I posted this on another board after I was told there were some unhappy campers that came to the meet out there, and I thought I'd share here as well.

Allow me to introduce myself My name is Ed I'm one of the hosts of the Contemporary pin meet sorry to say I don't post much on this board due to a time restrictions.

As to the pin meet at the Contemporary we have helped Kathryn build it up from a few people to few hundred, but we had lots of help let me name them now so you know whom to look for.

Kathryn pin ambassador to the kingdom, keeper of the pins, loyal ruler of the 4th floor, known only to a few as that there lady with the pin vest on, and a true friend.

Malcolm my son-in-law started pin collecting back in the early 1800's got me hooked and ended my normal life, as I knew it. (He'll get his he married my daughter nuf said)

Lauri my daughter, my pride and joy, also hooked on pins married Malcolm why? for his pins of course.

Crystal first born granddaughter, and my favorite a stunning blond, and actress she will be president someday count on it, takes after me.

Heather second born granddaughter, and my favorite a stunning brunette, and actress she will win the gold in the 2006 winter sports, takes after me.

Brooke third born granddaughter, and my favorite a stunning mini blonde, and just a cute kid, right now she wants to be a pokeymon, takes after her grandmother.

Donna the wife, love of my life will never leave my side… why? I have all the pins that's why.

And me Ed techno weenie imagineer, inventor of that little thing that held your 45 records in place as well as that blued handled widget that's sits in kitchen drawer that serves no purpose what so ever.

The reason I'm saying this is because of what two people wrote on another board, it seems they did not have a good time at the meet. Kids I'm so sorry, you see my job is PR no not Puerto Rican, its just to make sure people have a good time, I like pins they're okay, but I love the talking to and meeting people the most, as does my family.

Kathryn is the hostess and is so busy at time she forgets her, pins, cell phone, why she even came out of the bathroom once without (well lets just not go there)

To the two of you and anybody that did not have a good time, my sincerest apologies, and a personal invitation to come back and be my guest… I will introduce you to everybody, and stay by your side help you trade, get you a front seat ride on the monorail any thing you'll little ole heart desires, I have been known to do just about anything to make a fellow pin trader smile (no Figgy not that you just hush now, only legal stuff) I have gone on rides with them, taken them to places in the park they would never have gone, or seen, picked them up at resorts and driven to the meet, even helped them when they left and got way lost, I'm just a cell phone call away.

This Saturday I'll probably be the only male on Disney property wearing a blond wig, a tiara, and a blue boa, along with over 25 other women known as the boa brigade and Raul (hey it was a double dare I couldn't say no now could I) It will be a hoot, and I'll post pictures on Sunday after I reassure my manly manhood by going to a tractor pull with the boys. (What do think wear the tiara to the pull or no)

My hope is to never let anybody feel not welcomed at the meet, if you two will take me up on my offer, I'll see to it you have a pleasant experience at the pin meet.

Now how do you find all these neat people I mentioned, My wife is always by my side, a true companion always wants to stand next to my pin bag hmmmm.

My Kid and grandkids are in the back on the floor, they like it back there its quiet and they can hear themselves think. (It does get loud in there sometimes)

Me I'm there… just ask for Ed, or as they call me Raul (long story) most likely I'll have a grandkid attached to me, but they come off with water.

So as I say on the other boards come to the Contemporary you'll be glad you did it's the gosh dandiest place on the planet to trade (A shameless plug)

Disclaimer

The people described in this post are real a bit nutty but real. Zero percent down, zero interest, zero payment was a lie so big it ate New York city, my granddaughters are my favorite… what is MSRP huh huh it's a salesperson code word isn't it. My pins on my lanyard are cloned from Scoops pin seminars. The stories are real the names were changed to protect the innocent.

Ed,
My DH & I met you and the happy crew of regulars at the Contemporary Meet in November. I can only speak for us, but we had a great time! You all volunteer your time to provide a safe and friendly haven for pin traders, especially kids.
Don't take it too personally if a few people didn't have a good time at the pin meet. You know, I bet there are occasionally some people who leave WDW who perhaps didn't "have a good time" and find something to complain about. That's just the way it is. You can't be everything to everybody, no matter how hard you try.
However, I hope those who were unhappy do take you up on your kind and generous offer.
Thanks for all you and the rest of the crew do for pin traders at the Contemporary and on these boards!
Happy Trading!
Penny

I have had the pleasure of attending the Friday pin meet at the Contemporary several times now and I can only say good things.

Kathryn, Ed, and many others go out of their way to insure that the people have a good time. They are so welcoming and will make sure that beginner traders are introduced and trading in a short period of time.

This meet is special in that beginners and children have nothing to fear....there IS someone to trade with at this meet. There is no need to feel intimidated by the large crowd.....just jump right in!

I am not a local...I live in NYC but each time I go donw and attend this meet I immediately feel like I am part of the family.

I can't wait until the next one I am able to get to!!!!!

Linda

Hey Ed, I think it was me that was complaining about the Contemporary meet. I sat around the house all night last night waiting and waiting for a ride to the Contemporary and you never showed up! What is the deal with that? I had my lanyard on, my pin bag packed and by my side, I even had Trina bake some cookies. At first I stood by the front window like a puppy waiting for the Kibbles and Bits salesman but after a few hours, I slowly saw my confidence deplete when I finally figured out I had been stood up like a mannequin in a Victoria's Secret window. Every week it is the same thing. I read your posts about how cool the Contemporary meet is and how much fun you guys have. Every Thursday night I load my lanyard and get my pin book in order. I even set aside a special pin just to trade with you and with Donna. By Friday mid-day I can barely contain my excitement waiting for my ride to go to the magical Friday Night Meet. I can still remember all the fun we had in the pouring rain during the Where in the World is Mean Laureen and Arizona Jeff Mini-meet when we crashed Kathryn's Contemporary gig that Friday night. All I am asking is to relive the fun I had that night. This time maybe I will even trade a pin. Right now I am disappointed at being left out but by next Friday I will once again be ready and waiting for my ride.

Jeff

Hey Jeff... you did trade a pin when we crashed the Contemporary meet! Remember I took your book and went around trading pins for you? I think it was SuzanneB that was your very first trade there!

Lauri my daughter, my pride and joy, also hooked on pins married Malcolm why? for his pins of course.

Umm.. This is sweet but my husband's name is Matthew... oh, and Dad? Can you send me some money? ;) ;) ;)

Sorry Lauri!

That little mix up would be because Someone (Cough!Raul!Cough!) spelled his dear daughter's name wrong. It's "Lauree". But, then again, Raul has been adopting family members for some time now, and I think, if you ask him nicely, he would be glad to add you! After all, I think he's adopted a cousin in samalia, so you should be no problem.

Also, for all those little firties out there (has anybody else watched them before? They're so cute!) I'm the 2nd brunette granddaughter ole Raul spoke of.

And Raul, by the way, you left some things out in your little discriptions there. For instance, what happened to that Canadian Boy I heard so much about?

always at the front door (train station) when my ship comes in (at the port). Yes everyone, please do come by stop by. Look for those of us who are as eager to assist you in making a trade and being happy as you all are of being a part of the "magic". We have found a few people have adopted our meets as trading buddies that do not match our philosophy. At least many of us are here to help shield you if you so wish.

Guess I only have this to say. No I guess I can't say that either. Well if you are uncomfortable, with the approach of someone you have never seen or met or heard of before, that may be the time to close your book and say "I'll be back with you. I just remembered I want to meet Kathry or Ed or Donna". A perfectly proper way to excuse yourself and you didn't even say "NO". and you have a great reason for "Not rgiht now". Some of us don't need that kind of help, but each week I am learning more and more personality types. Some folks just need a comfortable way of 'not saying no' but meaning No.

Come on over everyone. Have fun. I, for one will be doing MUCH less trading on Friday and Saturday nights.

I have never been to a Friday or Saturday night Kathryn/Raul/Donna meet, but hopefully I will someday. I'm thinking of Raul's opening comment in this thread - "I posted this on another board after I was told there were some unhappy campers that came to the meet out there, and I thought I'd share here as well. " You know what? It is very simple - if someone does not like your meet for whatever reason, then they don't have to show up! I hope you all continue to have fun & enjoy your Friday & Saturday evenings (nights, next mornings ...)!

Hi Ed (aka Raul),

Finally went to the Contemporary Pin meet on Friday and met you. Thank you for the embarrassing greeting! Saw you again while you were at Tink's Store buying pins - I think!

Just want to thank you for welcoming me and although I couldn't stay long (had my two small children with me and my DH which isn't into pin trading) I still managed to pickup two pins I had wanted for a while.

I didn't get to meet Kathryn she was far too busy - will definitely introduce myself when I return in March.

Thanks again!
