotfl:

I went back and (sort of) edited my posts I made from the hospital to reflect who they were in response to or what the heck they were about. :confused3

Have a great day, DDA! :goodvibes

Denise - I meant to add this before to your ideas. I think that if you would enjoy teaching that's a great one. I had also thought of school nursing, but you are right -- there are so few openings that it's just something you either have to wait for or get lucky and stumble upon. But have you ever thought about doing an MSN program and look for some sort of NP position? If you're going to go back to school anyway, with a BSN it shouldn't take more than a year or two tops (probably closer to 2 part-time). Then you can work in a physician's office, a hospital, etc and could CERTAINLY have a better shot at naming more convenient hours. I even have a faculty member that works for a clinic and doesn't do summers at all.

Just a thought to throw in the mix... good luck whatever you decide! :goodvibes

With Elizabeth... DH took a picture of a ski run sign that said
Ellie's Run -->
<-- Liz's Run
Ellie is the nickname for Gabrielle and Elizabeth was only two month in my belly. Now we didn't see the picture until I was 7 months along because DH didn't develope the film, but if that is not a child letting you know what her name was.... then I don't know what is.

Best of luck.

Sounds familiar.... Ski runs at Heavenly???

I know what you mean about the flag folding ceremony. We had that for my husband's funeral. 21 gun salute. The whole nine yards. When the soldiers came to give me the flag, I had them present it to his mother. She gave him life, I felt she should be honored at his death....

Steffy -- wow -- already knew you are amazing, but that was very generous of you! What a wonderful thing you did! :grouphug:

Well sorry to spoil your fun :rotfl: It's really strange though -- i checked again, and sure enough it appears you can quote :confused3 Oh well

Morning all! Well, I paid for my "late night" of 10:30 trying to get out of bed at 5 this morning. :surfweb: A couple of Diet Cokes, though, and I'm good to go know. Unfortunately for Phil, Terra woke up at 5:45 and couldn't go back to sleep without me apparently. I have suggested a nice long stroller walk around mid morning to hopefully induce a nap. Otherwise, I'm afraid that Phil will look like this  by the time I get home.

In my sleepiness last night, I forgot to email myself my itinerary so I can't go my TGM comparison yet. :( I guess I'll have to wait until this afternoon to see how I panned out.

Well, I'm off to grab a snack and then back to work for me!

Oh Amy, I am so sorry..that's so sad. :grouphug:

Thank you so much for all your kind words. I get all teary-eyed every time I look at one of Mickey's favorite lounging spots and trying to fall asleep was tough, because he always slept on my legs. He was such a sweet kitty. Kevin and I rescued him from the Target parking lot in August 1999 when we were returning a broken item from our wedding registry. He was the smallest, dirtiest orange and white hairball, but he was our first "baby."

Here's a picture of me, Alyssa, and Mickey, taken a couple days after we brought Alyssa home from the hospital. You can see, Mickey was no longer small!

Thanks again for your condolences. I'm taking Alyssa to an activity at our community center, but I'll be back at naptime to finally respond to everyone else (I even took notes! :) )

Animals are very important in our lives. It's amazing how much their absence is felt. I'm so sorry for you, Kevin & Alyssa. :grouphug:
