My weekend was great, but busy.
Friday I ripped wall paper down, and scrubbed the adhesive down and spackled the walls in my Grandparents bedroom. My Aunt and I showed up at 8am and surprised them, they're like when is this happening and we were like right now. Originally they were supposed to go away for the weekend but the ended up not going because my Great aunt fell and hurt her back and they then couldn't go to her cabin.
After starting that project I ran home, showered, packed and headed off to the church to leave for the camping trip. Oh, yeah did I mention it rained all day and night. We packed the soggy luggage, 12 teenage girls and 4 adults into vehicles and were off to camp. After a quick stop at Pizza hut, we then arrived at the camp. After unpacking our gear into the 19th century 3 story farmhouse, our home for the weekend. Then we had a quick snack, and we eventually settled down for bed.
Of course I didn't sleep much and morning arrived rainy and dreary. Everyone got up after two hours to make breakfast we finally ate. Did some fashion and fitness activities indoors. It looked like it was clearing up. We ate lunch, and they gathered there stuff for an outdoor survival activity. We then moved onto the outdoor survival skills. We taught them how to use a compass, made small survival kits and talked about some survival tips, etc.
Then everybody packed up there stuff and we headed outside to the "site of the plane crash". So we had created a mock scenario and split them into two groups that there was a plane crash. They had to first find water and make it safe for drinking, then they had to build a signal fire, next somebody "hurt their ankle possibly breaking it." They had to travel a bit more and build a shelter, then they had to find their way back to the old farmhouse we were staying in. Basically they were supposed to rely on their compasses, the supplies they had with them and their team members.
By this time the weather had cleared up and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. This took from about 2pm-8pm. It took awhile for them to work together and come up with ways to solve the problems. It didn't help that the camp map is inaccurate and part of the trail is now permanently under lots of water. We asked the camp ranger on Sunday and it turns out the map is 20 years old.

She said, they are working on updating it. It was also missing a fire ring we planned on using. We ended up hiking up some steep hills to get back on track. By having an unplanned obstacle in the course, it definitely helped them learn to think on their feet. The adults were basically just there to keep them safe.
So then the girls made dinner. Since it was so long since they ate, they ate the salad while they waited for their potatoes and chicken and peach delight to cook. Then some of the girls built a fire and led the Scouts Own ceremony, the adults assigned each girl a camp name and then we made S'mores.
It was a full moon and there was barely a cloud in sight so we went star gazing and discussed how you can use the stars to help you navigate.
Then clean up and off to bed. The night went way to quick and we were up again. The girls made breakfast, packed everything up, cleaned, last minute pictures and we headed home.
I got home around 12:30pm. Got a shower ate some food, around 2pm I headed to Hersheypark for Hersheypark in the dark. I left up there around 8pm and got home recently.
I need to head to bed, as I must go to work tomorrow. Although I am not tired now, I know I will be tomorrow as I have been on the go all weekend and did not sleep much because I just don't when I am responsible for so many others. Although I truly love being able to share my love of the outdoors and camping with others.
