LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Five Walt Disney World visitors and an employee were injured Tuesday after a water ride that simulates a trip down a rain forest river malfunctioned, authorities said.

Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Polak said the injuries were not life threatening, but she couldn't be more specific.

Polak said it was not immediately clear what happened on the Kali River Rapids ride, but somehow it malfunctioned about the point that guests transfer from floats to a walkway. The ride simulates a river rapids trip through a rain forest in the Animal Kingdom part of Disney World.

"Nothing like this has ever happened," she said.

Disney closed the ride to investigate.

thats 2010 right? if so my cousins and i are going that year too. maybe we could meet. i have know idea when they wanna go. i think they wanna go in june for 3 days. i started laughing and saying to myself you arent gonna see anything. i am guessing my cousin will wanna put the 3 boys down for a nap while there so with that added in it would be camando style while in the parks. okay enough rambling.

I'll definitely keep you posted, Karen!

Good morning!!

Just got back from ww's..down 5 lbs & I made my 10% target today.:cool1:

We had a very busy weekend. Saturday we saw the airshow at the beach, Sunday we went to the city to hang around the seaport, took the kids to see the stock exchange, federal hall, & trinity church. Yesterday we had a BBQ & played with the kids all day. It really felt like summer here & everyone didn't want to back to school this morning.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.

Congrats on the weight lost, Anne Marie! Sounds like a fantastic weekend!

I knew I should have put traveling circus BENCH. :rotfl2: It was before I had Abi and Cassidy was a little one....and we received tickets to a one ring circus. After a huge and I mean huge fight with the ticket taker we go in. We're sitting on the bench and were asked to move over...so I did....unfortunatly the bench decided it wanted to come with me. :rotfl: I had about 50 pieces of wood (most too big to be called splinters) in my thighs.

I thought all had festered out and I had a scar from the biggest (about 3 inches long) until about three years later and it came out with a little help with tweezers.

My name is NOT graceful and I have the scars to prove it!!

Yowza - all these splinter stories have me never wanting to go near a piece of wood ever again! That sounds so painful, but I'm glad you got rid of it finally!

I know! I'm so excited! Can I share a secret???? Alan and I are planning a trip to WDW to celebrate our 20th anniversary in 3 years. We'll take the kids and make it a week long trip!!! We're not telling the kids yet. I want to get everything all planned, and then let them know. I guess I've got time, right? Anyway, I'm really excited! Alan also wants to look at doing a week at WDW and then a Disney cruise. I just can't believe it's my husband who suggested it!!!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Yay for you! That sounds like a fantastic idea!

I'm looking for opinions.....

Ok, so my April trip is over, my October trip is planned......now I have the itch to plan a December trip. I'm hoping that Bob and his DD will be able to join us. Anyway, I'm trying to decide which DVC resort to stay at. When we went in December a few years ago, I loved staying at WL because it was so Christmas-y. But I'm really enticed to stay at the new AKL villas. Has anyone been to AKL at Christmas time? I'm looking for a resort that has that cozy Christmas flavor.

Thanks for your input Janet and Jen.

I called member services and they have availability for the dates I'm looking at, but I can't make a ressie until June 6, when they open it up to non-owners.

Tammi - Jonathan and I  AKL. We like it much better than WL, but that's probably just personal taste (I'm not really the woodsy type!). I'm surprised to say that I haven't actually been over there during the holidays, but I bet there are a lot of similarities from what you liked about the WL at the holidays - huge tree, lots of decorations (although they'll be more African-themed), opportunities to sit around the fire pits, etc. Plus, I think the wonderful smell and warm colors in the lobby make it cozy year-round.

And I'm impressed that MS is showing availability for your dates - after listening to all the hype over on the DVC boards when AKV was first announced, I would have bet it would be very hard to get into the Jambo House at this stage if you didn't own points there.

What dates are you considering?

Oh, and just found this picture on Deb's site: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/akl_lobby30.jpg

So my youngest just took 20 years off my life. She has her first day where she's alone....she went outside and locked herself out of the house. :scared1: Because it's a new neighborhood and she is afraid of grownups she didn't go to any of our neighbors to cal. When I got there (I had a coworker take me so I could check on her) she looked like she was scared I was going to be mad at her.....I was just so happy to see her!!

We needed to rekey the lock but we will also put a spare in the garage where she can find it.

Oh my goodness!!

I'm so glad to hear she's okay!

It sounds like a horrible accident occurred at the AK today.

WDWINFO.COM - (5/29 - 12pm) While details are still sketchy, it appears there has been a major accident at Animal Kingdom this morning that sent several guests to the hospital, and forced an entire section of Animal Kingdom to close down.

According to unconfirmed reports, a piece of equipment being used by workers on a bridge over the ride collapsed, and struck a raft full of guests. According to one eyewitness, the water at Kali River Rapids was "red with blood". Several ambulances and emergency personnel were on the scene. There are no reports of fatalities, but some on the ride were severely injured.

More information to follow as details become available.

ETA: Now they are saying minor injuries, bumps, bruises, etc.

Yes, those initial "reports" were definitely scary. I'm so glad that it's nothing as sensational as the DIS was reporting!

I'm far behind in reading, and don't have much time to catch-up right now. I hope you all had a great weekend, and I'll continue trying to catch-up as time permits. Since it's still SOGGY here, we probably won't have baseball games tonight, so I should be able to get more read tonight.

Here's :wizard: for everyone who needs it.

Hi, Marci - how was your weekend at the lake? I hope you guys enjoyed much better weather than we had around here!

i was there this past christmas. it has a beautiful christmas tree in the lobby. i havent been to wl so i dont know how it feels at christmas time there but i enjoyed akl. i loved it just because you are so enriched with the african culture and the animals at you balcony. i have a few pictures if you want me to email them to ya. the tree is gorgous(SP) at night from the outside in the back of the hotel. took a picture of that but it was very blurry.
Thanks for the offer, Karen, but I was searching the boards and found several pictures that satisfied my curiostiy.

Thanks, Lindsay. After looking at all the pictures, it does remind me a lot of WL's decorations. I inquired for Dec. 2-7, but I could do Dec. 9-14. I'm trying to stay away from Fri and Sat nights though.

Wow, I hope it is not as bad a 1st reported! :scared1:

Poor Colby

Hope Logan is feeling better soon :wizard:

I took colby in to the doctors today. The doctor ended up digging out a sliver that was in too deep for me to get out. He screamed and I hat to hold him down. It was HORRIBLE. Thankfully he got it out. He said the rest will surface over time.

Logan has a cold today and he is UGLY to say the least. He has argued with me over everything and back talked some too. I really hope that he will behave better by Thursday.

I think that I'll print out a Mickey head and try to baste a few t-shirts during the slow time at work tonight. I'd like to get those tie dye shirts done soon.

Have a nice weekend.

So the doctor's office called me back (again..they called on Friday when I was swamped) and I am going to try a sleeping pill for a week to see if that will get my sleep cycle back to normal.

I have been told to work on a vacation day...this Friday...I am not a happy camper.

OK. :wizard: Karen's Brother - Be gone with you!;)

I got the first draft of the contract from my new bosses today. They pasted portions of my current contract into it, so it looks pretty familiar!:rotfl: It is missing a couple of clauses pertaining to sick days and vacations that I want to have clarified but other than that it looks good. (Vacation and sick days are in there, it is just a tiny bit vague.) I called my friend to read my e-mail response to her before I sent it, and she happened to be in the car with another nanny. They both thought the response was fine, not pushy or snippy, so hopefully my new bosses will incorporate the changes and be done with it. This is the part whrere I have had a job blow up in my face before, so if anyone has a bit of Pixie Dust to help me get over the hump I would appreciate it. :flower3:

Becky -thanks for the update on Aidan!

It sounds like you are making progress on the contract. Sending :wizard: for a successful contract!

Prayers and pixie dust needed, Please!

I know the power of the DDA and just wanted to post this quickly before I leave.

The property supervisor of my Mom's complex found her laying on the floor of her apartment. Her gentleman friend had tried to call her for two days and got no answer. He called the supervisor and she found her there.

From the little news that I have so far, she was very disoriented, but conscious. They have rushed her to the hospital via ambulance, so I am on my way!

I will let you know what is going on when I find anything out!

Again, thanks!

Sending PD and prayers to your Mom. Give us another update when you can.

Found this on the CB. Has been verified: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/sanitizer.asp

I know we all use this in our classrooms on a daily basis, and I just wanted to encourage everyone to be sure and monitor the children with it. I honestly never even thought of this being an issue....scary! OK. I don't know where to begin because the last 2 days of my life have been such a blur. Yesterday, My youngest daughter Halley who is 4, was rushed to the emergency room by her father for being severely lethargic and incoherent. He was called to her school by the school secretary for being "very VERY sick." He told me that when he arrived that Halley was barely sitting in the chair. She couldn't hold her own head up and when he looked into her eyes, she couldn't focus them. He immediately called me after he scooped her up and rushed her to the ER. When we got there, they ran blood test after blood test and did x-rays, every test imaginable. Her white blood cell count was normal, nothing was out of the ordinary. The ER doctor told us that he had done everything that he could do so he was sending her to Saint Francis for further test. Right when we were leaving in the ambulance, her teacher had come to the ER and after questioning Halley's classmates, we found out that she had licked hand sanitizer off her hand. Hand sanitizer, of all things. But it makes sense. These days they have all kinds of different scents and when you have a curious child, they are going to put all kinds of things in their mouths. When we arrived at Saint Francis, we told the ER doctor there to check her blood alcohol level, which, yes we did get weird looks from it but they did it. The results were her blood alcohol level was 85% and this was 6 hours after we first took her. There's no telling what it would have been if we would have tested it at the first ER. Since then, her school and a few surrounding schools have taken this out of the classrooms of all the lower grade classes but what's to stop middle and high schoolers too? After doing research off the Internet, we have found out that it only takes 3 squirts of the stuff to be fatal in a toddler. For her blood alcohol level to be so high was to compare someone her size to drinking something 120 proof. So please PLEASE don't disregard this because I don't ever want anyone to go thru what my family and I have gone thru. Today was a little better but not much. Please send this to everyone you know that has children or are having children. It doesn't matter what age. I just want people to know the dangers of this.

Thanks for the info!

I can use prayers and good thoughts for my Grandpa. Remember how at Christmas we had him go to the ER because of arthritis and Gout. Well he was supposed to go to an arthritis specialist he had an appointment but because his pain and problems had went away he never went.

Well he ended up back at the ER on Thursday or Friday for the same reason. Sorry my days are running together. He is in tons of pain and can hardly walk again. They of course sent him home with meds and now has an appointment with the arthritis specialist for August. I am hoping they will be able to get an earlier appointment or that the meds he has now work, so his pain goes away. He is staying at my Aunt's with my Grandma as she can't care for him with him having a hard time walking. This stresses her out and she has several health problems of her own aggravated by stress.

Prayers for Grandpa and Grandma!

Now that I'm caught up I'll share our day with you. We got up bright and early and took the boys to the fishing Derby. They loved it. The pond was just stocked yesterday. There was a 5 fish per child limit. The kids had caught there limit in the first 1/2 hour. They didn't catch the biggest or smallest fish so no trophies, but it was good fun. We had to wait 2 hours longer for the door prizes. Colby won a new reel and Hunter won the ugliest fish pillow I've ever seen :lmao: They also got goody bags with a bobber, hooks and fake bait. They fed us grilled hot dogs and cheeseburgers, chips and soda. Great morning. Then we went to my parents home to open the pool. While we were there Colby ran up onto an empty car hauler trailer that was on the lawn. You know the kind that are made with pressure treated board for the floor. Yep, he ran onto it BAREFOOT. He had/has at least 30 splinters in each food :scared1: We took him home and soaked his feet then tried to remove the splinter. We quickly gave up as there were way too many and he was screaming everytime I picked at one. So off to the ER for us. This was at 2 PM and I needed to be at work at 3 PM. I called to say that I would be late. Thankfully the ER was quiet so they saw him quickly. The ER doctor said that he was only going to remove the bigger pieces. The rest will either surface or be absorbed by the body :confused3 He scrubbed his feet and used a scalpul to get a few out. They covered his feet with bacatracin and gauze and home we came. Now we need to soak/scrub his feet several times a day to keep them clean to prevent infection and hopefully to work some more splinters out. We go back on Tuesday for a wound check to make sure that he hasn't gotten infected. Needless to say he cannot walk comfortably. I ended up being 45 minutes late for work. It started slow. I was lucky enough to get a party of 15 (that's the biggest party I've had at once to date). I ended up only doing 25 people, but that's not bad for a sunday night. I came home and had to do the foot scrubbing then read my little angel a book. He has suddenly (thankfully) begun to enjoy being read to. I told him that we should do it everynight :goodvibes Now I'm able to relax for the first time all day.

Poor Colby! And poor you after the follow-up! It was probably more traumatic on you having to hold him down then on Colby. I hope he is feeling better now. You deserve a drink tonight!

I think her name is staying Pearl...she is now hiding under our bed. We decided our room has the most room for a litter box, so we got a covered one. She had been with the rescue group 5 months and had been taken from a kill shelter. The poor baby.

What a cutie! Congrats!

Yes I'm a proud Mom!!

You should be a proud Mom. Thank you to her and all of the Men and Women serving our country!

Good morning!!

Just got back from ww's..down 5 lbs & I made my 10% target today.:cool1:

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.

Congrats to you! That is awesome news!

Lindsay -- sorry about your event yesterday. It was soggy down on lake LBJ, but not as bad as here. We drove down and back in lots of rain -- very frustrating! I-35 is bad enough in good weather.

It was great fun to see our friends, and also nice to be able to go outside when it's not broiling hot. We did go out in the boat twice between rain storms, and sat outside at the covered dock a lot, so we didn't get too wet.

Games were cancelled for tonight, and we're expecting rain every day but Saturday (but that night there is a chance) then more on Sunday. UUUGGGHHH! Someone take the rain away!

I hope everyone has a restful evening!

 Hi Friends!!

Hope things are going well for everyone! I'm really going to try to keep up here! Life has been so hectic. I miss you guys!!

Hi Kelli! How have you been? So nice to see you posting, hope too see you more :goodvibes

Been doing good, thanks! :goodvibes My online job had a huge cutback in hours. I'm loving having the time back, but the checkbook's not liking it at all. I'm having to rob Peter to pay Paul for some things. ;) I just have to get creative ;) My aunt's planning a trip at the end of November. I told her last night that my uncle really doesn't want to go and she should take me instead. She didn't think my uncle would agree. He's looking forward to it as much as she is.:rotfl:

Congrats on your weight loss! I think I found it, so if you want it back, let me know!! :lmao:

I am so mad right now :furious: Garrett & Riley just came home. Riley has bruises around his neck & Garrett has bruises around his neck & a nice gash in his back! They were at a friends house in the club house & Garrett's friend told Riley he needed to go. Riley did not leave & this kid starting choking Riley. Garrett got mad & tried to get the kid off of Riley. This kid then gets a stick or something similar & whacks Garrett on the back with it!

I called his mother & had a nice little talk with her. I will not put up with this! Garrett & Riley are to stay away & I told the mother to make sure to tell her son the same. What A way to start summer :sad2:

Garrett has a game tonight. Talk with you all later!

Deb - I hope Colby's feet continue to heal properly and that Logan stops being a snot.;)

Tammi - I know that December itch. I have it myself. Dec. 13-16 would be our dates (flying in late the night of the 13th) if we went. We'll see.

Marci - I am glad you were able to enjoy your weekend despite the rain. I am so sick of rain I could scream.

Anne Marie - Great job on the weight loss!

Janet - I would be furious! I hope the boys are OK!

Kelli - We have missed you! Good to see you posting!

Theresa - I'm glad everything worked out OK with Abi being locked out of the house! Good for Pearl for using her potty.:)

Glynis - Yay for your DL trip being so close, and yay for 2010!

Yikes!!! Good for Garrett for sticking up for his brother. You are right...it's not the best way to start the summer.
