Marathon Weekend 2027

Thanks for all the support for March Movie Madness and ideas for how to bucket things out! After reading all the posts, I think we'll go with a hybrid of my original split and @Novatrix's excellent suggestion:

  1. Disney Animation (including Don Bluth films now owned by Disney)
  2. Pixar Animation
  3. Disney Live Action (Ex. Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean, live action remakes, Old Yeller, Parent Trap, 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea, ect.)
  4. Disney Acquired Live Action IP (Ex. Star Wars, Avengers, Aliens, the Muppets, Indiana Jones, ect.)
If you want to get a head start thinking on your answers, tomorrow's SAFD will be to list your top 3 in categories 1 & 2 in order. We'll do categories 3 & 4 next weekend. As always with these contests, please don't add extras to or have ties in your list. I have to score all the answers out to ensure we get the best match ups possible and that makes it much harder to do.
Region 4 is going to be brutal to set up given how many perfect or nearly perfect movies could be nominated. I could do one from each of those examples without much trouble at all.

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to Sundays Are For Disney (SAFD) March Movie Madness! In year's past, we've crowned our favorite WDW attractions and restaurants in our very own elimination tournament. This year we're going to pick our favorite Disney movie. We'll take the next two weekends to populate our brackets by listing out favorites in these categories:
  1. Disney Animation (including Don Bluth films now owned by Disney)
  2. Pixar Animation
  3. Disney Live Action (Ex. Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean, live action remakes, Old Yeller, Parent Trap, 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea, ect.)
  4. Disney Acquired Live Action IP (Ex. Star Wars, Avengers, Aliens, the Muppets, Indiana Jones, ect.)
Today's SAFD is what are your top 3 movies in categories 1 & 2 in order? We'll do categories 3 & 4 next weekend. Please don't add extras to or have ties in your list. I have to score all the answers out to ensure we get the best match ups possible and that makes it much harder to do. Let the games begin!

SAFD:
This is a tough question, and I don't think it'll get much easier when we hit the knock out rounds. There are just so many great options! Without further ado, I'm going to go with:

Disney Animation
  1. Moana
  2. Beauty and the Beast
  3. Little Mermaid

Pixar Animation
  1. Finding Nemo
  2. Brave
  3. Monsters, Inc

SAFD:

I forgot we had to order them - this is going to make it tougher.

Disney Animation:

I thought this would be harder for me because I love so many Disney animated films. How to pick? (So tempted to include Aristocats which was my favorite as a kid). But as soon as you posted the final categories last night I had my 3 movies - just not in order. The top 2 had to be Alan Menken/ Howard Ashman collaborations. I absolute adore everything they did with Disney and previously . They are responsible for the resurgence in Disney animation in the 90s and I think they are the gold standard. The world became a lot poorer when Howard Ashman passed away at such a young age. What he could have given us had he lived another 20 or 30 years. My third pick may be a bit of recency bias or a need to make sure I have something by Lin-Manuel Miranda in my picks. (Also I promise this will be the only long justification for my picks!!)

1 - Beauty & The Beast
2- The Little Mermaid
3 - Encanto

Pixar
1 - Inside Out
2 - Toy Story
3 - Coco

SAFD: I love this idea. Ranking things is one of my favorite nerdy pastimes. A few years back, we did a March Madness for rides and a few people got real cranky, ha ha.

@camaker who won the previous ride and restaurant tournaments you mentioned?

Disney Animation:
1. Lion King
2. Princess and the Frog
3. Aladdin

Pixar
1. The Incredibles
2. Monsters, Inc.
3. Up (honestly, for the opening "married life" sequence - some of the most beautiful music and storytelling ever, imo)

Have a great week, everyone!

Disney:
1. Pinocchio
2. Peter Pan
3. Robin Hood

1 and 2 were easy choices, but three is a toss-up between about 15 others.

Pixar:
1. Coco
2. WALL-E
3. Cars 3

Other than Toy Story and Toy Story 4, I think these are the only Pixar movies I’ve ever seen, so it made this an easy list. I honestly don’t know if I’ve actually seen all of WALL-E. Cars 3 was a favorite of my kids when they were younger.
