I'd have to go back and look, I'm not sure when I was able to book the party when we went last year. I do recall there being some confusion as to how early the reservations opened up. Let me see if I can find anything...

Before I reply individually, I just wanted to say that I just got back from my travel agent's. She called to try the dessert party for us, but had no luck either and told us it was sold out all week. She did say to try asking the concierge while we're there to see if there's a possibility of getting in after a cancellation. I'll keep trying online, call once and a while, and if nothing works then I will indeed ask the concierge when I'm there.

In other news, ignoring the dessert party depression...

I'm so sorry about the dessert party, but hopefully there will be a cancellation; and you'll get in! I hate it when my meticulously detailed plans go awry, so I feel your pain.

"Control the control freak" made me laugh out loud, literally! In my case, however, I usually just let my control freak flag fly!

I thought I was soooo smart getting up 60 days ahead of time. Gah! I know better now, from now on I check the Dis for EVERYTHING lmao.
I generally let my control freak flag fly too, unless it's bringing me too much stress in which case I try with all my might to wake my inner zen loving yogi. Rarely works.

It basically seems to me that people looking to book the party keep their eyes on the party thread and try every day for a month on the Disney ADR system! I haven't heard anyone having any problems booking it before me though. I never thought it would be a problem so I never thought to look.

It's incredibly bizarre that every day is sold out, I completely agree... but it does look that way! Unless maybe Disney's system opened for a few days accidentally and then they closed it back up again so only a few people got reservations? Thanks for the luck!

“And Baby Makes... Three?”​

It was a dark, chilly, and calm night. Johnny was gone to a car race a few towns away and I was all alone. As I sat reading a book, relaxing and rubbing some puppy tummies, I suddenly heard it. Destiny calling.

“Ding ding!” it said.

Hm. Sounds more like my phone than destiny.

“Ding ding!”

Oh. It was my phone.

I grabbed it and checked the display. “Text from Amy” it informed me. Yay!

“Omg did you try reserving it online?”

“Yes, many times”​

“I can get it the night we arrive!
Or the 17th”

“What!?”​

With this I was up and running to the computer. I was typing www.disneyworld.disney.go.com with one hand and texting Amy with the other. As I got the reservation page up my heart was racing, maybe this could really happen! Maybe my luck was coming through already!

So I checked September 16th, party of two.

Nothing.

“Try the 17th!” Amy urged.

I did. Party of two.

Nothing.

A little something I had read in the Dis thread came back to me suddenly. People were having better luck getting party of three than two. Amy was booking a party of three.

Heart racing, fingers trembling, eyes blurry and brain barely functioning I ran a new search.

September 17th. Party of three.
8:20 availability.

Um, what?

So I can get a party of three but not two. How does that even work?

Feeling desperate, I watched as my hand guided the mouse to click the Reserve button. I heard the tell-tale click as my index finger put pressure on the left mouse button. I watched the page change and started to panic as it asked me how many of each age group were in my party. I changed adults from 3 to 2. It gave me a warning that I had to have a total of three. So I watched as my hands, unbidden by my (conscious) brain, added a baby to my party. After all, babies get in free. Confirmed.

And that’s about when my entire brain clicked on.

OMG did I just do that? That’s so... unethical! I should have whistled for Jiminy Cricket!

Am I properly ashamed? Mostly.

Am I going to keep the reservation? Yes, but I am going to keep trying for a party of two so I can cancel this one.

Of course Amy and I texted back and forth the whole time and basically decided that the “Phantom Darling” would be unfortunately sick that day and her awful, heartless parents were going to the dessert party without her. Uhh we’ll get a baby sitter.

So booking this on a day other than the day we planned – how badly does this screw everything up?

As it turns out, not bad at all!

One thing I was worried about initially was having the dessert party on arrival day. Any Canadians here know how bad Air Canada can be for reliability, and I’d hate to have to cancel our dessert party because our flights were late and lose the money too. So having it on the night after is probably a good thing.

Now if we do arrive on time, we can still spend our first evening at MK, but without any real obligation to stay if we’re tired. Also, if we do stay that evening, we can do as MEK did on her TR and watch Wishes from BTMRR!

The only thing I had planned for that day, Monday, was a whole day at AK, a dinner at 5:45 at Yak & Yeti, and then a night of doing whatever we wanted, possibly the evening at DHS for evening EMH. Easy enough. I got a new reservation for Yak & Yeti at 4:00, much better! Won’t be as full for the dessert party! And the evening at DHS? I can just as easily do that our first evening!

When my travel agent was on the phone with Disney, apparently they told her that the 16th was a party night which is why we couldn’t get it that night. That conflicts with what we had as a schedule but I’m wondering if they changed it.

So it looks like it was meant to work out. For now, I’m in. I have a Phantom baby, and I am going to continue to try for a party of two, but I’m in. And with that happy end to the day (and the Muppets playing and the puppies snoring) I am off to bed. Good night all! And remember, dreams come true and pixie dust abounds around Disney!

I also find it hilarious the fact that you have to fake a baby to get the DP like seriously? they can fit 3 people and not 2. oh well, we're both in!

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you! I would love to volunteer at a shelter but I'm too far from one and I would absolutely want to bring them all home! Good for you, I think animal shelters are one of the best ways to volunteer!

Okay all these stories of it being really hot and being able to spend time in the pool is making me very jealous!! Though saying that it's not bad weather here today.

Oh no sweetie on missing out on the Wishes Dessert Party. I had the same thing happen on our trip. Just an idea but have you tried booking for 3 people...2 adults and one child. I learnt that parties of 2 go very quickly. You can just cancel the child nearer the time...that's a secret though so don't be telling everyone lol!

Okay I read on and realised you figured that out!!!
