strange the differing philosophies with shelters....I think a couple of them declaw all the cats as they come in...one time I was looking online at some of the available cats..and all of them where declawed. I find it hard to believe that all the owners did it.

Bill has asked me, "Kristine, when Smokey moves on to the heavenly father...can we NOT get another cat" :rotfl2: I think he has a fantasy of unscratched furniture

I think MIL might have been a bit of a hoarder herself. When she died she had 10 or 12 cats. DH and I had to load them all up and take them to a shelter. It was horrible. We both cried the whole time. But we already had 2 cats at home so we couldn't keep any of them. DH will insist on having cats forever and ever, so I just better plan on never having good furniture.

Declawed cats around here are considered "hard to place". Around the holidays the shelters will run newspaper ads for "special" animals and the declawed cats get lumped in with the animals with health issues or missing limbs or whatever. It's very strange. I fail to see how a declawed cat is harder to place than a 3 legged dog.:confused3

No kidding?? I find that just fascinating...

cross your fingers...I am off to get my hair cut & dyed by a new person...hopefully I don't :scared1::scared1::scared1:

When we were looking for Aurora we wanted a declawed cat and couldn't find any! The shelter where we got her was no-kill and they had almost 200 cats. Only 2 or 3 were declawed and none of them had good personalities. The vet said one of the ladies at the shelter was a hoarder and didn't want any of the cats to be adopted. That shelter is closed now.

When we were looking for Arabella we found a beautiful 3 year old cat who was already spayed and declawed but she had already been returned once. We were worried that she wouldn't get along with Aurora so we decided to go with a kitten.

When we went looking we knew we weren't going to declaw (I don't think I know any vet that does back claws....if they don't have back claws they've lost all their defense mechanisms) we lucked out with Pearl.

She has her front claws but only claws at her scratch post and occassionaly one chair.

Though she did try last night to get up on the mantle to look at my creches. :scared1:

We are thinking of getting her a companion because she seems so lost..but we really did luck out with such a loving well behaved (albeit stinky) older cat. I would hate to bring in a terror and "Pretty Princess " as Cassidy calls her being upset.

When we got Alexandria and Amanda back in 1991 we got them at the same time, so they always shared a litter box. After we had Alley put down we got Aurora as a kitten, and she learned to share litter with Amanda. Then we brought Arabella in as a kitten and she learned to share litter with Aurora. My concern with getting another adult cat would be that somebody would decide not to use the box. I asked the vet and the shelter staff what age/gender cat we should be looking for and they said a female kitten so Aurora wouldn't be as likely to fight with her. Arabella is a pest, but Aurora was a pest when she was younger. Hopefully Arabella will outgrow being so obnoxious.

Kristine - Good luck at the salon!
I have an appointment sometime before we leave. I guess I should look and see what day it is so I don't miss it! I am pretty sure it is Dec. 6.

I got it in WDW a few years ago. I just found it in amongst the Christmas stuff, so we are going to do it this year.

We have a Disney one too. I haven't got it out yet.

Our cats don't seem to care much about our tree either. Occasionally, they will bat an ornament off the bottom branches.

Riley loves to lay under our tree. He doesn't climb it or chew on it. The kids did put a lot of the ornaments with bells around the bottom and he will bat at them from time to time, but he is 15 years old and really is a well behaved cat. We had him declawed at about 6 months and he has never clawed or chewed anything. I guess we were just lucky.

I leave next Friday very early (12/7), staying at SSR :cloud9: It's going to be such a whirlwind trip!
I didn't even realize we were going to be there at the same time. Maybe we will bump into each other again.

We just called Universal and switched our reservation from Oct to Nov 2008. We will be at the Royal Pacific club level from Nov 25 - 30th. That should give us time to hit MVMCP and see the castle lit up. We won't hit the Osbourne Lights, but at least we will get there. We can also tour the resorts and hit Downtown Disney :thumbsup2 Hopefully we can meet up with some DDA pals for a meal or two :thumbsup2 Since we will have front of the line privileges we should be able to complete the US parks easily while there and still have some Disney time :rolleyes1

tom thanks for the picture. i like it.

everyone headed to dw have fun.

i went to teh doctor amd yes i do have hives. the p.a. we saw acted like i was dumb and i didnt know what i was talking about. so finally they gave me my steroid shot.

deb and chris thanks for the card. ya'll are sweet. i need a ton of snow globes to smash right now lol

please send me some calm vibes i am scared about surgery and its starting to get to me now since it was postponed.:scared1:

Heidi - I have your magnets. They are cute! My "cinnamon" scented hot pad is absolute crap. I am furious that I paid $5 for it. It looks like something you could get at the Dollar Store, and it does NOT smell like cinnamon. Oh, well. I guess the school gets some of the money. I'll PM you a total tomorrow after I know what the postage is.:)

Anne Marie - You would be crazy to SWITCH to Thanksgiving. You should ADD a trip at Thanksgiving.;)
Your picture frame sounds adorable! I might have to go check those out!

I would love to ADD it but I am lucky that Dana ok'd August as it is.
The April cruise is so expensive!!!

Maybe we can go Thanksgiving 2009 & that will be our big trip for that year.
We have been at Christmas time before with the kids & I swore I wouldn't go in December ever again because I was too cold.
The best weather we ever had was early November. Just perfect, but I can't take the kids out for a week from school anymore.

Last night Emma and I ran around getting stuff for her birthday party. Years ago I had everything bought by August and a good idea about what games we were playing and such. 3 days before and I have barely a clue! We did manage to get cake plates, a table cloth and favors. She is having a High School musical theme so we found these microphones at the Dollar Tree. I can't believe they actually work- they are echo microphones. We also got a HSM cup and a sheet of stickers for each of the guests.

Now I have to work on her cake. I am trying to convince her of cupcakes- much easier. She is insistent upon a cake!
Not sure who is going to win this battle:confused3

Can you make cupcakes, but put them together as a "cake". I got a cupcake cake at Walmart last year for Stephanie's birthday.
