I love horror movies, ghost stories, and all things creepy, I don't actually believe in ghosts though.

When I see movies like The Conjuring or Amityville I just have to wonder, if these stories are "true" then why on Earth did those families stay in the home? If I started levitating or something, you better believe I would never spend the night here again!

What do you think? Would you stay? Does it make you question the events if the families claim that it was so horrifying, yet they continued to live there. :confused3 Amityville did turn out to be a hoax right?

Amityville was a hoax so the family had no problem staying there. :thumbsup2

Would you stay is a good question. I have always told DH that if we ever walked into a house and either of us or the kids heard a voice that said GET OUT!!!!!, we would be leaving and never coming back. Dream home or not. I'm told to go, I'm a going!!!

Yea the only evil in the Amityville house was Ronald De Feo, who claimed one time there was something sinister, then later on claimed his sister Dawn helped then he killed her in a struggle.

I would not stay if my house was haunted by a negative thing. I did work temporarily at a timeshare that was haunted. It had been apartments for elderly been remodeled. Near 1 room, you would get a cigar just lit up smell. Another room, HE was ticked. I would get goosebumps and feel like someone was in my face yelling. With my kooky self , I told him that I was there making sure people didn't mess his place up,lol. And every time I went in, I would say it was just me checking on things. I still felt something there, but not the in my face thing. I thought he didn't know he was dead or didn't want to go and was ticked people were in his place.

Kind of OT anyone know where I can find the "TRUE" story behind the Conjuring? At one point I saw a trailer with three older people basically saying it happend to them but then I did not know their name etc so I could not find out the story.

The book is called House of Darkness House of Light.

I read it many years ago, I may have to read it again.

I saw the website for the book, written by one of the daughters. It sounds like they actually lived there a long time, and her response is lame, they felt like they were supposed to be there and have those experiences. OK

I think it bugs me because I would love to see a movie about a real haunting that makes sense and is totally believable. I've even been ghost hunting to try and find one, but never have. Don't know why I'm such a weirdo!

I remember money being a big reason why they couldn't move. The neighborhood they were living in was in the city, and it was quickly going downhill. Their girls, whole family actually, had some very scary run ins with the boys next door.

They were looking for a way out of the city and sunk every dime they had into the house. I remember liking the book, so it'll be interesting to see if things in the book are amped up for the movie.

Thanks it looks like there are two volumes. Is that correct?

Thanks for the info. I am going to get it and read it now!

ETA: I got this and am reading it on my KINDLE. OMG Andrea Perron is so wordy. She spends WAAAAY too much time describing EVERYTHING! The editor of that book should go back to college or learn what the word brevity means. She is not building the suspense, she is building the boredom. I am of course going to read it with the hopes that once it gets really scary it would not be so tedious. It took me over an hour to read the "sample" that they gave on Amazon! I do not know how many pages are contained in vol 1 because I enlarged the print on the Kindle and it says over 9000 (am guessing it is about 1000 in reality). but now I find out that the Warrens do not even enter the picture till volume II. I am not by any means saying to anyone don't read it, jsut be prepared to skip pages when she expounds for pages on unecessary descriptions.

Are these full length on You Tube? That would be great as I am home alone today and would love to watch them while I am reading the book from which the Conjuring was written.:lmao: Actually I am serious. Of course I am hoping my husband gets home before dark which happens later since it is summer.

They might be. Do a search for them like this: movie name full.

So, When the Lights Went Out full

This is my beef with some authors. They describe EVERYTHING into great detail....the chair they were sitting on and how it was made and how it felt. OMG move on already!!

I am very fascinated with haunting and ghosts....I do believe in them. So I am very excited to see The Conjuring!

Already made plans to see The Conjuring. I hope its as good as its supposed to be. I think its by the same guy that made Insidious. That movie cause me to scream so loud I scared the dog.

Another scary movie based on a true story is A Haunting in Connecticut. It was also an episode of A Haunting. I actually thought the tv episode was scarier than the movie. The black eyed guy freaked me out.

:rotfl2: :lmao: Thats hilarious! :rotfl: I agree, it was a VERY creepy movie to say the least. I bought it actually. I loved it that much! I also liked Haunting/Connecticut. Pretty good movie.

By the time anything scary happens I am so tired of reading all the descriptions that the event loses its impact but I am going to force myself to read it. Half way through and no chills not scared. I HOPE they made the movie more lively.
I read anything that has to do with the paranormal. Another beef with the book it is written by the daughter and she writes it in the third person? I mean it would be more powerful if it was from a first person perspective.

The TV episode of The Haunting scared me so bad, I almost turned it off, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE scary movies!! I was very dissapointed in the film, I didn't find it scary and the story was a bit different than the TV episode. I had been so excited to see it too, because that scared me so bad.

I can't wait to see The Conjuring.

I have also always said, if something says "Get out", I am totally gone, bye bye!!
