The Crazy Life of a New Floridian & Ongoing TRs

Wishing you a snake-free and lizard-free WDW trip Kara:lmao: ... and I hope your Buckeyes have better luck that they did against USC:scared1:

Interesting on the steam cleaner ... I have been debating one for a while. I have hard wood floors throughout the first floor (including the kitchen which was new to this Northerner who wanted tile in the kitchen). Can you use it on hard wood?

Heck it might be worth the investment just to do the tile in the three bathrooms and the laundry room:faint:

Have a great trip!! Please have a Grand Mariner Slushie in France for me.

I wish I would have had this steamer for my house in SC - I had BEAUTIFUL hardwoods on the entire first floor - it uses no chemicals, just steam, so I'm sure it would work great! I wasn't so sure about hardwoods in my kitchen there, but after making the switch to tile, I prefer the hardwoods. They are "softer" than the tile, so plates and glasses actually bounced, or so it seemed. And my legs didn't get as tired from standing in there a lot.

:rotfl: I'm sorry, but that is just hilarious. You have this beautiful new home and you go to bed looking at the belly of frogs. Isn't nature funny?

Oh, after seeing the snake, I went in the office to see what it was. I kept feeling things crawling all over my legs, nothing there but didn't keep me from slapping myself the rest of the evening.

Have a great trip!

OK, you went into the office to look at the snake? As in look at it out the window? Or look it up online? Cause I can't look at snakes online. I freak out when they are that big right on my screen.

Oh, and guess what's back? The love bugs!!! They are all over now! Hope they aren't too bad at Disney. They are just really annoying.

You just wanted to use a new smiley!!! ;)

And yes, I already took the oath! Food porn!!!!! I'll post it all on Sunday or Monday!!!

And don't forget the alcohol porn! (god, Jeff is really going to hate me - and he hasn't even met me yet!:rotfl: )

I do agree that things bounce better on the hardwood than tile floor ... although since we put in new granite counters last year everything seems to be drawn to the counters instead of the floor ... and you know what that means ... SMASH:rolleyes:

So what are love bugs ... I mean I know who Herbie is ... but I hear all these reports about love bugs and don't have a clue.

Oops, looked at them on the internet. The DH said he thought it was a copperhead, as he watches it slither away!:scared1: So, I wanted to make sure it wasn't poisonous, not sure what it was, but per the internet it wasn't a poisonous one. I don't like looking at them either, but I had to find out what it was, or just maybe prove DH was wrong.

Well, it's official! We leave tomorrow around noon!

Have a great time! :cool1:

But I did get a cooler than cool hard floor steam cleaner and it's done wonders for the tile grout!!!
I'm jealous! How sad is that? We have tile throughout the house except our bedroom and you're right, it's never really clean.

I worry about that, too! One night a couple of weeks ago, a little tree frog hopped into the laundry room from the garage.

I found a dead baby frog in the bedroom this morning. Apparently the cat was enjoying himself.

Kara! I have enjoyed your Florida Life reports so much, I forgot this started out as a PTR! Have a great time and bring us back some pics!

 I so feel your pain. Our goldens retrieved baby squirrels and brought them to me to share with me:faint:

"Snakes ... why did it have to be snakes ..." gotta love Indy Jones!

I know I'm late to the game catching up after you left, but you know...

Ummmm......and the OTHER one is going to buy you a Grey Goose slushie in Epcot! Now -- how fun is THAT?!;)
I still am wanting to be there THIS fall. :sad2:

I updated my Hurricane Kit this weekend - I added some X-Fusion liquor, triple sec, you know.... the essentials!!! :rotfl2:
:rotfl2: :thumbsup2

Jeff is convinced that the Discovery channel never leaves the US when they film. They may say, "here we are deep in the Amazon," but Jeff thinks they're just somewhere in Florida!!! :rotfl2:

Isn't it funny how you can plan and plan and think the trip will never get here, and before you know it, you're already home and in mourning?

Well, that's where I'm at now. Even though I know I'm heading back in 2 months with Ally, it still hurts to leave every time. And Jeff felt the same. He even turned around and waved as we left our room on our last morning, then again when we pulled out of the parking lot at DTD to get on the road home. Yes, he waved and said goodbye to WDW again.

But enough about how our trip ended, how about the way it began???

Last Wednesday, he pulled up around 12:30pm, we loaded up the car really quick. Not much to pack this time, just one suitcase, and my laptop. Really! I only packed 4 outfits for 3 days. I was very proud of myself.

We dropped Bucky off at the doggy hotel and were on I-295 by 1pm. Once we got on I-95, Jeff decides to make a pit stop at the outlet malls in St Augustine. Wait a second, nobody told me about this unplanned stop! My head was spinning, how could we get checked in by 4pm with this stop thrown in?

So we hop out and he drags me into the Disney Store outlet. Yeah, dragged me. Right. I was so excited when I knew where we were headed! But he wanted to buy.... PINS. :confused3 OK, what is up with that?

Now Ally got a pin lanyard in 2006, and she takes it every trip and loves to trade, but why is Jeff buying all the $2.99 pins he can find AND a lanyard for himself??? Finally he tells me that he thinks it would be fun if WE start our own pin collection, and that will be something we can all do as a family. OK, I'm in. Now let's get back in the car and GOOOOOO!

Finally on the road again. Once I saw the exit for I-4 to Orlando, I saw the skies darken, and if there's one thing I hate, it's driving in thunderstorms. And snakes. And lizards. But I can only hope that they aren't in the car with us for this trip.

So just as soon as we got on I-4, the skies opened up, lightning everywhere, Jeff slowed to about 35, along with everyone else, as the winds were whipping, couldn't see a thing, and I kept my face buried in the new pins we got. Cause I believe that if I can't SEE the storm, then it's not really happening.... :rolleyes1

Before too long, I see the Seminole Town Center to my left, and that tells me that we're in Orlando. For anyone who drives to Disney from the east coast, you know what I mean. The first big mall in Orlando. Only 30 minutes to go!!!

Then I get a text from a DIS bud of mine who was flying in the same day from Chicago. We'll call her Debbie, well, cause that's her name!!! Debbie texts me that they were boarding the plane when they announced that there were no pilots!!! :scared1: I think she was scheduled to arrive around 5:30 and I found out later that they didn't get in until 11pm that night. I felt so bad for her, especially knowing that I was so close....

So to cheer her up, I took a pic of the WDW entrance arch from my phone and sent it to her.....

By now Jeff and I are so excited we both need to stop to..... well, pee! But we were so close that we drove in to our new resort. Yacht Club!

Before I begin posting pics, and believe me, I have a TON to post here, let me just say that Yacht Club is now our absolute FAVORITE resort!!! You'll see why.

The lobby...

So while Jeff parked the car - NOT paying $10/day for valet parking when I know we won't touch the car again until we leave! I got us checked in and we were upgraded to a king room, with a garden view. Being the cheapskate I am, I booked a standard view, and hoped that we'd be upgraded like we have EVERY single time before!!!

So on to our room...

And our nice little first floor view....

Overlooking the quiet pool.

And thankfully we were in a corner. Which saved us even more steps to our room. As it was, we were sooooo far from the lobby, which put us even FURTHER from the Marketplace, which is the little food court shared by both YC and BC.

Usually we snuck out the nearest door and just wandered along the boardwalk each morning, instead of getting lost in the endless corridors....

And yes, we did get lost a couple of times!!!! I remember when we stayed at BW 10 years ago, we were a long way from the lobby. But this seemed so much further. Maybe it's because we are 10 years older!!!! But a couple of times when we were the only ones in the hallway (and that was a LOT since the crowds were very low this trip!!!), I felt like I was in the Shining, and I was waiting for "Heeeeeere's Johnny!" and Jack Nicolson to pop out.

Except this wasn't a scary hotel. And it wasn't snowing outside. And Scatman Crothers didn't come to save us on a snowplow. But aside from that, it was kinda creepy being so empty.

But it is a BEAUTIFUL resort and I'm so excited to come back soon!

More pics of the resort, as well as our first day at AK coming up next!!!!!!

Yay!! You started!!! YC looks beautiful- I've never stayed there, only the BC- it's all a great resort, though. Can't wait for more- anxiously awaiting the food porn!!:surfweb:

I am so excited to read your report! A short weekend trip alone with DH to WDW would be a dream come true for me!! I will have to live vicariously through you for now!

Great start Kara, and welcome home! I love the lobby at YC! It reminds me of the movie "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour - one of my fav chick flicks! The CM in uniform helps with the whole theme!

Once we got checked in, we traipsed down hall after hall to our room (I already mentioned this, didn't I???), dropped our bag off, made sure I had the camera and anything I thought I might need that night, including rain ponchos cause it was lookin mighty dark, and off we went to catch a bus to DTD!

By now it's about 4:30pm, and our ADR at Raglan Road isn't until 7, so we did what any red-blooded American does at DTD - we went to World of Disney!!!

DTD-WoD-1.jpg

And yes, I forgot all about stupid Stitch.... and got spit upon! Or maybe that was rain? Not sure. But I know I got wet.

Jeff cracks me up whenever we go shopping in Disney. He finds stuff, then says, "don't get it now, you know we'll be back." And then we have to make a separate trip back to wherever we saw something, because we should have bought it in the first place!!!!

So I didn't listen to him this time. I found a stuffed Chip n Dale that I was getting for a friend, plus a pin book, and had both shipped back to the resort. Oh, and since when do the deluxe resorts NOT deliver your packages to your room??? I nearly forgot to get this package because the last time we stayed at a deluxe, my bags were always waiting on the bed when we got in.

Anywho.... after WoD, we headed over to Pin Traders, cause we're rootin tootin pin traders now! Jeff was on the hunt for the Disneyana pin book, that showed all the pins over the years. No luck. So we went back to WoD and asked 4 different people. Each person told us, "check with the information desk." Seriously. I was so disappointed in the Disney service at this point. Or lack thereof.

And the info desk was busy helping someone who had a serious problem communicating, so we headed out on our own.

By now we were getting hungry, and it was only about 5:30, so we headed off toward Raglan Road to see if they could seat us early. And as luck would have it, they were nearly empty!!!

DTD-RaglandRoad-1.jpg

First impression was that this looked like a fun place to eat. Except for the hostess. Not sure what was up with her, but we had a serious communication breakdown. To the point that I finally just nodded at whatever she said. I think I heard something about "that's just one of the many Gaelic phrases they teach us." But I couldn't tell you what that phrase was.....

First off, our waiter Pedro was there in a skinny minute. Pedro. Hmmm, doesn't sound very Irish to me. But who cares? He was mighty fine eye candy for the Mrs!

DTD-RaglanRoad-JeffandPedro-1.jpg

Jeff thought I was taking a stupid picture of him, but it's actually Pedro in the background!!!! :rotfl2: Silly husband. You'd think after 11 years he'd have me figured out by now. Besides, as I always say, "You can always look at the menu, as long as you don't order." And I was checking out that menu....

Speaking of the menu..... first things first. DRINKS!!!!

I ordered some beer flight. Couldn't tell you what was on it. But it was 4 4oz beers served on a paddle. Hmmm....

DTD-RaglanRoad-Karasbeerflight.jpg

Jeff got the same, only different. He actually chose his beers, to try only those he had never had before.

DTD-RaglanRoad-Jeffsbeerflight-1.jpg

Once we got our drinks, I ran off to get some pics of the place.

The service bar, right near our table (convenient... :rolleyes1 )...

When I got back to the table, sweet Pedro had brought us some yummy bread with a sweet dipping sauce.

DTD-RaglanRoadbreak.jpg

Whenever I try a new restaurant, I almost always get the servers recommendation and go with that. So I asked sweet Pedro which he would recommend between the Shepherd's Pie, Fish n Chips, or Salmon. He steered me toward the Shepherd's Pie or Fish n Chips, and I opted for the latter. Sweet Pedro didn't lie. It was awesome Fish n Chips!!!

DTD-RaglanRoadfishnchips.jpg

Jeff was torn between a couple of items, but opted for the It Ain't Bleedin' Chowder. I had read some rave reviews on the DIS and told him about it - and he still ordered it!

DTD-RaglanRoad-ItAintBleedinChow-1.jpg

I wish I would have ordered that too! I can sum it up in 3 words... Well, actually 2 numbers and 1 word. 2 DIE 4!!! Very creamy, and the seafood was all very tender.

So far so good. And Jeff did NOT want to eat here! OK, sweet Pedro, what's for dessert?

He recommended Ger's Bread and Butter Pudding, which I of course ordered it. Cause sweet Pedro told me to. And again, sweet Pedro did not lie! 2 numbers and 1 word again!!! 2 DIE 4!

DTD-RaglanRoadGersbreadandbutterpud.jpg

The little pitchers had a white creamy sweet sauce in one, and a butterscotch in the other. Not a huge butterscotch fan, so I only used a little of that, but just dumped in the other sauce! OH.... MY.... GOD!!!! Heaven!

Jeff got the Sticky Toffee Pudding, but I didn't care for it. After the sickening sweetness of my dessert, his tasted burnt to me. But he liked it.

DTD-RaglanRoadstickytoffeepuddin-1.jpg

No problems with the check (unlike our trip back in May when nearly every server had problems with the DDP!), and Pedro was well taken care of.

All in all, really good food, not "fine" dining, but fun food with good service, and good food. Actually a really good selection too, and we were concerned that Ireland is not exactly known for their delectable dishes, but there were several things on the menu that I know I would have liked.... if Pedro would have recommended them.

Once we left Raglan Road, we headed out toward Pleasure Island and Westside, because Jeff was convinced he had never been to Westside. AND Pleasure Island will no longer be Pleasure Island this time next week. So we wanted to head that way, just to say we were there at the end.

Finally grabbed a bus and headed back to the resort. But instead of getting off at YC, we got off at the Swanolphin, or as I like to call it the Swan and Mahi Mahi :rotfl2: ! C'mon, it's a dolphin fish, not a Flipper dolphin on the rooftop! So it's the Mahi Mahi hotel!

From there, we navigated our way over to the Boardwalk to wander around, watch some performers, grab a drink at Big River, and another one at the Bellevue Room in the BW. Nice evening, but we were in bed by 9:30! Woo hoo! Party animals are we!!!

On the way around the boardwalk, I was experimenting with the different settings on my camera.... and still haven't found the right night time setting! But here's some pics of one of my favorite places in all of Disney!

Off to bed.... next up Animal Kingdom, and the best lunch in all of WDW!!!!
