For those of you who are not familiar with my family, and have not read previous trippies and the pre-trip report, please let me do the introductions:

Myself (Catherine) (41) - loves anything Disney, especially Pooh and Mickey as Sorcerors Apprentice
DH (John) (47) - luckily loves disney as well, and is usually happy to agree with my plans
DS (Stephen) (14) - not too bad as a teenager, but doesn't like rides that go upside-down!

Thursday 27 July 2006 - Day Nine - MK, Mini Golf & Illuminations Cruise

Today we had a lie-in, and it was also a day I was really looking forward to. Illuminations Cruise with sue&and and their family.

I am up at 8.00 am, but we had agreed to let Stephen have more of a lie-in today. I am sure there is an old Indian proverb "Promises of occasional lie-ins mean less grumbling from a teenager"! He eventually woke up at 10.00 am, and we made it to MK by 11.30 am.

We went straight to POTC, as we still hadn't managed to get to see Captain Jack! The wait was 50 minutes, so we decided to have an early lunch at Columbia Harbour House. After eating it was back to POTC and the wait was down to just 40 minutes!! We decided to wait anyway, and in reality the wait was probably only about 25 minutes. (Is it me or have they changed the queueing system on this attraction??). Everything seemed a lot brighter and we did wonder if there were new costumes?

Then went for a snooze in Hall of Presidents. Despite the music and commentary being loud, I still find myself nodding off in here. Over to Tomorrowland and obtained a FastPass for Stitch. We then went back to the bridge between Liberty Square and the hub to watch the parade.

I do think the parade looks so much better without those globes on. Got a drink and made our way slowly over to Tomorrowland for Stitch. Although we had got a fastpass for this, I still really can't see the point of it.

Wandered down Main Street towards the exit and watched the Main Street band for a few minutes.

Left MK via the ferry and took some random photos

Got back to the car and drove towards the Yacht Club where we were meeting up with our fellow Dissers for the Illuminations Cruise. We still had quite a lot of time to kill so went to play Fantasia Mini Golf first.

I did suggest that DS stood in an arabesque pose next to this hippo to show his dance teacher, but funnily enough he declined! Can't imagine why?

Finished playing golf, but can't remember who won, and made our way to the Yacht & Beach Club. Wow! We have never visited this resort before, but it looked really nice (forgot to take any pictures tho' DOH!). We had arranged to meet sue&and and their family at Beaches & Cream. We were still quite early so decided to have something to eat. Didn't realise how small this place is, but I had my first burger of the holiday and really enjoyed it.

Sue & Andy and their family arrived, and it was one of those moments where you spend at least 5 minutes looking at each other trying to decide if they are who you think they are!!

Anyway, introductions all round, and we sat chatting for half an hour or so until it was time to head for the lighthouse at the Yacht Club Marina to pick up the boat. Met up with our Captain who was Ron, and what a brilliant fun character he was. We never stopped laughing. The first thing he did when he realised we were all Brits was get a Union Jack flag and put it at the back of the boat.

We boarded and Stephen came and sat with us at the back, but he was soon invited by the others to join them at the front.

Captain Ron took us down to MGM, past the Swan and Dolphin and also Boardwalk, giving out really useful bits of information all the time.

Doesn't the Tower of Terror look even more spooky at dusk??

Then it was back up to our mooring point under the bridge between UK and France in World Showcase. Stephen calls this the English Channel!

Well - words cannot really describe how fantastic the fireworks are from that viewing point. Everything was excellent.

This is the only photo that was any good really, because I was still struggling with the settings on my new camera! I didn't know whether to switch the flash off (which meant the photos were all blurry because I couldn't keep my hands steady enough!), or have the flash on and just hope that some photos came out even though the flash is not strong enough to carry that far.

Another excuse to do this again next year methinks!

It was then back to the Yacht Club Marina and thanks all round to Captain Ron, who had made the cruise so enjoyable.

Whilst walking back from the marina, Sue asked if we would like to join their family for a "Kitchen Sink" at Beaches & Cream. The "kids" seemed to be getting on OK, so we said yes please.

There was a wait of 40 minutes for a table, which may have been a little longer, but time soon passed as we all sat chatting. The kids got on really well. Normally Stephen is quite shy until he really gets to know someone, but he was joining in the conversation and cracking jokes along with the best of them.

Table ready and kitchen sink ordered. The lights dimmed and we were presented with our wonderful dessert.

Between the 10 of us we managed it.

Suitable replete, we realised it was now 11.00 pm and we had to reluctantly say our goodbyes. Big thank you to Sue who had actually booked the cruise, and promises to keep in touch. New friends made and we will definitely keep in touch with Sue and her family.

The Illuminations Cruise and the family we shared it with is a memory that will always stay with us, and we still talk about it now.

Left the hotel and back to the Villa to bed.
