Does this make anyone else nervous besides me? Like the part about bypassing the media to get his message across?

I'm thinking of signing up myself --
I'm not worried. A large chunk of his followers were just "Bush haters" who want to keep the GOP out of the White House for revenge. Now that that goal is accomplished, they will fad away. Once "The One" starts to float back down to Earth in people's eyes has he doesn't meet their impossibly high expectations, and they discover that the World doesn't quite love us as much as they thought they would... more of his "army" will quietly slip away.

I should really be starting a list but has anyone heard about:

1. The letter that Ahmadinajad sent to BO. BO absolutely refuses to talk about it to the media.

2. The secret meeting that BO had at an airport hanger last week. THe person he was meeting is being kept top secret.

WTH? For one, I think the American people have the right to know what Amanutjob said to BO and if you wanted a 'top secret' meeting with someone, why on earth pick an airplane hanger at an airport? He knew the media was watching. :sad2:

Hi All:

I just read that Obama won't be going to his dead grandmother's funeral. Can you believe that?! He uses her impending death in the last days of the campaign, but he's just too busy to go and help bury her — the woman who raised him when his own father and mother abandoned him! What a…ohhh, I just can't say what I want to say. I'll just say that it's reason number 1,356 why it makes me sick to my stomach that so many people fell for this awful man's stagecraft. Every single moment if this man's adult life has been a carefully crafted fiction, but he won't be able to maintain the charade over 4 years of the presidency, thank God! National wake-up call coming in 3-2-1…

My friends' son killed himself this morning. He just turned 18. We just came home from their house. It's been a really really sad day. Please say a prayer for the Bailey family in the loss of their son and brother. His little sister is my DD's friend. He cheered competitively with Ashley one year, and his sister did for three years and they were friends. I want to comfort them the best I can, but I know there is not a lot I can do but be there and listen and pray. I'm worried about her after everyone leaves.

Xxxxxx
Im so sorry to hear this.
I will say a prayer for the family

I'm praying for the family. That is so sad...:sad1:

Mr. Man...

In our Ladies Bible Study today, we read 1 John 3:17-18, and I couldn't help but think of you, and the story you told us yesterday. :goodvibes

"But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?...let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth."

DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT FUND AT MASS:

 Why in Sam Hill would they fund ACORN? You'd have to be living under a rock not to know all of the fraud that's gone on under their watch. That is very discouraging.

I was reading the thread y'all have been talking about earlier. It's ironic (among other things...) how the Catholic church is incessantly bashed and that's a-okay, but if you, as others pointed out, say anything against women in other religions not being allowed to walk outside without her father, husband, or brother, for example, someone will undoubtedly come along and start yelling "Religious intolerance!" For some people I know, it's all about mixing and matching and choosing what fits their own agenda. I've been disgusted with the selective attacks on the Mormon church because of the Prop 8 business. Convenient that so many go after them as the target of the protests, when African American churches and their leaders were also very much involved in it getting passed. I guess some people just think it's okay to attack Mormons. Saw that in the primaries. :sad2:

I'm not a Catholic and a lot of what that church believes goes against what I believe. But I will fight for anyone's right to believe as they choose. All it means is that that religion is not for me. Should I go storm the nearest Catholic church and demand they accept my beliefs? Uh, no. :headache:

What never ceases to amaze me are the crowd who think churches should change their doctrines to fit their own standards. I'm not even talking about that thread, I'm thinking of people I personally know from college and back in high school too. I couldn't disagree with that more. Not to drag Ann Coulter into this, but a quote of hers that I love is: "The truth cannot be delivered with novocaine." If a church believes a certain principle that is culturally unpopular, it is not their problem to change their interpretation of scripture to make you happy. You can take care of it yourself by simply finding another church.

I've told y'all before I'm a Southern Baptist. My church is the traditionalist type, member of the SBC, etc. There are churches stricter than ours that don't believe in dancing, but otherwise we are pretty strict. We don't have confession nor do we take communion, but we still have our hot button controversial issues to deal with. Among others, there's the "no sex before marriage" rule. Drinking: Against our beliefs, even wine. Divorce: Against our beliefs; exceptions are if the marriage is abusive or adultery occurs. If you do get a divorce, you're not allowed to be remarried. This is because we interpret scripture as God still sees you as married to the first spouse. My particular church will not marry a couple where one or both people have been divorced. Other churches in the denomination are more lenient and ignore that issue. Divorced people in my church are also not allowed to be preachers, hold high positions in the church, or even be deacons. A lot of people will disagree with that and find it offensive. If it's a big concern or issue for a person, then that version of the denomination is simply not for them. The solution is to find another church, denomination, etc. My former preacher talked about this several times, and maybe 30-40 people exercised their right to disagree and got up and left and never came back. The other 6,000 or so of us stayed put and continued to go there because we either accepted the beliefs, or we didn't think it was a big enough issue worth leaving the church over. I don't agree with the deacon part of it, and I can see why people the other things apply to would be upset by some of those rules. But the deacon issue is not high on my religious priority list, so I stay. I'm sure only a tiny portion of the DIS boards would agree with what my church teaches. And that's okay with me. I would never expect anyone else to adopt my thoughts just because I believe in them.

I guess my point is that some of the people I know just baffle me. We had an elderly lady who would literally scream at my former preacher after church every time his preachings focused on divorce. It was legendary, it was so ridiculous. If you disagree with a church's teachings, why spend all of your energy fighting them? They are under no obligation to you to change their whole philosophy. You just have to find a church that is in line with your beliefs.

Oh, what to do, what to do. I've been avoiding my MIL since the election. She's a life long dem and big BO fan (poor woman, she has no clue what he really is) I dread talking to her. She tries to be polite about it but, she has no idea how deeply I feel about this. She and my FIL tried to get us to go to Clington's inauguration.(I almost threw up) I know she is over the moon with us having our "first black" president but, I don't know how much I'll be able to take. Wish me luck!

is this starting to resemble an episode of Get Smart to anybody else? Maybe the Pink Panther? 'cause this CAN'T be for real...:confused3

It is hard, isn't it? When are you seeing your MIL next?

I'm going out to my mother's for Christmas, with extended family. Very liberal. The kids are begging me not to 'make a scene.' Before the election, my mom asked us not to talk politics, but I can tell pretty much that rule is going to be ignored because their guy won (based on emails, etc.) But we'll see. I try to 'pick my battles' but then again, it is hard to just sit there sometimes.

Hang in there...let us know how it goes with your MIL.

i heard that gordon brown is suggesting a cutting of tax, and that he who shall remain nameless won't be attending tonight's event...they've implied he's giving gordy the cold shoulder for his suggestion.

i dont' have the inlaw situation, but i do work with a bunch of commies....I MEAN....liberals. every time they decide to spew some poison they've heard on npr, i suggest they go read a history book...preferably one written prior to 1985...and get back to me.

Now that'sa good answer! :thumbsup2

I really don't mind debating issues with others, and it's okay that we have different views. What irks me is when people just start giving 'talking points' that they really don't take the time to fully understand.

And that goes both ways...that is why I do try to be informed.

I just heard this as well. He's apparently calling for global tax cuts and BO wants to let the Bush tax cuts expire and add higher taxes on top of that. I haven't seen it here (think Obamabot thread) but I think the world is beginning to realize just what they did in electing this man. You think Bush's approval rating is low, just wait until people realize that they still have to pay their mortgages, pay for gas, have their energy bills doubled, and are required to serve in BO's civilian military force:scared1: .

more often than not, i end up having to, somewhat-patiently, listen to a lot of accusations and name calling. i don't like that. it isn't an actual discussion at that point, it's just somebody being ignorant and vindictive. frankly, i don't have the time for mean spirited spew.

Yup. Christianity is the only religion that is allowed to be trashed. Although Judaism gets it, too.

I'm not a Catholic and a lot of what that church believes goes against what I believe. But I will fight for anyone's right to believe as they choose. All it means is that that religion is not for me. Should I go storm the nearest Catholic church and demand they accept my beliefs? Uh, no. :headache:
Nope. No more than I would walk into a mosque and demand they believe the way I do. We have Freedom of Religion given by the Bill of Rights, freewill given by God.

What never ceases to amaze me are the crowd who think churches should change their doctrines to fit their own standards. I agree.
Do you want to know my take? I think people want the beliefs changed because they want the church to accept the sin. I think they think if that church says it's okay then God will say it's okay. They choose to ignore the parts of the Bible they don't like and think everyone else should accomodate them.

I normally see AND talk to her a couple times a week. It's pretty obvious I've been avoiding her. I'm going to call her tonight. I have to bite the bullet sooner or later...might as well be now.

zactlee. as for the mandatory/voluntary whatever...still just sounds like the U.S. SS to me. i heard a "person" on the radio last night, calling in to our local sussman show, saying, "it's going to train people for disasters...they'll learn how to fill sand bags....." :rolleyes1 um....uh....HUH? i'll bet training isn't required for that.

OH OH OH!!!!! and another guy called in...he's a psychiatrist. used to be if a patient was getting a little out of hand, staff would stand around the patient in a circle to calm the patient and get him back to his room. it was called a "show of force" officially. allegedly, this practice in their hospital is now called a "circle of love"...he called to point out that if those two expressions are used interchangeably, r. emanuel's "it's a circle of love bro" statement may have meant "it's a show of force bro".
:scared1:

Makes one wonder if they were really all that close? :confused3 I guess he has different priorities than some of us and does things as he pleases. I doubt those who support him see anything strange about his behavior as he is "The One". :worship:

Yep...I think you're right.
