3000 posts, and I only got 10 point deducted from my Good Conduct medal to get it!

Very cool indeed:thumbsup2

Another one? Sheesh.

I don't care that Romney's Mormon. I. Don't. Care.
My concern with Romney is that he was elected in MA; how conservative can you possibly be if you are elected in MA? :confused3

That is a question I have.

I guess I'm confused somewhat on what Romney's stand on some issues are. Has he changed?

"Romney ran against Senator Edward M. Kennedy in 1994. During a debate, Romney declared: 'I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a US Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years we should sustain and support it.' "
(NOTE: Romney has supported abortion since before the 1972 Roe v. Wade ruling!)
- Boston Globe, 3/2/2006
http://www.massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/kennedy_video.html

Now, perhaps he has changed his position, but at one time, he seemed to be in favor of abortion.

In 2002, Romney responded to the National Abortion Rights Action League's candidate survey: ''I respect and will protect a woman's right to choose. This choice is a deeply personal one. Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government's. The truth is, no candidate in the governor's race in either party would deny women abortion rights." Notably, Romney refused to answer the candidate questionnaire sent to him by Massachusetts Citizens for Life.
- Boston Globe, 7/3/2005

"Romney has decided to support experimentation on surplus frozen embryos from in-vitro fertilization procedures."
- National Review Online 2/11/2005

In February 2005, The American Spectator observed of Romney, "He is pro-choice and, aside from the marriage debate, generally in agreement with gay-rights advocates."
- American Spectator, 2/23/2005

Someone help me stay away from that Bush bashing thread. :sad2:

Now that is some good reading there! Some great points being made, but unfortunately it seems to be falling on deaf ears. :scared: I really sincerely worry about the next four years.

Eh, they've been instructed to stay in fight mode in preparation for 2012. No rest for the weary.:rotfl:

Goodnight everybody..

Have a good one. And happy Veterans Day to all the vets on this thread.

^That's why I've said before that while I do like Romney a lot, I don't entirely trust him. It is very possible he changed his mind on things. Reagan was a Democrat at one point, after all. But considering the choices we had, I took the chance on Romney. Way I see it, he has 4 years to show he is really a conservative. My understanding though was that he changed his mind on abortion while in office and governed as if he was pro-life. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyhow, just ducking in to remind everyone Greta Van Susteren is on now on the East Coast, and the whole hour is a new Governor Palin interview. :wizard:

Hello everyone :wave2: Just checking in and catching up. Got Sarah Palin on Greta right now. They're talking clothes right now.

As always Breezy -thanks for the yummy food!

I know someone mentioned earlier today about a Conservative Party in New York. I've never heard of this, but lo and behold, Sean Hannity mentioned tonight that he was not a member of the Republican Party but was a member of the Conservative Party in New York. I'm always learning something new on this thread!

Yeah, yeah, I know - I know!

I just get worked up sometimes :flower3:

Come on you guys. Ya'll know bo would never SHARE the mountain top. It's all his....everything's all about him.

Before I multi-reply from the past 10 pages [:scared1: ], just wondering - has anyone else had the problem of pushing the little multi-quote button to reply, only to forget, by the time you get to the end of the page, why you did it?!?!?!?

Yes, apparently I'm close minded and a bigot because I vote for what I believe in. It's interesting. I talked with two locally that voted for Obama. We actually have discusions that don't involve them calling me a bigot or hateful or close minded. I know why they voted for him. I don't agree with them, but I do not attack them for their reasoning nor do they attack me for my conservative views. One is totally against the republican party. It does not matter who runs. The other just thinks Obama has our best interests at heart because he is angry with Pres. Bush, and he is mad over the high gas and grocery prices. He thinks Obama will decrease them. The one who is against the republican party is african american. I did ask her how things changed so much. Historically, the repubicans were the ones that promoted the freedom of slaves, which she agreed with. Her complaint against republicans was that historically she thought they were worse for the middle class than the democrats. We talked about it because AR was historically blue and turned red. She does believe abortion is wrong but not her right to decide for others. I asked "why is it double homicide if a pregnant woman is murdered," and she could not answer. She did agree the law was condradictory.

Good work, mfd -- whatever we do, politically-speaking, we always need to remember that it is the one-on-one that really tells the message - a personal evangelism, so to speak....

My personal opinion is if I'm abiding by Biblical principles, but the rest of the world hates me, then I must be doing something right! :thumbsup2

I'm finding that the older I get, or maybe it's the further down the Christian road I get, the shrill mouthiness of dissenters matters less and less to me.

Mikelly, mind if I copy that? The shrill mouthiness of dissenters...man, that's a good one...

About Christian-bashing, I hate to say this but some of us Christians need to be bashed! We are a sorry lot at times - greedy, backbiting, hypocritical ...the problem seems to be that the MSM just loves to go on and on and on and on about a public 'evangelical' figure who has transgressed but glibly look the other way if someone else does the same thing. I would think this would teach us lessons in humility and morality but alas, it is not to be....
my prayer is that I would act in a way that is blameless, so that no one can find fault in me, except in terms of my faith - much easier said than done, though

Listen. I've come to the realization that those who are so big about crying racism if you didn't support Obama are the ones who have the problem with race - not us.

You are exactly right, Dolce -- and aren't they so proud of themselves right now? The trouble is - the policies they espouse are the most racist - for instance, abortion has killed 38% of the AA population. 38%?!?!?!?!? That's genocide!!!! But, we're the racists because we want mothers to give birth to their black children!???!!?

Hey! We got another flower!

You know, I think "I have friends who are Christian" may become the new "I have friends who are black".

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

In a word..possibly. The media does love to build someone up and then tear them apart. They've built him up...we'll see what happens next.

For the near future, I do think the MSM's love affair with Obama will continue.

When their arms get tired from patting themselves on the back - when, once again, H has snubbed them - when their ratings plummet to a point that no advertiser wants them [and their ratings are doing a nice job of plummeting right now] - hopefully, we'll see a change....I'm patient, I can wait

What we won't see will be blame pointed at themselves - I'm sure it will be GWB's fault for being such a bad POTUS [that they had to do it, to rescue America!] or perhaps SP's fault [if she hadn't bought all of those clothes] or some such rot...

I think I know kind of how you feel. It feels surreal, in a way. Like I'm watching a bad movie. Except, this won't end in two hours, like a movie would. I look at my kids (19, 17, 15, 12 and 10) and wonder...what will the world be like for them?

But...I can't just sit back and watch it happen. We have got to rally together, and fight to take this country back. I'm trying to learn how to best do that. What "I" can do to make a difference.

I think it would be helpful if people here could post ideas about things like that. Like whoever it was who posted about contacting our Congressmen about Mike Pence for the Republican House Minority leader position. That kind of thing is helpful, I think.

Here's the link to the Republican Study Committee - The Caucus of House Conservatives. It looks like they updated since last night - cool! You can sign up to get emails, there's a youtube channel and an RSS feed. http://rsc.hensarling.house.gov/

I do have that sense of resignation -- and can actually look at his picture without throwing up a little. But it's not the sense of resignation that comes with hopelessness. Looking at the website to see what people are doing to combat the liberal majority helped a lot with this. We can do this!

I would think normally indifference would come next when the person can't harm you any longer, but considering the fact that H could cause great, irreparible damage, we can't afford to become indifferent.

Having a Republican in the WH made me indifferent, too - I wish I had done more to support those Republicans who were actually being conservative.

Have y'all heard about the Obama spokesman who said that Obama is ready to take power and RULE from day one?

It's on Drudge. Disgusting. Well folks, we got what I thought we were gonna get - a dictator, not a president.

He has no intention of Governing - he wants to Rule. :sad2:

Prepare for massive amounts of Executive orders during the next 4 years.

I can't wait to hear what Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would have to say about that one!!!!!! Rule, my great aunt Fanny - he's only there as the puppet of the far left wing of the DNC! Or so they think -- oooo.....the power play ensues...if I didn't think a lot of collateral damage could come as a result of that power play, it'd be a whole lot of fun to watch...

Ya know - I've gotten the impression that H wasn't well-regarded in DC - first of all because he was never there! But I don't think he really connects well on an individual basis - we saw at the bailout that the Dems were trying to push him out front, but he doesn't really have it in him to command confidence and respect. The National Black Caucus didn't even support the bailout when H did.

At first, there may be a lot of posturing and brown-nosing but, soon, that house of cards will fall...

Holy slanted media, Mr Man! Your post reminded me that I need to call and cancel my subscription to Time ASAP! I just signed up for Sports Illustrated (and scored a sweet Panthers jacket to boot) so I no longer need Time for my short reading sessions throughout the week. Enough of that liberal tripe in my house!
...and TimeWarner still gets to keep my money, so it will be a wash for them. :goodvibes

Good job, Zip -- and, when you do, let them know why - that you get more real news from a thread of a Disney-lover's website, than you get from Time...[wonder what would they say to that one?]

I totally agree. Maybe we could have 2 threads.

A fluffy one, going to WDW, had trouble at work, OS are driving me batty. Oh, and Breezy's cooking!

And a "What can I do to make a difference" thread for ideas and information politically speaking.

I am not sad about H (love that, by the way) winning.
I am mad about the Reps giving away the presidency (and congress and senate last round).

That's a great idea, Muushka -- we could start a political action committee and call it the LASAGNA PAC...how does that grab ya?

I wasn't surprised either that Dole lost. She waited too long to take teh campaign seriously, and then when she did it got strange real fast especially toward the end. Kay Hagan shoudl get a grip on herself though. She's nothing but the third Senator from NY. If she doesn't know that now she will in January.

It's always hard for Republicans to win state office in NC, but I though this was an ideal year for McRory to become governor. With Black and other Dem leaders behind bars and Easley a cipher for the least couple years I thought voters would embrace the change and leadership McRory promised. Hmmmm... at least we know it's just the "same old same old" in Raleigh for the next while and not some new strain of wierdness like what's breaking out in Washington. ;)

I went to NC to help with all of the Republican campaigns and EVERYONE lost -- next time, I'm working for the Dems...I seem to have a sabotage-ing sort of effect :sad2: [might be a way to get Steve Cohen booted out!]

Actually, didn't he say bringing the war in Iraq to a RESPONSIBLE end?

That's a BIG difference than "bring the troops home NOW"!!!

Bringing the war in Iraq to a RESPONSIBLE end has been the policy of the Bush administration, and exactly what McCain campaigned on.

Will the liberal lefties who carried Mr. Obama to the presidency attack him for not ending the war on 1/21/09?

Rush said that it will be fun to watch the libs freak out when H actually does something conservative -- would love to see THEM turn on him...

Oh please, anyone but Huckabee...for anything. I think we would have had a winning ticket in a Romney/Palin ticket. Huckabee sabotaged Mitt and I am afraid he will be back in 2012 to do it again!

DAWN!!!! It's great to see you post here! I love your posts - you rock!

Right. And I'm okay with someone changing their mind, as long as they stay with it. Maybe those on here who know more about Romney can fill me in. I sincerely would like to get all the information

I, too, have concerns about Huckabee's electability due to his being a former preacher. I think a lot of people would be concerned about that. I do like his stand on a lot of the issues, and I think he is a very good speaker. I haven't watched his show on Fox, but I thought he was very good in the debates.

I don't know, guys...my head is spinning from all that has happened in the last week. I NEED DISNEY!!!!!!

Whew -- can't keep up and doubt if I will be able to any time in the near future.

I agree. I do not get a warm/fuzzy from Huckabee.

I will go one further though and say that perhaps Mitt Romney isn't the best for the top ticket either. Nothing specific really, just a sense that he doesn't really resonate with people outside the staid conservative mindset (of which I am part). :thumbsup2

I don't know that we have one yet (but I sure like what I am hearing from Gov's Jindal & Palin- not to mention Michael S Steele).

We need to figure out a way to bring back the Big Tent for the Republican Party. Part of this is understanding that legislating morality needs to move back to our personal lives and what we do as individuals.

Fair warning, I am going to be a broken record on this but I think our salvation is to get back to our core precepts and leave the rest to our opponents.

Conservatism is rational and based on an idea that there truly is no such thing as a free lunch. Somebody, somewhere has to pay for it and that person is the individual tax-payer.

Liberalism is much crueler in practice because it promises everything to everyone, yet can never deliver.

& we are about to receive another object lesson on why this is the outcome.....

every. single. time.

JMO

Totally agree. All of the above -- I really like Michael Steele as well -- very disappointed in 2006.

I agree with you Dawn - Pleeeaaassse no Huckabee, and I also agree with Mr. Man - enough with the "close enough" conservatives. I won't throw my hat in for anyone yet, although I really liked what I saw from Palin! I would feel very comfortable with her as POTUS.

I actually like Ann Coulter/Gingrich ticket :rotfl:

No to Huckabee. No to Ann Coulter-- yes to Sean Hannity!!!!!!

I was never shy during the primaries about my objections to both Huckabee and Romney. Huckabee seemed like a nice enough guy, but it didn't sit well with me that he was a minister. I don't mind an elected official having a strong faith and convictions, but I worried that he would be seen as preaching not from the pulpit, but the Oval Office. No thank you. I agree with Mr Man that morality should not be legislated by the government. Prohibition taught us that. Even for those opposed to abortion, it needs to be recognized that they would still occur even if outlawed. Although I still can't grasp why Obama was the only one who would be against saving a child once it was out of the womb.:guilty: Romney just gave me a feeling of being a bit too slick, and I have Republican friends up that way who did not think he was the best candidate. I think Jindal holds a lot of promise for somebody who could lead our party in a really positive direction, and 4 years is no longer far away in the political landscape of 2 year campaign cycles.

You saved me a bunch of writing tonight -- pretty much exactly my opinion on the matters addressed. Thanks SM -- I've had a heck of a day -- you just saved me some time.

Oh -- update: victory at work --- troublemaker was terminated today!!!

So that's whats going on, D ? Real nice. :sad2:
I don't look over there anymore.

I don't normally but I'm in a funky mood tonight and couldn't resist. Since so many of them have set-up camp over on this thread - why not have a peek at theirs?

I've only gone to their thread 1x or 2x.
I stick to the thread with the intelligent posters:teacher:.
