MSNBC retracts false Palin story; others duped

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

(11-12) 20:33 PST NEW YORK, (AP) --

MSNBC was the victim of a hoax when it reported that an adviser to John McCain had identified himself as the source of an embarrassing story about former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the network said Wednesday.

David Shuster, an anchor for the cable news network, said on air Monday that Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, had come forth and identified himself as the source of a Fox News Channel story saying Palin had mistakenly believed Africa was a country instead of a continent.

Eisenstadt identifies himself on a blog as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. Yet neither he nor the institute exist; each is part of a hoax dreamed up by a filmmaker named Eitan Gorlin and his partner, Dan Mirvish, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

The Eisenstadt claim had mistakenly been delivered to Shuster by a producer and was used in a political discussion Monday afternoon, MSNBC said.

"The story was not properly vetted and should not have made air," said Jeremy Gaines, network spokesman. "We recognized the error almost immediately and ran a correction on air within minutes."

Gaines told the Times that someone in the network's newsroom had presumed the information solid because it was passed along in an e-mail from a colleague.[/QUOTE]

Always a reliable source.

I can't get anything to play from subsonic, either, but I think it's my wmp and not the site.
I also still need to register, though. Can you only listen to songs that are currently playing? I'd love to listen to Haunted Mansion, too.

as far as i know, you can only listen to what is playing (requests, scheduled, background, soarin, star tunnel...and sometimes holiday). they have SO MUCH from the haunted mansion it'll blow your mind. if you register, you can make requests, otherwise, you'll hear everything eventually.

Oh yeah, Lord knows I always get my info from email fwds:headache:

Okay - I'm on a PC and am not exactly sure what version of windows I am using. It's a fairly new computer so .....

NEWS FLASH! I figured it out!!!! I had been opening up subsonic on firefox -- in replying to your question, wonder, I thought - hey maybe this will work on IE...so I opened it up in IE and Voila!

Thanks for all the help, you guys! :cloud9:

HOORAY!!!! i hope you enjoy it!

This radio thing is GREAT! Right now they have the Christmas parade. Thanks for the link!

As for the e-mail data base I don't really understand why this is a bad thing? RNC and DNC have always had data bases. Just before it was a mailing. At least this way people will know what is going on, it is not like we can trust the MSM to actually get the story correct. We will be able to read what is being proposed right from the source. I think it is more of a consequence of the media NOT doing its job.

Is it 2013 yet? Every day I'm more and more bothered by this guy.

i'll say...seems that with every passing hour there's some more questionable something or other going on. and the guy isn't in office yet! (by that i mean he isn't in office of the president yet, i realize he created the office of president elect...);) .

Oh tell me about it. I'm really wishing that humans hibernated and i could sleep till at least the midterm elections

Bill Ayers is on now. It's Chris interviewing him. He's pressing him hard but Billy Boy is standing his ground. I absolutely detest this man. And he's a liar.

Bill Ayers is a terrorist. The fact that he lied is no surprise. I would have been surprised if he was truthful.

Yeah...in many ways it is like a bad dream...this, and all the uproar going on still over Prop 8.

If I think about it too much, I get really down...:sad1:

I think it is such a sad and fallen world.

On a side, but I guess kind of related, note...

We homeschool our kids. But my son plays sports for the local high school. My DH was talking with someone there, and wow...the way kids are so messed up lately, with drugs, drinking, other problems.

I guess I was just on overload last night. I kept hearing all the Prop 8 aftermath violence that has erupted, all the stuff H is doing and setting up already, then the local stuff with the high school kids...

I sure did a lot of praying last night...

Okay...enough with the doldrums. I'm off to Ladies Bible Study, and hopefully I'll come home renewed! :goodvibes

If only more people would solve problems by trying this first. :thumbsup2

DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT FUND AT MASS:

Perhaps one answer is that on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, millions of Catholics will again be putting in their church's collection plate their annual donation to what the pre-printed envelope calls "Campaign for Human Development: The Catholic Church working to end poverty and injustice in America; We'll turn your dollars into hope for the poor of our nation."

The generous Catholics who respond to that well-phrased appeal probably think they are making a Good Samaritan gift to provide necessaries to the down-and-out. Most would probably be shocked to learn that the money donated to the Campaign for Human Development (CHD) does not go for charity but for radical Obama-style community organizing.

Over the last ten years, CHD has given $7.3 million of Catholic-donated dollars to the Saul Alinsky-style group called ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now). When in 1998 some Catholics complained that CHD grants were not used for Catholic charity but were actually funding groups opposed to church teachings, CHD changed its name to Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

I'll contribute again if they stop these donations but until then, I won't.

If anyone wants to start a thread, go for it. I'm not dealing with the maroons anymore today.

You did great over there. Good job!

Thank you very much.

That so? Very dissapointing to hear. I shall have to do a search on them and see how much they give. They will not be getting my money if this is their practice. I prefer actual charities. Thanks for the info.

MSNBC was the victim of a hoax when it reported that an adviser to John McCain had identified himself as the source of an embarrassing story about former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the network said Wednesday.

And apparently the Palin-bashers haven't learned their lesson...there was a news item [can't remember where I read it] that 'anonymous sources' from the Republican's Governor's Conference complained that all the media attention was going to SP and that she was encouraging it or some such tripe. 'Anonymous sources' ... these were probably sent in an email! :sad2:

I later read of the very classy Bobby, when grilled by some CNN reporter, defend SP repeatedly.

Bill Ayers is on now. It's Chris interviewing him. He's pressing him hard but Billy Boy is standing his ground. I absolutely detest this man. And he's a liar.

Anyone wonder why he's choosing to talk to GMA - not to be a snob or anything but, since he's the worst kind of elitist snob, it puzzles me that he would choose this venue. Seems a little provincial to me....and lends itself to soft-shoe types of questions....

I couldn't help myself: I walked into a hot 1.

Anybody care to take a look?

Good work - and who knew that ALL priests were pedophiles?!?!??!? Nothing like a sweeping generality to really bring that point home...

Oh tell me about it. I'm really wishing that humans hibernated and i could sleep till at least the midterm elections

Me, too!!!!!!!!!

every time i hear ayers' name, in my head i hear carol kane from princess bride screaming:

"LIIIIIIYYYYAAAAAHHHHH....LIyah!"

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've had that same response towards H, especially since Nov 4 ... like when he decided to hire those dastardly lobbyists he railed against all during his campaign or when that application for future H employees was posted or when he leaked the confidential conversation with GWB and got it wrong ...

All that and it's only been a little over a week....it's gonna be a llllooonngggg 4 years...
