Last night Emma and I ran around getting stuff for her birthday party. Years ago I had everything bought by August and a good idea about what games we were playing and such. 3 days before and I have barely a clue! We did manage to get cake plates, a table cloth and favors. She is having a High School musical theme so we found these microphones at the Dollar Tree. I can't believe they actually work- they are echo microphones. We also got a HSM cup and a sheet of stickers for each of the guests.

Now I have to work on her cake. I am trying to convince her of cupcakes- much easier. She is insistent upon a cake!
Not sure who is going to win this battle:confused3

pixiedust: Good luck! Happy Birthday to Emma!

So does anyone have an advent calendar? I don't have one but saw a cute idea on the budget board. About activities to do.

Is there a link to this? My family has several advent traditions, but mostly things that were purchased (books, calendars, etc) that I can't find anymore. I've been looking for something for weeks!

Lunch at CP is pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary. But I love going for the characters ::yes::

Hope ds scratch is not to bad & heals without a scar :wizard: Mia as well as our other cats have been declawed. Mia did not scratch us but I now need new curtains in the livingroom

Heidi - I will let you know what we think of the Crystal Palace lunch! I am sure it will be good.:) DS said the band teacher told them their items should arrive today, so HOPEFULLY I will have your magnets this afternoon.

DS is REALLY upset about the scratch on his face. It is at least 3 inches long and goes from his eye to his mouth. It looks pretty bad.:guilty: I am going to Target today so I will get some Neosporin to put on it. If it looks like it will scar I will buy some Mederma. I still have a mark on my leg where Arabella scratched me MONTHS ago, but she was jumping on my lap and slid off so my scratch might be deeper than DS's. DH was in bed when it happened, so I called him and told him he needs to be NICE to DS and not imply that it was his fault. I don't know what happened, but if it WAS DS's fault he feels bad enough already.:sad2:

Stephanie,
Very well said. My uncle who raised me as his own & who was very dear to my heart died 5 weeks after Katie was born. It will be 12 years that he is gone this January. I was so happy to have a grandbaby for him but he never came out of his coma to see her alive. To this day when I think about him I start to tear up. I miss him every day. He did so much for me when I was a kid & I don't know where I would have ended up if it wasn't for him. He has my eternal gratitude, respect, & love. I just wish my kids got to meet him.

Beth --- on ebay, to the right of the search bar (once you are signed in), click on a link that says "advanced search". On that screen, about halfway down, you can include items by seller: ____butterflykissed_____

Hope that helps!

Well, my 45 minutes is up. I need to run out and pick up dd.

Have a good however-long-it-is-until-I'm-back, DDA!

Thanks, Jennifer! I've never actually signed in. I'll try that when I get back on the computer.

:rotfl:

my kids all wanted a chocolate advent calendar this year...hopefully I can restrain Bill :rotfl2:

1 year, Christopher opened ALL of the doors right away...apparently the suspense was killing him:)

when I was younger...I had no clue about how they did this...I remember feeling appalled when I found out. I always had cats that were 4 paw declawed...this one has the front declawed...I have always regretted not doing all 4. He has ruined countless pieces of expensive furniture. I got so mad I thought about doing it now....you are right, they consider it very bad to do on an older cat...oh well...

Part of the problem is that some of the rescues will not allow you to adopt if you admit that you plan to declaw, so I really wanted to try NOT to declaw her. We have only had our cats declawed in the front, and I have some wicked scratches on my dining table from their back feet sliding across. I think a lot of the snagging is from their back feet, too. Our bed is pretty high so they don't always make it to the top in one leap, which means they dig their claws in and boost themselves the rest of the way up.
I don't think our vet will do all 4 feet - I am pretty sure he will just do the front.

When I am really missing my maternal grandparents, I will go out and buy a good loaf of rye bread. I toast it and butter it. That always transports me back to their warm and cozy kitchen.

I can remember the way my Grandma's kitchen smelled.:goodvibes I guess it was just a mix of cooking smells - not one food in particular. It has been at least 25 years since she lived in her own house, and she passed away about 15 years ago. But I can remember the smell just as clear as if I was sitting in her kitchen right now. I can remember a lot of things about her house, which is funny because I don't think I spent THAT much time there.

I leave next Friday very early (12/7), staying at SSR :cloud9: It's going to be such a whirlwind trip!

I hope you are feeling well enough to really enjoy your trip, Jennifer!!

Our cat used to climb up and sleep amongst the branches, I am so glad I don't have to deal with that any longer! Blackie and Brandi could care less. Now Hayden is another story:scared1: I'm sure I'll regret putting it up.

Good luck with your tree! If I thought Arabella would just sleep in the tree I would put it up, but I am sure sleeping would in no way figure into her plan!

Hope you all have a wonderful time Amy! I can't wait to hear about Matthew's 1st trip & see pictures :goodvibes

I didn't realize it was Matthew's first trip! How exciting!

Glad you stopped in, Beth!:)

Our vet only does the front claws. I do feel bad having it done, but I would not be able to deal with claw marks & scratches everywhere.

Anne Marie I say book that Thanksgiving trip :teeth:

Robyn good luck with Emma's birthday party!

Hi Beth :wave2:

I didn't realize it was Matthew's first trip! How exciting!

:rolleyes1 It isn't (sorry Janet!) :rotfl:

I'm sure it will be very different though, since kids change so much in the first couple of years! The last trip (his first) was in February, so he was about 7 months old -- now he's walking, even more interactive, etc. And, according to Alyssa, he "Likes Mickey" :) Helpful, no?

Mostly, I'm sure this misunderstanding is Amy's fault. If she'd post more, there might not have been any confusion. :teeth:

That was me, I thought it was his 1st :)

Blaming Amy sounds good :rotfl:

an old colleague of mine does volunteer work at a shelter....she was saying that many cats get left there due to claws...ruining of furniture, scratched kids etc...and although it is somewhat cruel to declaw, they still recommend it fr these reasons...

I really wish that we had declawed our cats, too. I also read all of the literature about how horrible it was, but all of the woodwork in our basement is ruined. They have gone almost completely through the moldings around the doors. Our last sofa was shredded on one corner, though they haven't touched the new one yet. Since our cats are 9.5 years old, they are way too old to be declawed now.

When we were looking for Aurora we wanted a declawed cat and couldn't find any! The shelter where we got her was no-kill and they had almost 200 cats. Only 2 or 3 were declawed and none of them had good personalities. The vet said one of the ladies at the shelter was a hoarder and didn't want any of the cats to be adopted. That shelter is closed now.

When we were looking for Arabella we found a beautiful 3 year old cat who was already spayed and declawed but she had already been returned once. We were worried that she wouldn't get along with Aurora so we decided to go with a kitten.

strange the differing philosophies with shelters....I think a couple of them declaw all the cats as they come in...one time I was looking online at some of the available cats..and all of them where declawed. I find it hard to believe that all the owners did it.

Bill has asked me, "Kristine, when Smokey moves on to the heavenly father...can we NOT get another cat" :rotfl2: I think he has a fantasy of unscratched furniture
