I got two postcards and a Christmas card.....thanks for the wedding announcement and it took me a bit to figure out who the other postcard was from..Thanks Elizabeth  !! The Christmas card is from an odd duck from last years PTO board, why do people send cards to people they don't really know???

We had an abbreviated family fun night....I honestly thought the clock said 8:15 but it was only 7:15  oh well, Dylan was driving me nuts!! If the girls ever talked more than a sentence to me like he was talking to his mom all night they would see the light of day next summer!!

Tammi, Elin and Alyssa- glad you like the Nutcracker....I love the ballet, but I don't like the tight pants look on the boys....the modern pieces have men in more "normal" clothes I think!!

I hope you all don't think I was trying to brag about taking Giovanna last night for her Christmas presents....last night was a reminder to me that though we don't have much, there are others who have less and to be thankful for my husband, dork that he is I love him!!

Evening everyone,

Thought I'd stop by for a little pity party before I go and try to find some extra blankets and go to bed. I'm sittin ghere wrapped in a blanket and wearing socks, which I never do at home.

Our heater decided to go out today, so after working another extra long day that was total chaos, I get home to find out that it is going to take approximately $1200.00 plus labor to repair, or $3000.00 plus labor to replace our heater. This when tuition is due, and the "Holidays" are here, sometimes I just feel like throwing in the towel . . . . . . . .

So I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself, when I came across an ornament that a friend and coworker gave to me two years ago. It made me think about her story.

Her name is Donna, she is one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever met. Four years ago right before Christmas, Donna's mother took ill, she passed away the week of Christmas, this was so unexpected it really hit Donna hard. Then the following year on December 17th, Donna's BIL came to the store to see her, she was off that day and was out doing some Christmas shopping. Donna's husband and her BIL had invested in an apartment complex in Gretna, LA. For those of you who might be familiar with Gretna it has some extremely "rough" areas, and the apartments are in one of the bad areas. Donna's DH had an aparment there where he stayed when he was working on the apartments so that he didn't have to travel back and forth. Someone broke into his apartment and bludgeoned him to death with a hammer and then set his body on fire. You can only imagine how totally devastated she was, she came back to work and tried to do her best to go on, we spent many a day crying together in our office. Now her DH was a great guy and could do many things but he was awful about starting projects and not finishing them, leaving their home in pretty rough shape. So Donna had taken part of the life insurance money and had her home redone, it was almost complete and she was so proud of it, she took me by there at lunch just to show it off, it really did look good.

Well, the town we worked in and she lived in was Waveland, MS, which is where the eye of Katrina came ashore. Katrina completely destroyed her home and everything she had that she didn't take with her when she evacuated. It also flooded the store that we worked out so she also lost her job, she was unable to relocate close enough to the store I transferred to so that wasn't an option.

The good news is she has found a new home and has started over once again. I think maybe God made me come across that ornament to show me just how trivial my problems are. I should count my blessings and not my sorrows.

Sorry to rattle on, but I just needed to "talk" with someone.

I knew that you weren't bragging. It's not in you. I knew that you were sharing with us exactly what you said. When things are bad in my life, I try to look outside myself and realize that there are others that have it much worse that are handling it as best they can. That is what Christmas is about to me. Helping and sharing with others that have less!

Our best Christmas was a year that we helped a family that had been in an abuse shelter. It started with me wanting to get rid of some old furniture. I called the abuse shelter and they had someone who had just moved out into their own place, call me back. We dropped off a chair and couch. I saw they were sleeping on the floor, had no kitchen table, etc. We went through the house and got rid of even more - another couch, lamps, Christmas ornaments, a table, etc. My Girl Scout troop adopted them and we gave them a gift certificate to Shopko so they could buy presents. My girls really saw the meaning of Christmas that year!

I don't think you were bragging at all, :goodvibes I think what you did was a very good thing and a reminder to yourself that although you may not have everything you want, who does??? :confused3 you still have a great family and friends and things could always be worse.

Sending :wizard: , prayers, and :grouphug: to you. Always here to listen, sorry you are going through some rough times. Although it is always a fantastic idea to count your blessings sometimes you just need to have that pity party, everyone is entitled to them. I hope things improve for you soon. :wizard: :grouphug:

/
Theresa - I knew you weren't bragging, just sharing something that you did that made you feel happy! :goodvibes

Debbie - A good pity party is useful now and then, as long as it doesn't last very long! I am sorry to hear about your heater! That is the sort of thing that scares me about owning a house! DH grumbles about the money we spend on rent, but if we have major repairs come up we don't have to pay for them. Your friend Donna sounds like an amazing woman. Sometimes I wonder how people manage to get through some of their experiences! :grouphug: to both of you!

Vicki - Good night!

Jennifer - I am excited to look at your pics! That will be first on my list tomorrow!

I am home from work now so I am headed to bed!

Good night, DDA!
