Wish I had words of wisdom for you. My kids were never in dance for this very reason. I could take a weeks vacation on what they wanted us to spend on costumes, etc. However, I was lucky that they weren't really that interested anyway. Sorry not to be any help.

OK. Here is the first step done for Amy's famous cookies. They are supposed to be in the fridge 4 hours or overnight so I'll bake some tomorrow. I'll post pictures of the next step to show you how they turn out. Wish me luck!!

LOL! Now, Vicki, flatten that dough out even more so it hits all the edges of your plastic bag! :teeth:

And, I loved your Pal Mickey pics...your smile is beautiful and contagious! :)

Can you tell me about the Niles? Do they have anything between the toes? Or are they just open toed with a strap around the heel? Are they comfy? Would I be able to walk across DL in them? Right now, I'm waffling between the Nile and the Beach styles. Help me out, people.

I honestly haven't worn mine yet, but as you can see in the picture Kate posted, the strap can be behind the heel or shifted up so there's no strap. I sure hope they're as comfortable as people say, because I plan on trekking across the World in them next week!

I need advice:

Julia has begged me for the last few months to do cheerleading -so I called our local cheerleading gym and they told me tuition was $45 a month, then there were competition fees around $50 for 3 local competitions and the uniform - and they get less expensive uniforms b/c they grow so quickly - this seemed reasonable to me and so I enrolled Julia in tumbling class at the gym and told her she could do pee wee cheer next year. I was told by several people that the pee wee option was for people who want to see how they feel about it and an affordable option.

None of what I was told seemed out of line to me

Tonight they released all the information for next year.

Listen to these fees:

$130 coaches fee
$45 monthly tuition
$35 annual registration fee (which I paid when I enrolled her in tuymbling)
$125 uniform (this is supposed to be a cheap one?!!?)
$8 in hairbows
$12 bloomers for under skirt
$40 practice uniform
$150 warm up suit
5 competitions averaging $75 each (3 in other cities about 1 1/2 to 2 hours away so if they are early we will have to stay overnight in a hotel)

and this does not include gas, pictures, crap she will want to buy at competitions, end of the year banquet and what if she outgrows the $400 required clothing?!?!?

I figured out it will be close to $1500 for her to cheer next year without all the extras

I am mad that I paid the annual registration fee - I think they hid a lot of fees from me - they told me the uniform was about $120 - um think they could have mentioned the other $280 in required clothing?

and now - I have a little girl who is going to be crushed - I told her she could cheer -

I told her tonight it was too much money and I was going to see if I could find another gym but I am not sure anywhere else will be much better!!

Any ideas out there?

Is this through Pop Warner cheering?? I have some opinions on this organization, PM me if you want them.

LOL !! Ellen - I'd meet you for either cold one, drink or Chick Fil-A, just tell me when and where!!

I just realized you mentioned Tuesday night, but I'll be in Auburn playing Bunco with my college roommate! If he brings some up, put them in the fridge and I'll meet you for lunch on Wednesday!

Nope - we don't have any pop warner gyms in the area to my knowledge

Ok. Is this better? I updated the original picture. ETA: I used a rolling pin to roll it out to the edges. I have it laid flat in the fridge now.

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures and my smile.

Cheerleading is ridiculously expensive, but don't write it off until you research other places. I know that Julie just enrolled Carli in cheerleading too, so PM her and see what she says. She lives on the West side, so you probably won't enroll in the same location, but she might have some more info for you.

This is the site for the group that one of my former students cheered on until she graduated. http://www.southernohiotumbling.com/door/

Yes. It was the most nerve-wracking thing I have ever had to sit through in my LIFE. I wasn't going nuts.... but the longer it took to call our name the more I just didn't want to be there :rotfl:

We're pretty stoked though :)

Thanks everyone for keeping me calm and all the prayers and pixie dust! The thing I'm most excited about at this point is being able to take time to actually LOOK at houses, jobs, etc and not have to just do it all in a weekend or something! :goodvibes

Congratulations. I'm glad that the emotional roller coaster has ended. It is wonderful that you will be able to stay in Cincinnati. That is great.

Deb

I know my info is not for the whole year, but it would tide her over til she can cheer for tom-a-hawks!!!

Our uniforms at the gils school are $55. I could order her one to have!

They sell lots of cute t's and shorts at camp!

Think about it!

It looks like the same picture to me, but I trust that you've followed my directions. ;)

I just hate rolling out dough. I can't believe I used to refrigerate it overnight in a big clump in a bowl...the ziplock bag method is much better! :thumbsup2

What are the dates b/c I am all for that plan - do they have a camp to put Nick in all day too?!?!? :lmao:

Glynis -

I am very proud of you!!! You have such great discipline! I wish I could get my butt in gear and take off this extra weight!!!!!!!! I think you should post your after picture and inspire us all!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I promise that I'll try to get some pictures this weekend. I'm really stepping out of my comfort zone to do it, but it's time!

It doesn't help that every time I go by a mirror, I still see the fat girl. DH can't believe that I can't see a change, but I really don't. I think when you've been fat for so long, it's hard to believe that you can change that much. The only thing that makes me believe it is the carload of clothes I've given to goodwill, and the new clothes that are starting to appear in smaller sizes.

I do understand what you are going through....I have always been a BIG girl...so I spend so little time in front of the mirror...everyone says I am losing weight....I don't see it.....I see the big girl....figuring this big girl is always going to be there....I HATE getting my picture taken...BIG girl plus a mouthful of bad teeth equals blech in a picture.

So I will cheerlead your progress and when you are comfortable in front of the camera I will be even prouder of you!!!

I have no idea how long they will be on sale!

I think I'm sold on them. I'm going to order a pair tomorrow (tonight if I feel daring on the sizing). I hate to buy something without trying it on, but I'd hate to miss out on that sale! Do you know anything about their return policy?

Just popping in to say hi.

:tink: for all the sickys.
:woohoo: on all the milestones.
 all the new designs.

As always busy busy.
Glad I'm not on call this week.

Later

I hated that for my girls....the hidden costs are ridiculous. My youngest went to a cheer camp last summer....cheaper because of no competitions and only a tshirt....is this a possibility? Our local HS cheerleaders teach them but we went with a friend's daughter where there was a limit to the kids and the money went into her mission trip fund. Best $30 I ever spent!!

You're the best! DH says I just have to get over myself. I guess he's right, but it's really hard!
