SD, I hope you'll feel better soon. It's been running through our house, too. But, there's a lot a work with it so I'm not surprised.

I saw they got AIG exec's on video partying again. :mad: :headache:

I have mixed feeling about the Big 3. I don't see any way not to help them, but I feel like we are constantly throwing money to the wind, not just to them but all of them. My company filed for bankruptcy in January. It was not fun. We hope to come back out by the end of the year, which is better than projected. Now, ours did hurt people at the magnitude the auto industry would. I have to admit until listening to Glen, I didn't think about the re-tooling for hybrids that congress required of the auto plants causing a lot of their financial problems. I still don't see them being managed well so they would probably be in trouble regardless. Like it or not, if in this economy, a person can buy a Toyota made in the US vs a GM made in the US at a higher price, many will pick the Toyota.

I am frustrated at hearing people at work complain about our raises, though. Yes, they are low. No, they do not cover the increase in the insurance premium and deductible. I'm living it. I know. But, I have a job. I finally had to tell them that while I understood, we have had to lay off so many people this year in the US and Canada, and I believe overseas. I know one person in our plant told me a week or so ago that he and two others lost their current jobs but could go back to their previous jobs at a pay cut. No, they definitely are not happy. But, they are happy they did not get totally laid off. Maybe I should not have said anything to the people complaining, but I just got tired of hearing how bad it is when at least we have jobs. I wish it was better too, but all I have to do is watch the news or even look think back to our closed or cut back plants to see it can be worse. Heck, we laid off some in our own plant and they are mad that the insurance is going up. Ok. I'm sorry to vent.

Okay, totally OT but since this is kinda my "home" here, I wanted to share a funny with you guys. I posted a picture of my grandson for you guys when he was born. My daughter is Caucasian, and the baby's father is half Puerto Rican and half Japanese. Anyhow, so last night they were over here for my daughter's birthday, and the baby's father tells me that one of his uncles (not one of the Japanese ones) was over to see the baby last week, and was admiring him and cooing over him, then suddenly asked, "Why does the baby look Asian?" He said they all stared at him for a minute and then just burst out laughing. Ummmm....because HE IS??? Maybe he meant that he wondered why he didn't look more Caucasian since my daughter is so light skinned and blue eyed. My grandson has black hair and definitely looks just like his daddy. It just came out SO funny! I've been giggling about it all day.

Not just you. I was thinking the same thing. I am 40 years old and I can't remember a President Elect ever acting this way before. It is kinda weird if you ask me. Shouldn't he be off having a last vacation before the new job or something?

I'm 40 years old and I can't remember a P.E. ever acting this way either. But, then again, he is ready to "RULE." If that doesn't send shivers down the spine of every American who values freedom and democracy, I don't know what does.

Did anyone hear today all the talk about the Dems "discussions" on private 401K's and retirement plans? I only caught the last bit of a snipit, but it was something to the effect of they want to 'confiscate' 50% of all private retirements upon death and redistribute it and give the other 50% to our heirs??? Has anyone else ever heard this and can someone please tell me I heard it wrong? I am hoping it was just an over zealous radio news guy. They were pretty clear that it was just simply being "discussed"...not sure what they meant by that either.

He was terminated. It was the straw that broke the camel's back so to say. I'm just glad that the PTB are not going to sit back and let PTS intimidate others.

A number of us were surprised yesterday to hear that Republican Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) was stepping down from his leadership position in the House. Congressman Blunt, widely respected as a man of wisdom and experience, has been a good friend to me and to the family. He was the main architect of several of the GOP's biggest legislative successes this year, including provisions that protect U.S. taxpayers. It is expected that Congressman Eric Cantor (R-Va.) will succeed Blunt as Whip, who we believe would be a good choice. Rep. Adam Putnam (R-Fla.) is also stepping aside from the third highest ranking minority position, Republican Conference Chairman, and may well be replaced by a good friend, the well-respected Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.). Finally, there is talk that former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele is in line to take over the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee. Each of these conservatives has shown a commitment to the values that were once the GOP's guiding light. By embracing these leaders, perhaps the Republican Party will rediscover its true voice and return to the fundamental principles that brought it such success.

I like Michael Steele. I have a lot of hope in him to get control of the GOP.

Not that I am ever happy that any one loses their job, but when you are harrassed, justice needs to be served.
 
My youngest is on his segment 1 permit. I have to say he's doing better than My DD did! Except for the garbage can making my car look "hockeymom tough", we haven't had any other incident. Meanwhile, the almost 23 year old found another deer to run into. I swear she's like a deer magnet!:grouphug: :grouphug:

I was glad to read it all ended up working out okay though. :hug:

My poor A/C unit (it is big and sits on the ground of our driveway) has taken quite a beating over the past 3 years or so with two learning to drive. :rotfl:

I'm a 66 model Debbie/Deborah! I tried to change my "name" to deby in fourth grade and my parents said I could live in the tree out back. I decided the tree didn't look good and spelled my name correctly after that. LOL

I watched the interview with Sarah Palin on Greta last night. It was really good! Can't wait to watch the rest of it tonight. Matt Lauer (sp?) did an interview on the Today show, and it just wasn't the same.

I'm a purist, too -- Debbie/Deborah all the way. Teachers always spelled it wrong back in the day [Debi/Debby/Debra????] and it's still spelled wrong most of the time.

Wow - what a popular name here on the Conservative Thread... I'm a 76 model Deborah/Debbie. When I was in grade school I wanted to change my legal name to Debbie because I hated the name Deborah. But as I've gotten older it has grown on me :-)

Oh, this is scary. I hope this isn't true. What do we do now?

:lmao: One of my mother's favorite stories is that I went to VBS under an "alias." I really did. Obviously it wasn't "our church" (we actually didn't have one...my parents had different religious upbringings and just didn't do church with us at all), I'd been invited by a neighbor girl to go, and my mother had let me. She went at the end to collect all my little glue and macaroni and bean art, and couldn't find mine anywhere. She finally asked someone, and they said, "OH, Shelly's things are right over here." I NEVER ever went by Shelly. My father wouldn't let anybody call me anything but Michelle. But not only was I "Shelly" at VBS, I gave myself a new last name too. :rotfl2: My mother loves this story...the only six year old ever to go to VBS under an alias.
