No, you can't hold them back forever! As much as I would have liked to with my girls. If you don't let them go a little at a time, they will eventually break away and won't be ready! I know because I lived it! I was so unprepared for the outside world, it is scary to think about even 25 years later. I could have gotten in so much trouble.
I swore I would not let my kids be so unprepared for the world outside. They saw movies and shows on tv much sooner than some of my friends (and much later than others). However, when I thought they were ready, they watched them with me so that I could explain my feelings on the behavior, etc.
I know that is way past rollerblades! Sorry. Katrina is having a rough time right now and I'm feeling like I want to just protect her from the world but I know that I can't. It hurts to watch her suffering and not just resolve the issue for her when I could. However, she wouldn't be ready for the next issue and it could be a much worse issue and I might not be there to help her through that one.
