THE Conservative Thread: Country First!

Just wanted to share a little story with you guys. This morning I was a keynote speaker at a 9/11 breakfast meeting. While I was getting ready - my son came into my room with his Marine Corp uniform on (some of you have seen his picture :))

He always wears his uniform to school on 9/11. He will be 8 on Nov. 1st. He is in second grade. When I walked him to his class this morning - I ended up talking to his teacher out in the hallway for a few minutes about nothing particular. After my DS hung his bookbag up - he came out in the hallway where we were and asked his teacher if he could talk to the class about 9/11.
I think she was initially nervous about how detailed he might get - not knowing how much the other parents want their children knowing. So she asked my DS - "what would you like to say?" My DS answered "I would just like to say to our class that 7 years ago our country was attacked by terrorists. They flew planes into the WTC, the Pentagon, and a field in PA. Today I'm wearing this uniform because I believe that freedom is worth fighting for".

I'm not ashamed to say I bawled my eyes out on the way back to my car. He makes me so darn proud!

Sorry about the proud mom brag - I just had to share!

That's a great story transparant.:thumbsup2 You've got me tearing up at my computer at work.:sad1: You should be very proud of him! Most kids that age don't have a clue as to what happened on 9/11.

My DD8 is well aware too. She also watched the DNC and RNC with us too, she loves politics and likes to stay informed on the issues. (I see the student council in her not too distant future. ;) )

Are you open to an arranged marriage? ;) :rotfl:

my son at age 11 drew this picture from the above picture. It was for a national contest about "every child has a voice" he chose this picture to show that he has a voice even though he is young about what happened on 9/11...he won a award for it.

Holy cow! What an amazing drawing! Your child has a talent in art, that is for sure. Beautiful.

Kristine

we do have it framed...we bring it out every year on 9/11...it is out in our family room today. The copy of his picture does it no justice. The picture is full of vibrant colors that pop out at you when you look at it. It is very faded in this copy.

His Middle school also puts it out. He brought it in to school for his History class in 7th grade and the teacher asked for a copy to post it up. It is posted in his Art class...History class and the school office. But he did it when in 5th grade in Elementary school.

He is very proud of it. He has won other awards for other art also....he is in High school now and has much improved on his skill.

 Welcome. I am not a big debater, but it is nice being able to come here and share ideas and observations-like the really irritating one below:

On a sad note, it seems that the theme "We will never forget" only applies to Fox news. From what I can tell, NONE of the major networks are covering any of the 9/11 memorial services. I guess Regis and Kelly and the Today show are much more important.x

Today I found out that a fellow DISer on another thread I am very active on, is a survivor of 9/11. I still cry when I think of what happened. And I am so grateful that there were so many survivors.

Well, the media and Democrats have been trying to forget 9/11 for the last 7 years.......to their detriment.

Me and mine will never forget. :thumbsup2

Our 9/11 remembrances here in Houston have been curtailed due to the impending arrival of Ike. But, this does not mean it is any less important to us.

Keep your thoughts and prayers centered on those in the storm surge area and those displaced by it. I think this storm is going to hit us hard in Houston Metro. We have been working the last 24hrs continuous with friends, neighbors & local first providers up here on the North side to make sure we know who is staying and who needs help. My 4-Wheeler is gassed up, chainsaw is ready, generator ready & beer will be going on ice at 6pm (cognac is contingency). ;) We got all the Cub Scouts together last night and traded addresses and such.

We are ready for this storm.

While our power is out, could somebody please tell the National Media that Texans are not "fleeing" this storm. Texans don't "flee" anything. We are simply moving to more defensible ground. We will be back. :)

:thumbsup2 Come on back safe and we'll have cognac and cigars.

Stay safe Mr Man! Our corporate headquarters is in Houston - I hope y'all don't get hit too hard.

I really love this thread.
Conservatives may be opinionated, bigoted, pig headed (lipstick and all) right-wing-nut-cases, but we sure do love our country.

You tell that survivor that we remember.

That I will, thank you.:thumbsup2

That is quite an excelent picture for age 11. I'm 35 and can't draw that well.

Folks, I live next to a Texan who made just such a strategic redeployment a few years ago for the purposes of employment. I asked him about Mr Man's statement.

I am now very concerned for the National Media. If the National Media is reading this, please follow Mr Man's advice. For everyone else, lets offer up a prayer for Mr Man and that gnarly group of irascible citizens we know as Texans.
