What are your dates for Dec? We are going the 19th - 28th. Kristine will be there as well & hopefully Elin!

Hope your headache is better today :wizard:
We will be at Disney with my older sister and her family and mom and dad Dec. 9-22 with a day or 2 at SW. It's her first time since we were kids so she wants to have plenty of time to see as much as possible as she doesn't think her DH will allow her to come back. Than the 23-30 will be at a timeshare with my mom,dad and younger sister (who wants to do Universal :scared1: ) It started out as our tenth anniversary trip and has turned into 2 mini family reunions.:confused3 It will be fun to show my family why we love Disney so much that we have gone more than once.:goodvibes So now I need to research Universal as I know nothing about that park and find all the Christmas designs I lost on my computer. As I had already had all the shirt designs that we wanted picked out I just needed to figure out how to change the dates and names. And somehow I opened up my big mouth and Dsis would like personalized autograph pages and invitations for her DD who will be 9. Not that I mind I want it to be a :wizard: great trip for her and my neice as her DH never allows them to go places so this is their first and probably only vacation unless she starts standing up to him. It would be fun to see some of the DDA'ers that are there in Dec.:goodvibes

I think you'll find that once you are actually doing all the teaching, it will really fly by! At least that's how it was for me. Once I could actually do MY thing, I enjoyed it more, too! The only days I would get nervous was when my advisor came to watch me teach. That was scary!

Thanks Glynis-I havent met my advisor yet, but will next week--ive heard hes nice though!

K. Just have to vent for a minute or a couple of kids are going to get it! I'm babysitting my niece and nephew while their mother is at a state PTA convention. It just frustrates me to no end that they are not taught manner, or basic what's right and wrong and then taken out into public. This little boy just delights in destroying things. He and his sister just destroyed my bookshelves in our family room. I'm hoping Alan can fix them easily, but it's so frustrating. Each time they come, they are told the rules, "Don't go into rooms where the doors are closed. Don't touch the bookshelves. Only get one toy out at a time, and when you are done, put it away. Don't write on the walls." Nothing too hard, and they know the rules by heart. Grrrrr. The sad thing is, I'll tell his mom what he did, and she'll just laugh. She honestly thinks that's what boys do.

I actually don't know why I'm so surprised. This is a family that has had to replace their flooring in their house 13 times in the last 15 years because their children like to destroy things. I can't wait to take them home!!!!!!!

 ! I didn't realize that children and parents like that really existed until this year's preschool class. I have one child that has become very hard to deal with, and I think that he is making it hard for the other children. I am working to have him removed from the class if he can't begin to behave.

The part that really floored me was his mother's attitude. I told her Tuesday that he has become very disobedient and defiant and that he is spitting at people and on the furniture. Not just raspberry type spitting either. She basically laughed it off and said that in his favorite Tom and Jerry cartoon they spit milk out and he thinks it's funny. She told me that she tells him to stop. I informed her that I was ignoring some of the behavior (because he's definitely testing for a reaction), but when it impacts the other children, I need to take some action. Today he ended up sitting in a chair away from the class at least a half dozen times in 2-1/2 hours! Next step is that she or his father will be called to remove him from class for the day. I told dh that I have suddenly become in favor of corporal punishment in the classroom (only half joking!). If I ever had a report about one of my children like that I would be  :furious: , and here she just laughs it off. Today his father dropped off and picked up, and he didn't even make an attempt to find out what his behavior was like today.

Sorry that my  for you turned into a vent for me!

My brother and his fiance live in Orange county and they love it. I'll talk to him today and try to get some information for you. I won't be able to do much on the school front, as they don't have kids, but I'll get what I can.

How exciting it would be for me to have you in California!!!! I'd be much more likely to get to meet you!!!!! (Oh and the promotion for Dana is really cool, too!):rolleyes1

Thank you Glynis!

I guess I'm a lucky girl. Chris proposed to me on Christmas Day on the steps of the building where we met. He even got on his knee  I had no idea that he was going to propose as we were both so young. I remember that it was snowing too. My ring is tiny and he has offered to replace it with another, but it just wouldn't be the same. I was able to plan the wedding that we wanted and a really beautiful and most importantly really fun reception. People who attended still remark about how much fun it was. My parents lived less than a mile from the reception hall and after the reception they held a post reception party. They had tons of food and drink ;) It was a super hot day and everyone brought their swimsuits and enjoyed the pool. We ate, had fun and opened all our gifts for everyone to see. We got married at 11 AM and left my parents after midnight as the party was just ending. We forgot to set our alarm and if my Dad hadn't showed up to take us to the airport we would have missed our flight to WDW. I guess I was on :cloud9: . The only thing I would have changed was we would have had a hotel room instead of a tent at WDW. We did what we could afford and had a great time. I guess that trip started our love of Fort Wilderness too.

awwww

Lets see how well my memory is, I've been reading off and on for 2 hours so I'm sorry if I miss anyone.

Jen I'm glad that the teaching is getting a little easier. I'm sure that once you get to know the kids it will make things much easier.

Christie Welcome back. I'm so sorry about your computer. That stinks and seems to happen at the worst possible time. I have learned the hard way to back up everything to disk, too many things have been lost over the years.

Steffy you will have a great trip. There are definitely more things that can be done as a family than things that can't. They always have the option of splitting up if the should desire to. Just make sure that you do some of the things that you want to do too.

Becky Good luck with your classes

Glynis I love your trip report. I can't believe how many details you are remembering which really tells me how special this trip was to you and Alan

Tammi get the kids better, your trip is just around the corner :thumbsup2 Notice the smilie is green, that is my jealous side shining through ;)

Sorry if I missed anyone.

Deb
Now when my husband decided to bring me into the age of technology why didn't he mention backup.:sad2: I will definitely have him teach me how to do this now.

I know nothing about CA except you'll be closer to DL :thumbsup2 I'm sure that you will be happy where ever you move. Do you have family in CA? or NY?

Deb

No family in CA. We have my mom, Dana's mom, & my BIL's family here in NY.

Wow sounds like you are going to have a wonderful time! We are thinking about a day or two at US as well. It really is not a bad place & they do have some neat rides. Hopefully we can meet up again in Dec!

That is so sweet. You are a real princess & prince story.princess: :)

WOW! no wonder you are frustrated--i hope you got through the day without any more damages!

Made the family tree tonight for Riley's school project. Thank you to the person that suggested the beehive. Garrett drew the beehive & little bees. We wrote the names above the bees. It is not perfect, but we are all pleased with it.

Anne Marie - I don't have any advice on CA, but just wanted to say :thumbsup2 for Dana and  for both of you as you make this important decision.

Everyone I've ever known that has lived in CA has loved it, so that has to count for something! I know the cost of living is pretty steep there, but I can't imagine it would be much different than NYC.

Thanks! The cost is roughly the same but our taxes which are now $10k a year would be significantly less. Home prices are slightly less than here too. We talked about it so more, they may not choose him (his boss loves him & does not want to loose him) & then the decision would be made for us. I just love NYC & love popping in any time I want, I would really miss the whole thing.

   Bernadette!   Thank you so much! My son said the crying when he goes to other people is normal according to their pediatrician. He said his son is healthy, well loved, smart, plays well and is growing fine as far the doctor is concerned. The doctor doesn't feel my DGS needs any more socialization, and that is good enough for me. :goodvibes

I believe that if I visit more often, he will get used to me. He will let my DD hold him for a moment, so there is hope.

I know we'll have a great time at Disney. We will be celebrating their 10th anniversary. I have an ADR at CG that night. I'm hoping that the baby will go to sleep and they will go to PI that night. The last time we were all in DW, they loved PI. :goodvibes

Thank you for reminding me about the fountains at EPCOT. They liked EPCOT when we were there before. Loved the Garden Grill. I suppose the baby could do SE? The Nemo ride and maybe Journeys into the Imagination? I really want them to go on Soarin'. I don't think my 3 y/o DGS can go on that either, so maybe he will help me watch his cousin while the parents go and then I can ride. I keep forgetting my DD will be there too! My Dsil and my DGD will be doing TT and MS, the orange side. My DD, DS and DDil did MS once and never again!

Okay, well, I'm not going to fall asleep at my computer again tonight, so nitey nite DDA!!:dance3:

Steffy, I meant to type this in earlier, but I didn't have time. Let me tell you a little story about my first born. He was always at home with me when he was little. It used to kill my mother when we'd visit and he'd cry if she tried to hold him, but she understood. There was a time that he wouldn't even let dh give him a bath. It could only be me. Around the time he was 18 months old, I had to be hospitalized for a few days because of an ulcer. He and daddy did amazingly well without me. He didn't have any issues with the fact that I was gone. When I returned, he latched back on to me. He had a couple of rough days at the beginning of nursery school when he was three, but after that, no problems whatsoever. He walked into kindergarten without even looking back. He is now 15, on the high honor roll, socially well-adjusted, and was even a lead in the school play (and loves his grandma a lot!).

thats cute!

Ann Marie,

I lived in San Diego for three years and loved it there. My uncle has lived in Modesto for over 40 years and he is very happy there.

as for earthquakes, we only had one which was very minimal. But we did get snow one year. On December 17, 1967.

Thanks Terry! Wow, how did you remember that date? As for snow, I could do without it!

Good morning.

I posted this on the CB but thought I would ask here as well.

Dana is up for a promotion:cool1: , but it would require us to move from NYC to CA. :sad1: I have never been to California & would appreciate any info you can give. (Best home location, good school districts, etc) The area of his location would be LA, Long Beach, Orange Co, Fresno, & Sacramento.
I am not thrilled at this prospect as I love, love, love NYC but it is a good move up & I have to at least keep my mind open, right?
My biological dad lived in Vacaville CA which is near Sacramento. It seemed like a nice area at least to visit maybe some of our people from CA can give you info. on schools. I know moving across country is scary we moved from IA out here in the middle of my second pregnancy and I was terrified of giving birth at a strange hospital and how different everything would be. But it is pretty out here and you'll be near DL. I hope that you'll get enough info. to make a decision. And Congratulations to Dana for being offered a promotion.

Just remember....DISNEYLAND!!! Resident APs aren't very expensive! We lived in Orange County for 2 years and it was pretty nice. However, depending on where the office is, I would maybe not go out too far. I worked for the first 2 weeks in downtown L.A. and the commute was 1.5hours each way during rush hour. Long Beach is beautiful and would be a nice place to live. I hear that the area just north of LA is nice too though we were never there. Good luck to Dana!!

Thanks Tia!
