I hope no one minds or is offended, but I feel the need to brag on my DH a little bit today. I don't know how large the news story of the space capsule "Stardust" landing last weekend was where you all live, but here is was huge! My DH is a field photographer for a local news station, and was sent to the landing site to cover the story. Unfortunately, the weather report wasn't so good and the forecast was for cloudy and snowy. DH had to be there at 3:00 a.m., and he left me at 10:30 the night before, to give himself time for the 3 hour drive plus any snow and ice he might encounter.

He was the first photographer to arrive, and the NASA people gave him a prime site. Other news stations started to arrive, but none of them set up their equipment because they all thought the cloud cover and snow would hamper their visibility. DH, however, was all set up and ready to go. Finally, about 3 minutes before the re-entry, the snow stopped, the clouds shifted and there was clear sky. The capsule appeared in a large fireball with a tail streaming out behind it and DH was the ONLY photographer that captured it! The NASA people couldn't get their camera out until much later, and none of the other news stations got it on film at all. After it was all over, everyone was scrambling to get DH's film from him. The Discovery Channel wants it for a special they are airing later this month, CNN wants it, NASA wants it, etc. DH was a little bummed, because he can't sell the film. It legally belongs to the station he works for. If he had just been filming on his own time, he could have sold it for quite a bit of money.

However, I'm so proud of him! He takes such pride in his work! Thanks for letting me brag a little. I'm sorry if this is inappropriate!

Glynis-- That is HUGE!! what an awesome feat!! While he will not be able to sell the film he gets the credit!! It is a huge story here in CO because the capsule was built here. I have a friend works with NASA on things like this.

We have our pre-school carnival on Saturday. There are tons of games, food, activities, rides, and those bouncy things. We also have a silent auction and each class does a basket and stool.

I was in charge of our class' stool. I painted all day yesterday. The months are the children's fingerprints. I bought Rees' stool 2 years ago, Brantley-Kate's last year. so this year I HAVE to be the high bidder for Davis' stool, no matter the price. They are really cute.

Here are the pics of my finished product. I think it turned out very well.

Denise, those are darling! Our school's carnival is in the Spring, and this gives me wonderful ideas for things for our silent auction. We also have a cake auction that I usually take 4 or 5 cakes for. Thank heaven for Family Fun and their easy cake designs.

Glynis -- that is fabulous news about your DH and his work. The ONLY one to capture it -- WOW. So glad you let us all know of his amazing job!

Each class paints a stool (you have to use the kids fingerprints and names/initials in the design) and a theme basket (cooking, girl, baby, men only, crafts for kids, etc). They also solicit donations from local companies (hotels, restaurants) for the silent auction. It raises a ton of money. I always bid on several things. It's fun!

Denise - great job on the stool -- it is so cute and very creative! You obviously put a lot of thought and hard work in to it!

We also have class projects we bid on at our school's auction. Last year, the lower school classes made toy boxes with either drawings or thumbprints, then got a local toy company to fill them with toys and books. I got the boxes for both boys classes (you should have seen us trying to put those toy boxes in our Tahoe, me in my heels and DH in his suit!) for reasonable prices, and then used the toys out of them for birthday presents the boys are invited to. I actually ended up making money on the deal! Now my boys do expect us to come home with their projects.....ah, the pressure!

Good morning all...

I missed the golden globes...but I enjoyed reading all of your tidbits :teeth:

I am getting ready to head into the city to list a house (i'm a realtor) Normally I'd be excited...but this is a $700K house that was custom built in a neighborhood filled with tiny postage size ranch homes. I am putting my thinking cap (or maybe my mouse ears) on to come up with a marketing strategy. :earsgirl: Then it's back home to bake a cake for my stepson's bday. Talk soon...

How about "Big fish in the small pond"? :scratchin

Johnny Depp is another one that the younger crowd seems to love (my daughter also loves him). I have never really seen the attraction. He can go from really clean cut to bum in a month. I never get it.

LOVE him in pirates - he CREEPS me out in Charlie and the choc factory :rotfl:

Good morning Clare! I couldn't sleep - I'm up with pain from what I hope is just a urinary tract infection. I don't get them often, so I'm not sure if that is all it is. The pain is kicking the crap out of me - so I thought I'd check in to see how everybody is doing.

I missed DDA/Golden Globes - I was on with my college roommate discussing where she was taking me for lunch for my birthday - God I love eating out! :teeth: I hope you all had a good time talking and watching - I hadn't seen most of the movies mentioned, or half the television shows!!

Hey Marti - I missed you this morning as I was posting 10 pages back! Hope you're feeling better you don't want to be ill right before your big trip.

I've just read through the DDA does the Globes posts - I wish I'd been up watching too - although they're probably being shown here tonight or tomorrow. It looked like a fun evening.

I wish I could. They showed the clips on our local station on Sunday. After that, they put the film away under lock and key, until they decide what to do with it.

I'm just hoping it means a pay raise for DH. He works so hard, and they take so much advantage of him. They know his work is head and shoulders above all the other photogs, so they work him really hard. But, he's gotten to do some neat stuff. He's been to Jerusalem twice, he crossed the ocean on a tall sailing ship from Denmark to New York (even climbed up to the top of the tallest mast with his camera in tow), filmed the Salt Lake Olympics, and is scheduled to go to the China Olympics in 2008. He's getting a ton of experiences.

Wow, I'll say! What a neat job ... how exciting, and I definitely agree -- experiences or not, he's still worth more money! ::yes::

Thanks for all your comments this morning...

Unfortunately, the dentist visit didn't go as planned. My #$*(@# teeth are so daggon soft that she started drilling and it literally collapsed on itself (one half anyway). :confused3 Grrrrrrr.....

So now it's an extraction Friday, and eventually a bridge.

All this, and I'm the worlds most OBSESSIVE teeth cleaner.... but it just doesn't matter. I just don't get it. Darn genes. :headache:

So now I'm here, studying the best I can, contemplating how much this is going to cost me this time around :faint:

Congrats to your DH. I don't see anything wrong with a little bragging every now and then.
