now we need SW to run a red eye!

Beth - Southwest just recently started flying out of Dulles. Before that we had to drive to Baltimore or Norfolk to get deals on airfare. Things are improving slightly for us, but our closest airports are a good hour away no matter which one we choose!

Vicki - I hear you on the cold weather for retirement! Luckily Bob and I are in agreement on this. So, that is why we are seriously discussing our retirement years now when we can make a move that his company will pay for to get us to the location that we think we want to be in in our "older years." Florida and South Carolina are at the top of our lists.

I'm looking more North Carolina, Tennessee, etc. Florida would be too warm some months of the year for me plus I need to be some place that does get a little bit of snow.

That's one reason I like Virginia so much. We get all 4 seasons, in just the right dose. :thumbsup2

What's the cost of living there? Is it expensive? That is one of our other considerations other than the seasons.

What, the snow on Main Street and at Osborne Lights doesn't count???:confused3

Cost of living is astronomical. :sad2:

Let me add to that last post.... it would certainly depend on where in Virginia you were looking. Here in our area we are feeling the Northern Virginia sprawl with the accompanying price increases.

Where Elin and I are it's not too, too bad. But go north about 20 miles and it is outrageous. Go south a bit and it is even more reasonable.

ETA: I see Elin doesn't quite agree with me on this, but I guess I was comparing our area with our northern VA counterparts.

I just got email from Southwest about a deal they are running for May and June travel. I could fly RT from DC to Orlando for $128.80! Now, if I only had a reason to go.... :rotfl: or a child to take.... :rotfl:
Um, Elin...didn't we discuss adoption earlier this week?

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Good morning, DDA!

Have fun prom dress shopping, Vicki! We took the girls out to get dresses for the 8th grade social, and there were lots of older girls shopping for prom dresses. They were so beautiful, but I am not ready for that!

Here are some (not so great) photos of Laura's social dress.

Very pretty. I have to say that I am amazed at how much older 8th graders look now compared to when I was in school. And do any of you remember teh gunny sack (spelling?) dresses. That was what I wore to the 8th grade graduation dance

Becky is excited that it is Friday the 13th. How appropriate that the day is about her and her prom dress. We will be leaving here in about 1/2 hour.

Good luck with the prom dress shopping

Elin You all know that Chris and I are just big kids. I'd volunteer to be your daughter, but my big kid dh would protest if he didn't get to go too :lmao: :lmao:

Dana & I are agreed once we retire we want to move south..it's just too cold here & the cost of living is just too high. Even with his job transfer I told him anything on the east coast ( I need a beach) but south.

I don't totally disagree with you, Tammi. It is better than northern Stafford or Prince William County. However, for a family starting out or needing to get a property in this area anymore it is next to impossible to find anything "decent" for under $275,000. A 1 BR condo on William Street is going for $160,000! And a little ranch house like mine, on a slab, in our neighborhood has an asking price of over $275,000. The city of Fredericksburg's own website lists the median house value at $475,000.

Another one of my thoughts. I told Chuck that when we retire, we are moving closer to an airport that gets good deals so that I can fly to Disney more often! Even though retirement is many years away for us, I talked to him about it. I don't see myself living here once I retire. However, he does. I guess I'll have to start working on him about that. I see myself some place that doesn't have so many months of extremely cold temperatures. I like 4 seasons but prefer to be someplace where winter isn't quite so extreme.

I also would like to retire someplace that is a little less extreme in winter weather. Right now, though, we are more worried about whether we will be able to stay here (if dh's job will stay here) long enough to get my kids all through high school. We also live in an area that has one of the lowest costs of living in the country, so it may be a shock to go elsewhere.

well, my family is growing with leaps and bounds now! I always wanted a son, so I guess we will need another room or a Grand Villa. :goodvibes
