Hi Marci - we currently get 8 bank holidays (public holidays) in England. These are in January, Easter, May, August and Christmas.

The law in England says everyone must have a minimum of 20 days holiday - it's currently up to the employer whether that is 20 days plus the 8 bank holidays or 20 days including, although they are trying to make it the law that you get the 8 in addition.

No sick/personal days in my company. You do get paid for being sick, depending on how long you've been in the company your sick pay lasts a certain amount of time, I think I could be off for six months before they start docking my wages. They don't say - you have 12 sick days for example - because then people would add them onto their hoiday allowance and think that they had to take them. If you're sick you're sick and you stay at home and if you're well you come to work!

Hope that all makes sense - it's interesting to hear how it works in the States too.

Clare -- thanks so much for the info. It is really helpful. One of my many roles in the company I run is HR, so I love hearing all this stuff, even though it probably bores everyone else. Thanks again!

It's from the lion's rock on the safari at AK.

I do!! Me !!! ME!! (But probably only because you asked :rotfl: )

To the expantant Grandmas congratulations.

To all who have ben sick hope you get better soon.

Amy, Kevin and Alyssa congratulations on your little Prince.

To glynnis DD congrats on getting to read at school.

To any one else congrats I just skimmed the post as we were out of town this Weekend. It was my DMIL 1st birthday since she died so we spent it with my DFIL. I tried to get DD to say Birthday yo OMA at the cementary but all she would do is noded her head.
Gotta go to Physical Therapy. catch up later.

I see it to - but would have never noticed it unless you asked. I see the top rock as the hat, the middle as the head and the lowest rock that points left as Donald's bill. How clever!

Amy - saw this on the Community Board and thought of you, and all my other DDAers. Too funny!!!

RAISING MALE CHILDREN

a) For those with no children - this is totally hysterical!
b) For those who already have children past this age, this is hilarious.
c) For those who have children this age, this is not funny.
d) For those who have children nearing this age, this is a warning.
e) For those who have not yet had children, this is birth control.

The following came from an anonymous Mother in Austin, Texas...

THINGS I'VE LEARNED FROM MY BOYS (and not kidding):

1.) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.

2.) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with rollerblades, they can ignite.

3.) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

4.) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.

5.) You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

6.) The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.

7.) When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh," it's already too late.

8.) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

9.) A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.

10.) Certain Legos will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old boy.

11.) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

12.) Super glue is forever.

13.) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

14.) Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

15.) VCRs do not eject "PB & J" sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.

16.) Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.(ps neither do umbrellas)

17.) Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

18.) You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.

19.) Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.

20.) The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response time.

21.) The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

22.) It will, however, make cats dizzy.

23.) Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy

24.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.

25.) Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids.

I LOVED this (and yes I did send it to all of my friends!)

I've got a terrible throat and a bad cough, so i can't talk much. Luckily it doesn't stop my fingers :rotfl:

Hello...I'm home! :hyper:

Amy :)

Amy -- I logged in long enough today to check out your ultrasound results and your signature said it all! Congrats on the new baby BOY!!

Hi, everyone! Things here are looking up. No more sickies! My kids do have colds, but that I can deal with. DH is feeling good enough to go to work, too. Whew! I feel like I've won a war!

The bad news? While everyone was sick I let my schoolwork, and housework slide, so I've got a lot of catching up to do. I'll check back when I can. In the meantime, have a great day!

Hi, all,

I haven't been on in several days, and haven't even begun trying to catch up, but I'm in need of some of that famous DDA PD!

I'M SICK!!!! :headache: :crazy2:

AND I LEAVE FOR WDW TOMORROW NIGHT!!!

DH came down with a nasty upper respiratory infection (fever near 104, coughing, congestion, etc.) on Sunday, and it's now made it's way to me, as of last night. Fortunately, I have about a 48-hour jump start on this with a ZPack, but I'm freaking out a bit. I'm not so much worried about going on the trip (I can handle a cough, as long as the fever goes away), but I am apprehensive about getting packed. I have done NOTHING, although I am getting ready to try to get started.

DH says it shouldn't be that difficult to pack, since we should be pros for packing for the World by now, but I guess my mind is just not with me right now, and I'm so concerned about forgetting something, etc.

I could feel this coming on yesterday - it was like my body was a ticking time bomb - so I made a bit of a list, and forced myself to do all my errands last night before I came home and collapsed into bed.

I could really use some PD to get me through today! I'm home from work, and am going to begin pacing myself, while also not wearing myself out. Our flight leaves for Houston tomorrow night at 8 p.m., and then we fly from there to Orlando first thing Friday a.m.

Thanks all of you. Here's some of my own pixiedust: for anyone else who needs it!

Hope you are feeling better soon.

My girls and I are excited about meeting you & DH at LaNouba. We drive to Green Bay Friday and fly to Orlando on Saturday morning. See you next week!!!!!

Here you go Lindsay! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

That Z pack will kick in, but cut yourself some slack today and REST, since you don't leave until tomorrow evening. Seriously, take it easy!

Amy :)

Lindsey -- PD and prayers pixiedust: pixiedust: to you for a speedy recovery, and for the strength to pack with a clear head.

Remember -- I do work in Dallas and will pitch in with errand-running or anything you need.

The whole thing is hysterical. When I first read the line about mixing Clorox and brake fluid produces lots of smoke, I thought that I'd better not let my 15 year old ds see that, because even though he is well past the stage, this might pique his curiousity too much. Then I got to #24...I guess he's an average "man."

Thanks for sharing!

You got it!
:wizard: pixiedust: :wizard: pixiedust: :wizard: pixiedust:

If it's anything like what we've had, the fever will go away quite quickly, but will leave behind quite a nasty cold. If you've got some Airborne, or Zicam, I'd suggest starting that right now. That's what I've done, and I have only the tiniest cough left, and no stuffy nose. DH refuses to use either, and is one big, drippy mess.

Trust that you know what you are doing! You are going to have a great time! Take notes, and tell us all about it when you get back!
