The Crazy Life of a New Floridian & Ongoing TRs

Don't you know it! I have a hard time now because before I never thought he could catch them. But now I know he can, so whenever he comes in from outside I wonder what he just ate! Oh, and this is even better - I saw him eat his own poop when we first got him! Can you say nasty?!

My dog does that!
OK, the lizard egg? It's the size of the lizard's head! Seriously! And it stays attached for quite a while. One of the workmen picked her up and tossed her outside for me. But it was just the one large egg. Whew! I give those lizard chicks a lot more credit, after seeing the size of that egg! :rotfl2:

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Actually the reason that dogs eat their poop is to cover their tracks ... literally:dog: pug: :dog:

Now you may ask, why do I know this bit of trivia ... well friends of ours are breeders and explained it to us. Mommy dogs do this to protect their pups ... one of those left over instincts from when they were wild and not domesticated sort of like why they circle three times before they lay down (in the wild to flatten the high grass).

So wraps up our science lesson for today:lmao:

Starting to get the outer bands of Hanna here ... just clouds, light winds and a little rain.

Thank you Professor Jen! ;)

I guess that explains why our old pug started doing that when we got a new dog - he was hiding from him!!! Darn that puppy for finding him though! :lmao:

Wow - I didn't know that! That explains a lot. We adopted him from animal control at 5 months old. He only did it when he first came to live with us, but hasn't done it in a while (to my knowledge).

Stay safe!

Glad to share the knowledge:teacher: The things you learn on DIS:rotfl:

Just rain and light winds here ... thank goodness we are out of the tornado watch box for now:eek:

I have never, in all my born days, seen mosquitoes the size of Florida mosquitoes!!! I swear, it's skeeter central down here!

Ally and I ate at the golf clubhouse last night and I overheard a guy telling his golf buddies about a mosquito "soooo big" and then he opened his scorecard and had actually saved the dead skeeter!!! He wanted to show everyone how big it was! :rotfl2:

Jeff smacked one on his leg the other day and blood went everywhere! My neighbors swatted one on their dog and it looked like a massacre!

Then I see on the news last night that people are getting sick because of Fay and all the rain she dumped on us, which is also why we have so many mosquitoes I think.

I was spraying weeds outside yesterday evening, and I had to run for my life for all the skeeters and no-seeums out! I felt I was getting eaten alive!

I haven't seen bugs this bad since we used to spend a couple weeks every summer at my uncle's cabin up in Minnesota - I think I'm still oozing Off out of my pores after the way my mom used to drench us with it!:rotfl2:

Yes, the mosquitos have been really bad! My DD got 4 bites in the span of 15 minutes while playing outside at 3 in the afternoon! She even got one on her eyelid! When she woke up the next morning it was swollen shut! I may be a bad mommy for this, but I've been encouraging her to play inside since then.

We had our neighbors over for dinner Saturday night, and I think the kids might have run outside for maybe 5 minutes, but next thing you know, their little one had what looked like a huge knot on his forehead - but it turned out just to be a mosquito bite that swelled to a quarter size bump!!! It's terrible!

Hey, we might be coming down for a UF game! I love all college football and I'd love to see a game in the Swamp!

Yay! I think you'll have a great time. Do you have a particular game in mind? My sister has a season ticket, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure that you have to be a student to use hers (they swipe ID) or I would see if I could send it your way. DH and I prefer to watch games in the comfort of our own home, so no tickets for us. But going to the Swamp is definitely fun. You should also check out downtown Jacksonville during FL/GA weekend. It's one of the few times a year that the Landing is relevant. :rotfl:

We're thinking about Spurrier Bowl - the South Carolina game. It would have to be the only time I root for South Carolina - I'm more of a Clemson fan from when we lived there.

As for the Landing, I've only been once, and had a great dinner at some seafood restaurant there. We ate well when Jeff's company was paying during our house hunting trips! ;) But otherwise it didn't seem all that - I guess if I were younger and single it might be more fun on the weekends.

Well, it's official! We leave tomorrow around noon!

However, like just about any trip, there have been bumps along the way. First of all, I thought my plans had fallen through for Ally! She's staying with our next door neighbors who have two boys, 9 and 5, and the kids are all great friends. I know she'll be in good hands there, too. Then Friday night she is staying with a friend down the street, but the parents were not returning any of my calls this past weekend, to confirm everything! So I was getting really ticked off - thinking they were blowing us off, after agreeing to let Ally stay Friday night until we get home Saturday evening. Finally they called back and everything is a go. Whew!

Then I got in my car last night to take Ally to gymnastics. It wouldn't start. Dead. So Jeff is getting it into the shop tomorrow and I guess we'll drive his company car to Disney.

Oh, and did I mention my vacuum cleaner died too? When it rains it pours!!!

But I did get a cooler than cool hard floor steam cleaner and it's done wonders for the tile grout!!! Who knew how light the grout was supposed to be? :rotfl2: This thing is amazing!!! Since we couldn't get to gymnastics last ngith, I was a cleaning machine!!! All my tile floors are beautiful! The grout is back to its original color (or at least almost!), and I even cleaned the shower grout! Awesome!!! Cleaning is fun when you see great results like this!!!

So now I'm getting ready for my neighbor to pick me up and we're going for a girls day - getting a mani/pedi before my trip. Ahhhh, relax for a couple of hours before I come home and finish packing....

BTW, what's up with the Jags? I get the family shirts and they can't win!!!!

Hi! I was wondering where you've been! Sorry about your car and vacuum cleaner. But :cool1: yay:cool1: for leaving tomorrow!!! I hope you have a fantastic time. It looks like you'll have some pretty good weather. I think I heard a cool front is coming, though I don't know how far south it will extend.

Yes, I may have to change my screen name! :lmao: The Jaguars have been looking bad. Their offensive line has been obliterated and I think we're missing our old defensive coordinator. Oh well. It was a tough weekend for Ohio State, too.

Wow, that time already. Hope you have a great trip!

Isn't it crazy how everything seems to fall apart right before a trip.

What type of steam cleaner did you purchase? I should probably do that. The problem with have a boy, they can't hit the toilet to save their life!

Oh, and been meaning to tell you. Had my first encounter with a snake. Went to take the garbage out last week and about stepped on one barefoot :scared1: ! It was just a baby, but it was in the driveway curled up at the garage door.

Then Saturday night, when I shut the patio door, a lizard ran in! Luckily it ran right back out, but not before I screamed bloody murder. Now, why is it I can walk right up to them outside, but the thought of one in the house freaks me out!!!

Yikes! Snakes are scary! Even baby ones :)

I've been to the Philippines and there are always lizards inside. Most places don't have air conditioning, so they leave doors and windows open. You'll usually see the lizards high on the walls. I was always so scared to go to sleep because I was afraid one would get in bed with me.

Thanks for the reminder....:rolleyes1

Accuweather shows mid-upper 80's in Orlando. I can deal with that! Although it looks like we'll have daily rain. But I can deal with that, too. After all, this is not going to be a commanod trip. We're just gonna relax and stroll. Probably only hit Epcot, and HS and AK each for just our favorite attractions.

I got the SteamFast steam cleaner.

LOVE IT!!! When I cleaned the bathroom floor last night, I used the small brush attachment that I used for the grout, and got right around the toilet base - beautiful!!! My only complaint is that I had to refill it 3 times to do our kitchen, foyer, and one bathroom. But I was doing heavy duty cleaning, so probably for everyday cleaning I could get all that done with one fill. http://www.topinnovations.com/products/steamfast/cleaner/SF-275/SF-275.html

I'm the same way!!! And even outside, I'm okay if I see them, I can walk right by, no big deal. But if I get surprised by one you'd think it was a dinosaur!!! Snakes on the other hand. NO WAY!!! :scared1:

I worry about that, too! One night a couple of weeks ago, a little tree frog hopped into the laundry room from the garage. Well, I couldn't find him. So I was convinced I'd wake up with him on my forehead or something! And because our bedroom faces out to the woods, every night when we go to sleep, the moon shines through those windows and there are frogs plastered all over it. Really gross. I mean, frogs are ugly enough from the top, but when you see them from underneath it's REALLY bad!!!

Don't forget to take pictures of EVERYTHING: food, alcohol, rides, restaurants, the room, characters, etc.

You just wanted to use a new smiley!!! ;)

And yes, I already took the oath! Food porn!!!!! I'll post it all on Sunday or Monday!!!

Wishing you a snake-free and lizard-free WDW trip Kara:lmao: ... and I hope your Buckeyes have better luck that they did against USC:scared1:

Interesting on the steam cleaner ... I have been debating one for a while. I have hard wood floors throughout the first floor (including the kitchen which was new to this Northerner who wanted tile in the kitchen). Can you use it on hard wood?

Heck it might be worth the investment just to do the tile in the three bathrooms and the laundry room:faint:

Have a great trip!! Please have a Grand Mariner Slushie in France for me.

:rotfl: I'm sorry, but that is just hilarious. You have this beautiful new home and you go to bed looking at the belly of frogs. Isn't nature funny?

Oh, after seeing the snake, I went in the office to see what it was. I kept feeling things crawling all over my legs, nothing there but didn't keep me from slapping myself the rest of the evening.

Have a great trip!
