And I love this picture:

I got a lot of administrative stuff out of the way this morning and had a wonderful time teaching my first class at 10:00. So I am back to being excited about teaching again. Now, that didn't take too long, did it? :rotfl:
Thanks, Elin.

I just must have been the realization that summer is coming to an end that had you a little funky this morning.

In memory of June

Some people are so wonderful that even when they're gone, memories of the joy they brought to others linger on.

Here's the last picture that I took at our trip to Disney. I saw the bench and ran over to it and plopped the boys down thinking that it would be a great picture. That was before I realized what the significance of the bench was. :goodvibes

Although I didn't know June, she was obviously loved. :flower3:

Kim, cute and I like the youngest ones hat.

Where are your pictures from this morning, Kim?

AnneMarie the trip report is great. It seems that you packed a lot into each day. Can't wait to read more.

Tammi I agree, I can't wait for the October trip either. I so wish that we could fly out on Thursday and make MNSSHP, but that just isn't going to happen, I should be happy just having the long weekend.

Yea we did get alot done each day, thats why it took us a few days to get back to normal. The kids went to bed at 7pm the first 2 nights we were back. Next year I am going to book 2 less park days than we are actually there so we are forced to stop & do nothing. So maybe 10 days but 8 park days. Otherwise we just keep going!

I am so glad you guys are coming in October! I am looking forward to some grown up time thats for sure.

Thanks for all the kind words on the report everyone! Its a condensed version so I hope it reads well. I am getting some things ready for tomorrow (girls 1st day of school) & getting the house cleaned up. I did Dana's office this morning so that made him happy, It's not his junk in there, it's mine!

Here ya go...;)

The brownie cake that we made to commemorate the beginning of school. :goodvibes

Our first day:

I think that Shane was trying to rip off Owen's badge. Them fighting right before the bus pulled out made it a little easier. ;)

I always put the kids in front of the same door every year so I can measure how big they've gotten.

Owen insisted on wearing his Buzz Lightyear shirt that Beth made the DISign for. :thumbsup2

I have some cute ones of Alyssa and Owen but her last name is showing so I'll have to edit that out before I post it. :goodvibes

Here is how I'm feeling now. Have you heard this before?

Dear World:
I bequeath to you today one little girl...in a crisp dress...with two brown eyes...and a happy laugh that ripples all day long.. and a flash of light brown hair that bounces in the sun when she runs.
I trust you'll treat her well.

She's slipping out of the backyard of my heart this morning...and skipping off down the street to her first day of school. And never again will she be completely mine.
Prim and proud she'll wave her young and independent hand this morning and say "Goodbye" and walk with little lady steps to the schoolhouse.

Now she'll learn to stand in lines...and wait by the alphabet for her name to be called. She'll learn to tune her ears for the sounds of school-bells...and deadlines...and she'll learn to giggle...and gossip...and look at the ceiling in a disinterested way when the little boy 'cross the aisle sticks out his tongue at her. And now she'll learn to be jealous. And now she'll learn how it is to feel hurt inside. And now she'll learn how not to cry.

No longer will she have time to sit on the front porch on a summer day and watch an ant scurry across the crack in the sidewalk. Nor will she have time to pop out of bed with the dawn and kiss lilac blooms in the morning dew. No, now she'll worry about those important things...like grades and which dress to wear and whose best friends is whose. And the magic of books and learning will replace the magic of her blocks and dolls. And now she'll find new heroes.

For five full years now I've been her sage and Santa Claus and pal and playmate and mother and friend. Now she'll learn to share her worship with her teachers ...which is only right. But no longer will I be the smartest woman in the whole world. Today when that school bell rings for the first time...she'll learn what it means to be a member of the group...with all its privileges and its disadvantages too.

She'll learn in time that proper young ladies do not laugh out loud...or kiss dogs...or keep frogs in pickle jars in bedrooms...or even watch ants scurry across cracks in sidewalks in the summer.
Today she'll learn for the first time that all who smile at her are not her friends. And I'll stand on the front porch and watch her start out on the long, lonely journey to becoming a woman.
So, world, I bequeath to you today one little girl...in a crispy dress...with two brown eyes...and a flash of light brown hair that bounces in the sunlight when she runs.

I trust you'll treat her well.

Ok, I'm bawling now! This is so beautiful, I've copied it out for each of my kids. Someday they'll understand!

8/24
Today was the P&PP so we slept in til 8am. We had breakfast in the lounge which was such a time saver each morning. We went to the lobby & chatted with Teena the Greeter for awhile & then took the boat to DTD for the girls appointment at BBB. I asked the girls what was their favorite part of the trip & this was it for both of them. Sophie loves the princesses but wanted to be a pirate.

I let Daniel pick out any Lego (within reason) at the Lego store since he didn’t get his hair done & he picked a limited edition gas/station car wash.
After stopping back at the BC for some snacks at the concierge lounge we went to MK for The P&PP.

Now I made these arrangements 6 months ago. How could I predict what the weather was going to do! Well It started raining while we were on the bus. As we got to the MK (around 4pm) it poured like I have never seen before. We got off the bus, got on pour ponchos & stood under the bus stop for a moment hoping it would let up a little but no dice. It just came down hard. So we took off & headed inside the park. If I had known it was going to rain all night I would have exchanged our tickets for the 8/28 party but who knew at that point so we continued. We rode Peter Pan & Philharmagic. Dinner was at the castle at 5:30pm. I had 2nd thoughts about this dinner because of the mixed reviews & the fact that it was 2 TS credits however it turned out to be a highlight to the trip. We met Cinderella in the lobby.
IMG_0728-1.jpg

We were escorted to our table & the kids were given magic wands & a sword. They loved this place & we were in no hurry to leave since it was pouring & there was lightening outside the castle. Our server was nice, the food wasn’t that great but the atmosphere more than made it worth it. We watched out the window hoping the rain would stop but it didn’t.

After dinner we put on our ponchos & headed off. I felt bad for the girls because they were all BBB’d up & they had to wear their ponchos. They never complained so I guess they were ok with it.

The 1st parade was cancelled so we went over to see Captain Jack. The line was about 20 minutes. Captain Jack took his time with the kids.
IMG_0754.jpg

We went to the hub around 9pm (along with a lot of other people) waiting for the fireworks. They never happened. Then they announced are 9:45pm that in 15 minutes they would start after the parade. Well we were soaked & tired & the parade & fireworks didn’t go off until 10:30/10:45pm.

It stopped raining around 10:30 or so...After that we went to play pirate games in Tomorrow land & collect some more pirate loot. We did Buzz.
IMG_0756.jpg

Then we went to Toon town which was empty. It was about 11:15pm so the kids rode Barnstormer 3x with no wait, & walked through Minnie’s & Mickey’s house.

IMG_0805.jpg

The kids want to know if Mickey & Minnie are married why do they have separate houses? At midnight my kids were on the teacups & that was the last ride of the day. The rides closed & we took one last picture on the way out. The party was nice, but since all the dance parties, some character spots, & the Mickey show at the castle were cancelled it put a damper on things. I know now for next time we attend a ticketed event to buy the tickets the day of, no more advance purchase on these things for me.

Tammi - That is really lovely.:goodvibes If I wasn't so furious at DS right now I could appreciate it even more!

On FRIDAY I asked DS if he had homework. Yes, he had ONE assignment from Social Studies. I made him do it Saturday morning. It took 40 minutes of fooling around before he started it, and I think he did a pretty half-a$$ job on it. I just got up to go to the restroom and I noticed DS's bedroom light is on. An HOUR after he was to be IN BED, in the DARK. He is in there doing HOMEWORK!   He "forgot" he had this project for English. He had to write 5 pages and draw 5 pictures. The pictures haven't even been started. I am SO SO SOOOO ANGRY at him. I asked him multiple times this weekend about homework. I paid $1 for him to get a planner from school to write his assignments in. All weekend he has banged on those bells and played video games, and now he "remembers" that he has homework.:furious:

I told him he will have no TV tomorrow or Wednesday. He doesn't play video games during the week, but I think maybe I will take those away for next weekend. I also think he should have to be in bed by 8 PM tomorrow and Wednesday, but that may be impossible since we have to be at a thing at the school that doesn't start until 6:30 PM tomorrow. I know the ADD makes it hard for him to be organized. I know the ADD makes it hard for him to focus. But this is inexcusable. I need to make an impression on him that will guarantee this doesn't happen again. I am LIVID that he blew it off all weekend when he had SPECIFIC reminders about homework. This isn't mamby pamby elementary where the policy was no homework on weekends, ever. I hope he REALLY likes 6th grade because he may be there for several more years!

Oh, Elizabeth!:grouphug: to you. It's really tough, isn't it? I went through the same thing with Katie, but luckily, she remembered her homework yesterday afternoon, so we didn't have too much of a scramble. I feel for ya! Hopefully, he will get this whole homework thing figured out soon!

Deck building 101

Deb!!!!! Your deck is fantastic!!!! Looks like Chris enjoys it, as well!!! You deserve to have a wonderful place to relax and plan your next Disney trip!!! I love the furniture, too! I think you did a great job matching! I hope you have many wonderful times on that deck!!! I know that you will!

I had the most relaxing time this weekend. Made Chicken Pot Pie on Saturday and Carol made Zucchini Lasagna on Sunday. I will write more tomorrow and post a picture of the puppies. :goodvibes

Need to catch up on my post count :lmao:

I love Chicken pot pie, but that zucchini lasagna is sounding amazing!!!!! Did she use the zucchini in place of the noodles? I've got a recipe like that but I've never tried it.

Anne Marie - I'm sorry your P&PP was a bust. But it sounds like the kids still enjoyed it. The girls look simply royal all BBB'd up!

Did anyone else wake up thinking of June this morning? :(

Yes, I did. I was sad for a minute, then I thanked heaven for being allowed to know her, and all of you. You've all blessed my life more than you will ever know!
