Since this is the first major holiday since Mom died, we are going to go to a wonderful brunch at one of the hotels here. We will all come back to our new home and sit and rub our bellies and visit. We are all trying to find our new normal.

My in-laws are coming for Thanksgiving. Pray for me.

:rotfl2:

I'm an East Coaster, but it has been many years since I was in bed at a decent hour. Too many all nighters from college followed by grad school messed up my sleep schedule, big time.

on the way home tonight, i was listening to my fave rave conservative talk radio....a guy called in and said that until the electoral college "votes" on 12/15, BOH is not actually president elect...and since he gave up his senatorial position today, he's actually just...well...just a guy.

and yet, despite his lack of place, i understand he had a little telephone chat with the leader of the PLO today(?!?!?!?)

I'm still up. I'm in New Mexico so only an hour ahead of you. As for Thanksgiving I don't really make anything odd but this will get you. My fruit salad recipe (think fruit salad mixed with marshmallow, whipping cream, and coconut) calls for yellow mustard and egg yolks:scared1: . I know it sounds horrid :rotfl: but it is an old family recipe that comes from my grandpa's mother and it's delicious and yes you cook the egg yolk sort of like if you were making lemon curd so no problems there.

Tina

hooray that you're here too!

that's an interesting recipe...i get the yolk part, but am not sure about the mustard...does it add tang? sounds good though.

that sounds really nice and relaxing. my mother died last year, and there isn't a "normal" yet. i guess that's obvious since we're having vegetarian tacos on thanksgiving...

The only pork I ever eat is ribs (mmmmm) and bacon (mmmmm). Don't really like the rest of it. I'm a weirdo. :lmao:

One of many upsides to not being married: No in-laws!
My husband has no in-laws (mom died when I was 17 months, 1st stepmom died when I was 4, parental rights taken away from dad and 2nd stepmom when I was put into foster care at 16) so that throws your theory out the window. ;)

wow, you had a tough time. glad everything worked out nicely.

:rotfl2: Here's the funny part. I've made it with and without the mustard and I can tell absolutely no difference. I assume that it is for a bit of tang though. It's a delicious salad that everyone asks for at Christmas and Thanksgiving, most people in my family have attempted to make it at one time or another and they always wind up scrambling the egg so it has officially been turned over to me and I am expected to bring it. The only problem is that it smells horrible when your cooking the egg. You have to cook the egg with mustard and lemon juice over very low heat until it gets really thick like lemon curd, then you mix that with the whipped cream and add it to pineapple, white cherries (canned royal anne), and madarin oranges, mini marshmallows, and coconut. Let it sit over night and it's fabulous and luckily no longer stinks;) .

I'm sorry you had to go through all of that, T&G. I hope I didn't upset you.

I'm just thinking of all of the trouble most of the women in our family and many of my friends have had with their husbands' families. It's all combined one reason I'm a bit leery of marriage myself.
