Can you tell me what you think the pros and cons of this resort are? It looks pretty cool and the location sounds fabulous :smooth:

Pro's to the CR are :

It's on the Monorail line - convienient to MK,Epcot and the other MK resorts on the Monorail line (also very easy for those with strollers as you don't need to fold them up to board like on the buses).

You can also walk to the MK.

You can take a boat to WL, Ft. Wilderness campground and MK.

Rooms are larger than at many of the resorts including the other deluxe resorts - can accommodate 5 (2 queen beds & a day bed).

Great resturaunts in this resort - including Chef Mickey's & the California grill.

If in the tower rooms - fireworks view if facing MK

Electrical water pagent can be seen from this resort.

The Cons :

CR is not a favorite for some with the theming.

Rates can be quite expensive (but you can also get great discounts with AP rates from www.mousesavers.com)

Bus service is shared with the GF and the Poly and can be quite crowded at times. An inconvienience for those who plan on spending more time at MGM or waterparks than at the MK.

I'm sure there are probably more cons but for the most part, those who are fans of the CR have enjoyed it and recommend it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Contemporary... that being said, here is my list of pros and cons:

Pros:
convenience, with great selection of transportation to many places!
monorail
walking distance to and from the MK
good bus service
great views
large rooms
wonderful bathrooms
bright, energetic colors
Mickey's resort (an original)
great full service restaurant with great view
nice pools
large selection of water craft rental
great coffee bar
great pin kiosk
great gift shops
one of the least expensive of the deluxe resorts
On site child care after 5 pm
Awesome game room
Good counter service
Good room service
Nice playground
Good pool bar and snackshop

Cons:
Overpriced Steak house
Outer Rim Bar too smokey

We love the Contemporary, and given the budget, would not hesitate to stay there every time!

This is very picky .. and my family loved the Contemporary Resort. And .. we stayed in the towers and I am not a big fan of heights. We were on the 11th (or so) floor and had a beautiful view of the Magic Kingdom (which I didn't enjoy because of the heights thing again) ... and due to the structure of the building, I experienced the same uncomfortable-feeling on the inside of the resort, because right outside our room door there was another drop. Does that even make sense? I guess for me the bottom line is, if you don't like heights, the upper rooms in the tower are not for you. Of course this is a selling point for most others.

That being said, there are other rooms that aren't high up. Being off the monorail is wonderful. and convenient. Another benefit in our room was that there were 2 bathroom sink areas (one inside the bathroom with the shower and another inside the room with the toilet) .. so more than one person could get ready.

We stayed in the Contemporary Towers on our first trip in 2001 and absolutely loved it. There's nothing like seeing the MK outside our window and having the monorail run through the hotel. The kids--and my wife and I--were in awe of it all.

Last time I stayed there was Nov 2001. The boat to MK had been discontinued. Have they reinstated it Scoootch?

Does anyone know where I can find a picture of the rooms at the Contemporary? How far from the main hotel is the Wing Section? Are the rooms the same in the Tower and the Wing?

We love the Contemporary for most of the reasons stated above. It's wonderful being able to walk to the MK and it's especially nice to be able to walk from the MK to your resort after fireworks and parades. It beat waiting for the monorail or boats. We like Chef Mickey's and we love the breakfast at the Concourse Steakhouse. The pools are nice and the arcade is huge. We like to take the boat over to Wilderness Lodge to check it out and over to Ft. Wilderness to have dinner at Trails End Buffet. We have only stayed in the tower and have had a MK view every time. The view is awesome, especially at night. You can watch the castle change colors and you can see space mountain, astro orbiter, etc. You can watch the boats and ferries and you can see the GF and Polynesian. We stayed at the GF in September and although we really did enjoy it there, we missed the Contemporary for the view and walk to MK. Another thing we enjoyed was coming out of our room and hearing the singing and music from Chef Mickey's. Please note, we didn't hear any noise from the concourse once we were in our room. We're going back in May and my family and I can't wait!

We loved the Contemporary. The only con I can think of is the pool is just so-so. But my kids still loved it. I don't understand the argument about the themeing not being Disney-like. The monorail runs through it for crying out loud, how much more Disney do you need??!! The rooms are huge, loved the bathrooms. The decor looks loud from the pictures but it all works nicely. Have fun.

Can they guarantee a MK view if you stay in the Tower?

We also love the Contemporary-you just can't beat the location- there is nothing like walking to the MK:D It's also great at park closing time at MK if the lines look to long at the monorail you can just walk:D All 3 of my kids (16, 13, and 10 ) loved the pool, and Chef Mickey's is one of our favorite breakfast restaurants. We stayed in the North Garden Wing last year, and will be staying in the tower this July:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Kteacher:

Noticed you stayed in the North Wing at the Contemporary. How far from the main tower are the two wings? Is it a big walk?

SGF- We had a 1st floor room facing the parking lot last April. It was about a 2 minute walk to the tower. Can't tell you how much we loved the location of the CR- It was so much fun reading all the bricks in the walkway to the MK. The CR shares a bus route with GF and the Poly. Not sure if it's changed, but the CR was always the first resort stop for the buses-buses were always empty when we got on, but were sometimes full by the time they got to GF or Poly. HTH:D

Its a small detail, but we love the CR talking elevators!

We LOVE everything about the CR...and do not have ANY cons to list! eeyore0062 did a FABULOUS job of listing in detail all the positive things about this wonderful resort. The coffee bar is heavenly, the game room is the BEST on property, the shopping, the restaurants, the rooms, the staff...everything is TOP RATE! We are currently reserved in a 1 BR suite on the 14th floor for five eves this summer (After Disney's VERO beach, before the WDW Dolphin)...and can HARDLY WAIT!!! We too, are forever in "AWE" of the "Grand 'OLE King" of all WDW accomodations! ;)

It's so great reading all these wonderful accolades about the Contemporary. I have only ridden the Monorail thru it, and of course looked at tons of pic on the web. But I am very much looking forward to being there in 8 days! I think the biggest plus, besides the monorail, is being able to walk to the MK. With two little boys, I am sure that will be the park we will be going to the most. :jester:
