The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 31

Good morning everyone! I hope that everyone is doing well today. Not much on the schedule for today though I am dying for a nice warm shower. I think that's going to be first on the list today.

I think that some of you at least read the Make-A-Wish trip report by Wendygrace. If you all could keep her son Michael in your prayers this week, I know that she would appreciate it. If all goes as planned, he will be undergoing surgery here in St. Louis tomorrow. My understanding is that this and the follow up surgery could be real miracles for him.

Have a good day everyone!

Attention Dallas-area DDA (and anyone else interested in traveling):
I just signed up to get an e-mail notice when King Tut tickets go on sale. The exhibit opens here Oct. 2008. You can print a certificate that guarantees you will be able to purchase up to 8 adult and 8 child tickets. Since I don't know if DS is an adult or a child by their rules I put 3A/1C. I have no clue what to expect in terms of ticket prices, but at least I am guaranteed to have tickets available.

Thanks Elizabeth! I was thrilled to see that Dallas had won the exhibit. Please remind your DH that if DS takes his lunchbox everywhere with him there will be a lot more problems from kids making fun of him and the lunchbox will be the least of those problems. Kids are really so mean!

im here. just busy. as soon as i catch up yall post 50 more pages. it is fair! i was busy last week trying to get a job but no luck yet. i applied at the disney store and did 1 round of interviews and am waiting to see if they call back for another. also applied at buildabear. halloween was fun went with my day attendant and her family. i am having trouble with my night attendant that i had to "write" her up and talk to her. i am firing her sunday. i got to the doctors for an ultrasound tomorrow then i will find out when surgery will be. i need pixie dust for calmness for me i always freak out about surgery and being put to sleep. other than that i am fine with it and i am great

Karen -- PD and prayers to you. :wizard:

Thanks for the info, Paula. How are those beautiful girls of yours?

PD and Prayers to Michael!

Deb -- WTG Nick! Great news on the conference!

Heather -- Congratulations on your good news! :)

Andrew's team won their game last night and he played a great game! :goodvibes They will get to go to the Tournament of Champions December 1st and 2nd. His birthday is on the 2nd, so I had planned his birthday party for the next weekend in the hopes they would be playing on his birthday. It's so hard to get reservations for weekends in December with all of the holiday parties. Of course, it didn't help that he changed his mind on the type of party he wanted to do so I was behind in planning...

Have a good day DDA!

Good Morning DDA!!! It has finally stopped raining, but it looks COLD out. I have a dentist appointment at Noon then work at 4. I really need to pay some bills at some point, maybe that will be my next chore. I don't know why am and dreading it so much. Oh well, it's got to get done. After tonight I have 2 nights off in a row so that will be nice.

Thank you all for the congrats. and the blue wishes. I actually had a dream last night, that ::fast forward:: I had to send Butch out to buy a blue outfit because we got a surprise... in this dream we were all set to bring home a girl. ( jennifer this is what i mean by vivd dreams lol ) So we had her little pink outfit all set. the day the baby was born, boy( pun intended) did we get a surprise lol

Tammi, So glad that Nicolas and Alyssa's conferences went so well. That's great news that Nicolas' teacher is giving him a chance with the FOCUS teacher. Yes more work for you, but what an accomlpishment for him. I hope He does great with it all.

Tia, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. I hope you continue to get better. And Good luck with the play group. Sounds like you all are going to have a great time.

Glynis, Happy Birthday to Jacob and Congrats to him on his Baptism. I hope everything goes Great for you this weekend. I always LOVE a house full of people :rolleyes1
Babies at 41 are possible.. look at Jane Seymore, she was 45 when she had her twins. :goodvibes

Bernadette, Your idea's are great. I love the soduku idea using Joseph's name. And the hat you made him, looks great! I hope you're feeling better today. Go away sickies, Disney will have none of you!

Jennifer, I hope the hormones start to balance out a bit better for you.
I just have to say , I'm still so excited for you and Kyle. What a wonderful miracle. Don't be surprised if you start having some off the wall, vivd dreams also .. My most memorable and vivid dreams have come to me when i've been pregnant.

Anne Marie, I'm glad you enjoyed you Anniversary this weekend. I hope you weren't too mad with the cleaning yesterday.

Deb, That's awesome about Nick's teacher conference. it's funny you said that about Nick being quiet with you and Chris for parents. My cousin swears her daughter was switched at birth, her and her husband are roller coaster junkies. Their DD 8 will not even get on goofy's brainstormer. I say give them time. They'll learn to love it all. Yay for just having an off day, keep that water flowing even if you have to add a little flavor to it.

Elizabeth, I'm so sorry DS is having such a hard time with all of this. Middle school's been hard enough on him so far and now he's gotta deal with a bullie and his lunch box. I hope DH can calm down about it a bit and realize it's not DS's fault. Sorry Princess wasn't feeling well yesterday but yay for no swimming. I hope she's feeling better today.

Jennifer, I hope your headache is long gone by now. How are you and the girl's making out? I'm sure Olivia's being a gret big sister and giving you a hand even when you don't need one.

Marci, WOOHOO For Andrew and his team. What a great way to semi end a season. I bet he'll have a blast with the tournament of champions. just sorry that means more running back and forth for practice.

Karen, Glad to see you. I hope your upcoming surgery isn't anything serious.. And may peace surround you and calm your thoughts and fears.

ok i think i'm all caught up now. Have a great day DDA!!

I had vivid (and often downright freaky!) dreams the first 2 weeks I was on the progesterone, so maybe I did my time? Lol... I doubt it. I don't sleep for enough hours in a row right now to have any dreams, so at this point I'd take them!

(And sorry to all of you that disagree with this, maybe Amy :rolleyes1 , other teachers, etc.... I did extremely well in school and never got out of any assignments, etc - and believe me, our teachers were ruthless with the load! (I learned this well in college when I was prepared but still ticked comparing previous lives with college buddies ;) ... and I continue to learn this now when I hear about current HS assignments, etc)

I still appreciated the teachers and had a great relationship with them... and I look back and don't plan on raising my kids any other way! If they can get an excellent education and still spend special times with family then I'm all for it )

As a former teacher, I see nothing wrong with this! I personally believe that time with your family is more important than anything you learn in school!

I think that this whole attendance thing has gotten out of hand, due to the No child left behind travesty!!!! But don't get me started on that! Luckily, our school (principal, teachers, etc.) are all very pro-family, so we haven't had a hard time with getting the kids excused for Disney and other family things. Hopefully, it will stay that way! They are MY kids and I will do what is best for them!

Sorry your still having trouble with your attendant. :wizard: headed your way for your surgery.

I got a postcard from ohio today--thank you! ill be taking it into work tomrorow

I completely forgot! Just put it on my shopping list.

all caught up!

just got home--wnet to see grandpa--hes pretty weak tonight but had lots of tests done today sohe is exhausted. WE hopefully find out the test results thursday

:wizard: and 's

Want to hear more about that sense of humor? A neighbor of mine was told she'd never have a baby of her own, so she and her husband adopted a set of identical twins. On the day the adoption was finalized, she found out that she was pregnant! So exciting, right? They had their ultrasound, and found that they were expecting quadruplets!!! Now, that's a sense of humor!!!

I agree with Jennifer, :faint:

Not a fun feeling, is it? I have no idea when we are going back either. :sad2:

ELIZABETH!

Good DING fare just came out for Dallas to MCO:

Dallas (Love Field) to Orlando for $55-$59 One-Way!

- Fare is valid for travel Monday-Thursday and Saturday, December 1 through December 18, 2007 only

Wanted to make sure you saw this!!

(Marci, I think you're going later in December....but this gives us all hope for cheaper fares in the future!!!!)

Lindsay - Welcome to my world where the codes are always better AFTER you order. I didn't buy anything from them today.

I know what you mean! ;) I still saved 10% on top of everything else with the DVC discount, so another 10%, while it would have been nice, isn't something to lose sleep over. I really didn't order that much - a l/s Tink shirt for me, a MM Clubhouse toy for my nephew's b-day present, and the l/s holiday plaid shirts for my dad and Jonathan (the guys are going to wear these to the MVMCP, while the ladies/girls all wear t-shirts). I just bought several different sizes in all the shirts so I could get the free shipping and we would be sure to get the right fits. ;) I'm so glad the DS is doing Disneyshopping returns again!

Nick's teacher conference was great. He is doing really well and the things that were of "concern" to him were easily expained by his personality. After our discussion they were planning to talk to him directly. He is a very quiet boy (How can that be with us for parents?) and doesn't offer much unless he is asked directly. He always has the answers or insight when asked. They want to come up with a plan to get him to feel comfortable participating more. Both teachers think he has amazing writing skills and want to explore that more. Report cards weren't done yet, but I don't think there will be any big surprises :thumbsup2

WTG, Nick! I've seen more than one kid be polar-opposites from their parents. (I can think of one in my own family... )

DH is furious at DS because someone got DS's lunchbox today and kicked it, which broke open the container of applesauce he didn't eat. DS has a loonnnng history of very bad luck with lunchboxes and DH needs to shut his half-wit piehole.  In elementary school kids would take his lunchbox to torment him. It got thrown in the trash, it got thrown in a mud puddle, and each time he had to go fish it out. Each time DH would yell and scream at him when he got home. SO DS started to carry his lunchbox around at recess because he was terrified of getting in trouble. Stupid DH. One day the teacher got on to him for carrying it around. She told him to put it down and go play. Well, do you obey the teacher and risk getting screamed at by your father? I ended up having to conference with the teacher over it because DS completely FREAKED OUT. So today DS was playing with his friend after lunch and someone kicked his lunchbox. DH apparently wants him to NEVER leave his lunchbox unattended. It isn't luggage at the airport, for crying out loud! Leave him alone! DH needs to get a freaking life. I am SOOOOO angry that DH thinks this is DS's fault. Only DH would BLAME DS for what amounts to being bullied. :sad2: If I need to buy a new lunchbox for DS I will - I don't blame him for leaving his lunchbox "unattended" while he went to play.

I also had to call the attendance office yet again because they told DS they didn't have the fax from the Dr. They had it yesterday! Where did it go? They still have it. I swear the attendance office is a creation of the devil. The lady told me every absence is entered as "unexcused" and then they change the status to "excused" AFTER they have written PROOF. Guilty until proven innocent. And this is the procedure that will be in place until he graduates from high school. Great.:scared1:

Poor DS! Kids can be so mean. He'll be a lot worse off, though, if he becomes known as the "kid who guards his lunch box with his life." I hope things have calmed down, and that DH realizes that it's not DS' fault, and he's not improving the situation by getting mad at him.

You should come to MA. You would have the BEST time here if you like cleaning other people's houses.:lmao:

I was thinking the same thing! :rotfl: :rotfl: Glynis and Theresa - do I have a job for you! Once you're done in MA, don't you want to see sunny Texas? It will be 80 degrees again this weekend! ;)

So I thought I had everything that I needed to mail out my ornaments. I went to Target today and picked up mailing envelops and boxes. Then I got home and realized I need one more thing. So they are going to have to wait another day or so. Sorry!

I mailed mine yesterday! :yay:

Well today Lucy has managed to sleep most of the day away. She hasn't had one screaming fit so that's good. So who knows. Hopefully tomorrow she will be back to her normal happy self.

I managed to finally find a girl scout troop for Emma. She has been wanting to join since the beginning of the school year but I was getting no response from our local council. Finally after talking with Mo's assistant teacher who has a daughter in Emma's glass gave me info on the troop. And come to find out the troop leader is a mom from one of the girl's on Emma's soccer team. But the mom is never at the practices so I have never spoken to her for more than a few minutes on game days. Small world!

I'm glad Lucy is doing better, Robyn. Yay for a Girl Scout troop for Emma!

Good thing it will be our last day!!! :rotfl:

After this I have no idea when we will be going again. No plans. Nothing in the works.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have a feeling you'll have an idea of when you're going next before you even get home from this trip. Can't be ticker-less! ;)

Attention Dallas-area DDA (and anyone else interested in traveling):
I just signed up to get an e-mail notice when King Tut tickets go on sale. The exhibit opens here Oct. 2008. Thanks for the head's up, Elizabeth! That would be a really cool exhibit to see. I was fascinated with Egypt when I was in elementary school.

I am very, very afraid of August. High heat and humidity. Unfortunately though, I think this might be the last year for awhile that I am able to take Nicholas out of school. Next year is an SOL year. :guilty: I do want to be able to take a nice, LONG vacation like you, Deb and Anne Marie. I think it was Anne Marie who said she wants to forget her address and phone number. I like that philosophy. :thumbsup2

:lmao: :lmao:

That is a great plan! I would settle for forgetting my security code to get into my office. I think that's only happened once in the past, and it was more due to my being exhausted, rather than well-rested and revived after a vacation!

Is she going to speak? I think she should just "jingle" and the handler should interpret.:rotfl:

:thumbsup2

I really don't want her to speak. :sad2: I also have a bit of an aversion to the new Fairies stuff. Tink doesn't look the same - she should maintain the features and personality she had from the Peter Pan movie. Anything else is just wrong!

That being said, the CM playing Tink in the P&PP parade we went to (and most other pics I saw of other parades) has always played Alice - I've had a lot of interactions with her as such. I guess if she did talk, I imagine this CM will do a good job with it (if she still has that role).

im here. just busy. as soon as i catch up yall post 50 more pages. it is fair! i was busy last week trying to get a job but no luck yet. i applied at the disney store and did 1 round of interviews and am waiting to see if they call back for another. also applied at buildabear. halloween was fun went with my day attendant and her family. i am having trouble with my night attendant that i had to "write" her up and talk to her. i am firing her sunday. i got to the doctors for an ultrasound tomorrow then i will find out when surgery will be. i need pixie dust for calmness for me i always freak out about surgery and being put to sleep. other than that i am fine with it and i am great

Karen - good luck with the job search, and lots of :wizard: :wizard: for the surgery. I hope it's not anything serious. Sorry you're having attendant problems again. :guilty:

Hope it goes away Jennifer. How's Virginia doing?

nope still have it. Virginia decided to wake up at 1 and not really go back to sleep till 430. we saw the dr on monday. she weighed 6lb 12oz so not back to birth weight yet. we go back in 2 weeks for another weight check.

She is just precious, Robyn. Could this be described as an impish grin? ;)

I'm sorry to hear this, Jennifer. I've had a headache, too, for about a day - but I don't have an infant and a young child to worry about! I hope you get some relief soon.! :wizard:

I hope everyone is having good days. I feel like a zombie (this getting 4-5 hours of sleep each night is getting old), but I completed half of one of my big projects for our trip last night. I made my nieces' autograph books! (I still have to personalize/print the cards, but the actual book was what I was dreading doing the most.) I am not at all crafty (I have the ideas in my head, but my hands usually can never cooperate), so I was scared to death to do these. This is when I wish my mom lived close by, as she's terrific at that stuff. However, I don't think they came out too bad. If I can remember, I'll try to post pics of them tonight. One of tonight's tasks will hopefully be to print out all the cards - once that's done, I think I will feel like a huge weight has lifted on that front. :thumbsup2

Chat with ya later!

SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

As a former teacher, I see nothing wrong with this! I personally believe that time with your family is more important than anything you learn in school!

I think that this whole attendance thing has gotten out of hand, due to the No child left behind travesty!!!! But don't get me started on that! Hopefully, it will stay that way! They are MY kids and I will do what is best for them!

This is so well said in response to Jennifer, that I am quoting you, Glynis.

Attendance requirements have become so dictatorial that they are now absurd. Instead of attempting to force families to have their children there all 180 days the school systems need to do something more encouraging like teach those same children. Teaching to state-mandated tests does not make for a well-educated person. It only makes for someone who hates school and has no cognitive assessment abilities!

Off one of my current soapboxes.... :goodvibes I return you to your regularly scheduled DDA forum.

Good afternoon, DDA! :sunny:

Loved Lucy's new pictures, Robyn!

Lindsay - I am glad you got a huge project out of the way. I can't wait to see pictures!

Those are awesome fares! But I am at work and I don't have DING!:sad2: Anybody want to look at my flights and let me know if it is worth the drive back home to change the tickets?

 those are very cute

Robyn, just looking at Lucy's little face makes me smile.:goodvibes She is so sweet!

Princess went to school today - she seems to feel fine. I bought her one of those new PediaCare plug-in vapor things (like an air freshener but with vapors like Vicks to help with congestion). Dadboss said it was amazing - she slept great last night.

I met DH for breakfast. Today is our 15th anniversary.:)

I mailed DS's exchange ornament today. Postage rates are insane! I practically could have driven it up there myself for what they charge! (OK, not quite, but close.) And the lines are so long that you almost don't care how much postage is as long as you can LEAVE after you pay it!:rotfl2:

I also finally mailed my life insurance forms. I got an e-mail that they have made a decision on DH but we haven't gotten that back yet. How lame is that? They e-mail you that they have made a decision and then the actual decision comes snail mail. Now we get to wait for them to get my forms, review them, and decide if they will cover me. Being a grown up is boring.:coffee:
