....and my DS is on his way to his first day of first grade!!!

Boy what a difference a year makes, when DS started kindergarten I cried the first three days I dropped him off (even rode around the block a couple of times to watch him in the playground before school started). He was so excited to go today, we are all looking forward to a great year.

I have an opinion question, there is a 12 year old boy at our bus stop who has ADHD and is possibly bi-polar and has many issues. Last year they had a big problem with him riding the bus because the bus monitor kept changing his seat and this "upset his routine". Today, (this is the older kids 3rd day of school), the bus monitor went and changed the boys seat and he started having a melt down. His father tried talking to the monitor (who was new) and the bus driver (who was not new) that the child thrives on consistancy and all he wants to do is to move to the seat he had the last two days (which was vacant). The driver and monitor said no, and the child was still fussing when the bus pulled away. I would think that knowing the issues they had with this child last year they would just reassign his seat. Now the father is upset, the child is upset (disrupting the whole bus and wasting transit time) and there seems to be a simple solution. What do you think?

Congrats to DS on 1st Grade!!! Way to go!! {{HUGS}} Mom! ;)

So, why do they keep moving that child's seat? How hard is it to keep this poor child in the same darn seat? I feel for him, really. :(

I would consider asking if the boy is on an IEP. If so, they can have it written into it that he sit in a particular site and can not change it unless a certain proceedure is followed. If they can't do this then they might have to provide special transportation as per the state laws for children with disabilities. ADHD is considered a disability. The schools get extra funding to help the kids with their needs and as such have to follow the same rules as for a blind or deaf child.

This is really inexcusable. Sounds like the bus monitor and the driver are in cahoots to get the kid off the bus. JMHO.

How did your little one do at school today? Fine I hope.

{{hugs}} to you Mom. I'm glad your son was so excited! When my DS got home yesterday he was so tired out from 1st grade that he took a nap for the first time in years.

Glad your son was excited to go to school! Hope he loves school for the rest of his life.
