The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 24

Hi all! I feel like I've been playing catch up that last couple of days and may continue for a few more. I was feeling better today until I decided that I felt good enough to rake sweet gum balls in the yard. That and an oh-so-fun argument with my DH and I was worn out again. Some medicines have me feeling a little better again so hopefully that will continue.

Of course, I have 3 kids 24 hours a day for the next 5-6 days so that could be tiring in itself. Chris' mom is giving Kristi and Chris her car so they are flying out to CA in the morning to introduce them all to Chase and then drive the car back. They should be back Sunday evening, but it could be Monday depending on how good of a passenger Chase is.

Tonight was fun though because I got to learn up to use a handheld GPS to go geocaching. I've always wanted to do it and now am going along as a chaperone on Rachel's geocaching field trip on Thursday. Tonight the parents going met with the gym teachers to learn how to use the systems and the basics of the field trip. It should be a lot of fun. Of course, I'll probably leave wanting a GPS system for my birthday, but at least that would be something fun that I could ask for.

Thanks for all the good wishes!:goodvibes Wouldn't it be funny to find the perfect job without ANY of these agencies helping? DH is really snarling about the distance, but we need to remember that I have gotten spoiled by living so close to my job for the past several years. The Black Pearl isn't a lease vehicle, so we don't have to watch every mile. Yes, gas is $3 a gallon:scared: but I quoted the mom a higher salary than my current one so I could absorb that increased cost. This could be good. I just have to be careful not to force a sqare peg in a round hole because I am nervous that I won't be able to find anything better if I wait.

Well i think im going to head to bed..its only Tuesdya night and im already really looking forward to the weekend!

On the bright side , tomorrow is day number 60 of student teaching!its SO close (13 more teaching days!) and yet i feel like ill never be done! this weekend im going to try to figure out how to print my postcards for the trip, but so far, i cant get them right!

have a great night everyone

Good night, Jo!

Tia - I hope you feel better soon! I don't know what would possess you to go out and rake. I wouldn't rake even if I felt FABULOUS!:rotfl2: The geocaching sounds like fun! DH has a GPS that he HAD to have and he never uses it. He wanted it for hunting, but he hardly ever hunts.:confused3 He also has a metal detector that he HAD to have and never uses. Oh, well.

The raking was due solely to the fact that I need to do something even more fun....mowing! There are just too many gum balls to mow over without creating a war zone of flying spikey balls, plus the potential blade damage.

A little brag: DS got his 5th marking period report card today. He got one "B" and all the rest "A"s!!! We think this is probably the best report card he has EVER gotten! Of course the B is in math, but it is an 85.:)

So I was on the phone with one of my friends, and another friend called on my cell. I let it go to voice mail and called her back. She met a nanny at Gymboree who is quitting her job in about 6 weeks, and she is trying to help the family find a new nanny. SO my friend gave the nanny my name and number to give to her boss. The mom called me on my way home and she seems delightful! She has a roly-poly baby. She would like to have another baby next year. She does not think it is HORRIBLE that I have DS! She lives more north than I would like, but with everything else being so positive I might be willing to stretch a little on the drive. She needs someone mid-June at the latest, but there again, it is worth meeting them. The mom just sounds SO nice! I e-mailed her my resume, and she is going to talk to her husband and figure out when it would be convenient for us to have an interview. And so it begins.

Yay DS! :dance3:

And YAY for a good possibility on the job front! How far north is it? It couldn't be nearly as far as Marci and I drive each day to work! :rotfl: ;)

I hope you get to feeling better, Tia. I've also been somewhat curious about the geocaching thing, but I doubt I'll ever try it. I hope it's fun for you!

Ick on the raking and fighting! I hope you don't have to do either again for a long time.

You all take care.
I'm heading to bed.
Catch ya later.

Goodnight, Jen! You've come so far - keep up the good work!

DH has a GPS that he HAD to have and he never uses it. He wanted it for hunting, but he hardly ever hunts.:confused3 He also has a metal detector that he HAD to have and never uses. Oh, well.

Don't they all have some of those things? I know I have a BowFlex sitting in my dining room that DH just HAD to have. Let's just say that proximity to workout equipment definitely doesn't seem to spur usage. :rolleyes1

Lindsay - It's a shame I don't live in your house, because it is really close to you! Mapquest says 13.5 miles. Which in and of itself isn't bad. The trick is getting DS dropped off at school. The mom needs the nanny there around 8 AM, maybe a little later. Middle school begins at 8:30. We would have to figure out how late I would get there if I drop DS off first, then we would have to decide if it would be better for me to come to work first and pick up the baby, then come BACK and drop off DS. That's what has DH's knickers in a knot. I don't really want DS to ride 26 miles every day before he makes it to school. I need to find out exactly how early he can be dropped off at school. I don't imagine it is earlier than 8 AM. The other things to consider are maybe having him ride to school with a friend one morning a week (his best friend lives right there by the middle school, and the mom offered to drop off DS with her son if I need help) and of course when DH is off he will take DS to school. So no matter how we work it I wouldn't be coming back to drop off DS 5 days a week, every week.
I am pretty sure Marci wins for "longest commute". But I am happy to allow her to retain that title!:rotfl:

Tia - Mowing sounds just as fun as raking.:scared: I am glad we don't have a yard!;)

Well, that doesn't sound too terrible - at least there are a lot of different scenarios that you could try out.

And I understand about being close to work - up until we bought our house 3 years ago, I hadn't lived further than about 4 miles to work. Needless to say, I'm still not completely used to the 25 mile commute in traffic. :headache:

Hello DDA.
I finally got home tonight. I was supposed to come home yesterday. I got to the airport yesterday and was checking in and the guy said there were "ground issues" in Charlotte, NC. I just looked at him with a question on my face and he admitted that they screwed up. He said he could put me on a flight early this morning but I would have a stop in Charlotte, Phila and then on to Harrisburg. Well, that did not make me happy. He finally did some checking and put me on a non-stop to Harrisburg but it would not leave until this evening at 5:54pm. He then told me I could go over to Delta to get my seat. Well, I tried but they told me that I could do that on line.

Getting a sense of a problem??????

I spent over an hour trying to get a seat, talking to customer service and even the tech support. At one point, I told the guy I wanted to speak to his supervisor. Well that took over 25 minutes and when he came back on to tell me he was still trying to reach a supervisor, I went sorta ballistic. I hate that they have all of the calls go overseas and you cannot understand anything they say. All I wanted to do was get a seat and verify that I was not stand-by.
This afternoon I had my sister take me to the Marta and made her go home. I told her I would just keep in touch.
I went to the Check-in desk at Delta and asked for a seat verification. The lady told me that I had to go to the check in desk to get a seat. I looked at her point blank and asked if I had a seat and she said yes and then I asked her if I was stand-by and she said no. I asked her again and she said no.
I finally got to the gate and checked in and the guy told me I was on stand-by. I should have made the US Air guy get me a seat but I was just so happy to get a non-stop flight, I did not think about a seat.
They said they would ask for voulnteers to give up their seats. I had to wait to see what would happen. I called Stephanie and my sister and by then I was really stressing out and crying. It looked like I might have to wait until tomorrow to get out. I kept thinking I was gonna go crazy and not get any of my work done this week. Usually by Wednesday, I am checking the print-out to verify the attendance and am on time with my work. I could just imagine not finishing and going crazy.
Well, needless to say, I got on the plane. :goodvibes
I am so happy to be home.
I really had a good time but all of this trouble has been such a drain.
I will be writing a long letter to US Air and even Delta.
I did learn a few things about flying.

We used to live in Carrollton (Marsh at Rosemeade) and I worked at Town East Mall. That was 25 miles and it was RETAIL, for crying out loud! I can't believe I used to do that! DH drives 19 miles to the distribution center every day, so my commute would still be shorter than his! But going straight up Hillcrest or Coit would take close to 30 minutes, so going back and forth would really have to be kept to a minimum!

I think it is about 5 miles from here to work now. When we lived in Carrollton it was about 10 miles to my old nanny job, but there were like 24 stop lights so it took a good half hour even if there wasn't much traffic. I can't remember how far it is from here to the loft where my bosses lived before they bought their house. Not too far. I would have to get used to driving up there every day, but it might not be too bad.

Terry - I am so sorry your flights were BOTH so horrible! That just is not fair! I am glad you are home safe and sound now, and I hope you enjoyed your time with your sister!

Oh, Terry! I'm so sorry that you had all this trouble on both legs of your journey! I'm glad you made it home safely, though!

Elizabeth - I am so glad that you have a prospective job interview! It sounds like something you would enjoy, once you got all the details hammered out! Good luck with all of it!

I'm so tired tonight. I got 20 shirts washed, ironed, transfers put on and packed away for the trip! I'm almost halfway there! Of course, I'm out of paper, now, and have to wait for my next order to arrive.

So, I'm heading off to bed to read a couple of chapters, and then get some sleep. I won't be around much the next few days as our Spring Break is just starting. Yikes!

I got the email from Pine Cone today. I've been accepted. Thanks again, Janet!

Me Too!!

So I got together a bunch more paper this afternoon and the loan is once again in the underwriter's hands.

I've been praying for God's Will in this..the whole time. I am now praying for the underwriter to see what what he needs to see so we can have the house. Feeling pretty selfish praying for it but as I told Jim last night we will be moving the first weekend in May one way or the other!!

:wizard: :wizard:

Congrats on finishing the class and getting the info across to your young hoodlums!:thumbsup2

I am glad she is OK!:)

That is great. He has been working hard

Terry I'm so sorry that you had such travel issues. It's good to have you home safely.

Now I remember why I didn't want to waitress...I got my butt kicked tonight. Actually all 4 waitresses did. We did 160 meals tonight with only 4 waitstaff. We usually have 6 on Tuesday night. I did 38 meals myself, which is my new personal best, but I can say that no one got great service. How could they when we were spread so thin? I must admit the money wasn't bad, but if I could have given better service the money would have been even better  Of course I'm still fighting this chest cold and barely have a voice. I just hope that I can sleep tonight because I really want to sleep

Hi all!!

Elizabeth-congrats on the great report card and prospective roly poly!!

Tia- I hear ya on the raking and fighting.Hope the rest of the week smooths out.

We went Prom dress shopping. :scared1: The biggest problem???? So late being asked there was hardly anything that was big enough to hold Cassidy and her girls...plus the dresses were picked over.

We did find a dress...so cute....can't find a pic online I will keep looking. not too fancy because well it's not like it's her senior prom. :rolleyes1 It's pink with a black overlay.

Terry-

I am so sorry your flights were so absolutely horrendous!!! I hope the trip in between was what you needed it to be. :goodvibes

Deb - Glad you made it through your wild night at work! :scared1: I hope you are able to get some rest so you can feel better!:goodvibes

Glynis - Good luck with Spring Break!:wizard: Congrats on your shirts! That's terrific that you are already at the half-way mark!

Theresa - I am sure Cassidy will look beautiful!:)

I am off to bed! Good night, DDA!
