Hi. I feel pretty silly lamenting about this, with the more serious problems we all face, but I figured you might be wondering where I've been all day, so here goes:

We lost one of our cats today. We noticed Mickey was acting a bit odd on Saturday, but it was easy to assume he was at odds with Lucy, the other cat. (Lucy is the alpha cat and she typically puts him in his place.) Yesterday, we noticed he was walking funny, so I made him a vet appointment today for when Kevin got home from work, so someone could stay home with Alyssa. Well, when Alyssa and I got back from getting her pictures taken this morning, Mickey couldn't even walk, so I begged Kevin to come home early and I rushed him to the vet. He had a bladder infection and though he survived the process of unblocking him, his heart gave out after the procedure. I feel terrible. He was only seven. And Alyssa keeps asking where he is. :guilty:

I'm going to turn the computer over to Kevin, because I asked him to design our Easter card, but I'll try to check back in later tonight and respond personally to some posts from the last 36 hours...

Amy

I'm so sorry! It's so hard to lose a loved pet! :grouphug: to all of you! I don't have any words of advice as we haven't dealt with this, yet, but I'm guessing that we will soon as our poodle is getting very old. I know it will devastate our kids, particularly Katie, so let me know how you explain it to Alyssa.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this!

Since everyone is talking about things from their childhood I thought I'd share some stories before I head off to work.

My godmother used to make cakes for a living. Up until my 10th birthday, she would make my birthday cakes. My 5th birthday I got a cake shaped like Kermit the Frog, with a stuffed Kermit the Frog. I still have Kermit. He's the uglest thing in the world, but he's brings back so many memories. Isn't it odd how one thing can do that??

My nephew was a blanket carrier as a child. He loved the edging on the blanket more than anything (you know, that satiny edging?) I'll have to post a pic of him with his blanket. He turns 19 this year, and we always tease him about this blanket. So what does he do? He pulls out his wallet, and lo and behold, there is a piece of "blanky" there. :rotfl: He's just too cute.

My boyfriend Bob's childhood stuffed animal was Paddington Bear. He still sits on our couch, no matter where I try to hid him, he's there the next day. When he was 4, he made an ornament of Paddington's head for the Christmas tree. (It's too cute seeing "Bobby" on the back of the ornament in BIG letters!) Paddington's head gets a "special box" when the Christmas tree ornaments comes down, and if it's not the first ornament on the tree he freaks out because "Paddington might be lost forever!" (Unknown to him, I always put it in the box first, so he helps me put up the ornaments. He has a habit of stopping once he reaches Paddington. :rotfl: )

Does anyone remember Romper room?? I used to get SO MAD when they wouldnt' say my name at the end of the show...
What nice memories you all have.

Yes, I remember Romper Room. I even had the Romper Stompers.

Nostalgia....gotta love it.

In my sleepiness last night, I forgot to email myself my itinerary so I can't go my TGM comparison yet. :( I guess I'll have to wait until this afternoon to see how I panned out.
I will be planning out my itinerary today now that his best days are out for October. :teeth:

Thank you so much for all your kind words. I get all teary-eyed every time I look at one of Mickey's favorite lounging spots and trying to fall asleep was tough, because he always slept on my legs. He was such a sweet kitty. Kevin and I rescued him from the Target parking lot in August 1999 when we were returning a broken item from our wedding registry. He was the smallest, dirtiest orange and white hairball, but he was our first "baby."

Here's a picture of me, Alyssa, and Mickey, taken a couple days after we brought Alyssa home from the hospital. You can see, Mickey was no longer small!

Thanks again for your condolences. I'm taking Alyssa to an activity at our community center, but I'll be back at naptime to finally respond to everyone else (I even took notes! :) )

Amy :)
Aw...he looks like such a good kitty.

Also, let me just say that you look so skinny, just a few days after delivery. I should hate you for that. ;)

My sister was even on Romper Room.
I loved Captian Kangaroo.
The 1st 1 of course.
Speaking of kids tv shows, how about The Electric Company. I so wish they had something like that on tv now for kids, instead of just cartoons. It would really help Nicholas with his phonics.

All together now.....
CH - IN CHIN
CH - AIR CHAIR
CH - IP CHIP

etc, etc......

I was just thinking about The Electric Company the other day. Our Boders has an Electric Company DVD on display in a kid area they have set up to entice you upstairs.

Ok, now I'm beginning to think I've went 'round the bend (as one of my elder relatives used to say) but I'm going to tell you my idea anyway. One of you, don't remember who, commented that it would be cool to have a DDA Pal Mickey similar to Flat Stanley. It got me thinking. I am probably not going to get a chance to meet most of my DDA friends in person, so I was thinking about having Mickey travel around and meet you instead. You'd be responsible to take pictures, sign his passport, get him a souvenir and ship him on to the next person. I'd provide the money for the souvenirs, pictures (unless you have digital) and shipping. He is going on the DDA trip, Japan at the end of June and WDW with me in December.

If I can't meet you all, at least something that belongs to me can share in your lives for a little while. I'd add to his website with where he's been and post pictures.

Is this totally nuts?

I think that's a totally cool idea! I'm sitting here, thinking about what I could do for Pal Mickey! I would definitely participate!!!!!

I hadn't planned on any fancy stuff. Shorts and maybe a pair of capris or two, in case it is cool in the eves, or for Jellyrolls. Or maybe a skort for there or something, but nothing dressy. I'm sure I will just have one suitcase and what I call my bathroom bag (makeup, hairdryer, etc...you know, bathroom stuff.)

Problem is I have so many ideas. So I never know what to do.

That is what is wrong with my life right now. I could probably be a teacher if I wanted too I took classes to do so, etc. I don't like the politics and all the teaching to the tests going on in schools. I would love to do something with kids, that will help them out because there are so many kids out there who don't get to do alot of things but also don't have the things they need.

I have considered a center for homeschool kids, that would have all types of activities, programs, trips, teach classes in various subjects. Open a kids craft center or kids cooking school. Have a camp for all types of kids, where regular kids, kids with disabilities, medical problems, foster kids, kids from all economic backgrounds could experience camp together. An afterschool program for elementary, middle and high schoolers to keep them from being latchkey and out of trouble.

Getting a big location and creating a giant center for kids parties. A mobile craft bus, or mobile science bus or computer bus. Create an organization to help out teachers and kids to get the school supplies and things they need.

I am also considering going back to school and getting a Master's Degree in Nonprofit Management. Or a certificate for computer networking.

I could go on and on. I have so many ideas of things I would like to start and create and don't know what direction to go in. Or I just need an organization to hire me to do something with kids. I just know I want to help others, especially kids.

Becky

You definitely have some wonderful ideas! I, for one, would appreciate places like you have described for after school activities. Here in our area, we are really limited in what our kids can do, since we have to drive them at least 30 minutes to get to the nearest "big" city where there are places like this. It would be amazing to have one in our little community.

Are you kidding me!
Dance around the house in your birthday suite spraying silly string all over the place. However I would pick a different color than blue. You have had enough blue in your house.:lmao:

Alyssa had her two year doctor's visit today...our baby is 33 inches tall and 25 pounds. I can't believe she's getting so big!

We always get a picture of her sitting in Minnie's chair when we're in Toontown (I know Kate does this too! :goodvibes ).
