The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Just discovered this thread! Pretty big Broadway fan... went to school in NYC and saw EVERYTHING pretty much from 200-2004 (dating myself ;))

Used to work at Les Miserables and Phantom, saw both of them countless times.

Now I only get to NYC occasionally, but my husband and I were there in March and we saw Hamilton (SO glad we caught the original cast) and a preview performance of the She Loves Me revival <3

has anyone seen Harry Potter in West End?

I tried to get tickets in hopes of going next year but after sitting on an online queue for 8 hours and not budging we gave up. It will come to broadway either next season or the season after so will get tickets then. It is one of the shows we are actually trying to invest in. Seems like an easy yes but who knows what the buy in would be.

Luck you! She Loves Me was delightful.

Most unsold tickets go to the TKS booths the day of the sale. I've never seen them with a discount less that 50%. You can get the TKS app on your smartphone. Watch sites like broadwaybox.com and playbill.com for discounts. Note, "hot" shows aren't going to have discounts. They may have a few tickets for a "rush".
TodayTix is a good option. Sometimes (and it is very rare) you can go up to the box office closer to show time and ask about any unclaimed rush or lottery tickets. If they have then they will offer them to you for the rush/lottery price. However, some shows like Wicked just sell lottery tickets for a higher cost to the cancellation line if they aren't claimed. You'll only get that deal on shows that don't have an active cancellation line so don't expect it at something like Wicked or Hamilton.

Thank you both! Just looked at TodayTix and saw some good deals. Not sure which shows are hot besides Hamilton (I have come to accept I'll have to win the digital lottery or actual lottery to get a ticket...), but I'd like to see Cats, Waitress, and Falsettos. Guess I could always try my luck at the box office :)

So have any of you rabid theatre fans out there ever attended a live production of Rocky Horror Show? I am in a production and we open tomorrow night. I am VERY curious to see just how much audience participation we get. We have rehearsed with lots of interjections thrown at us to get us used to it and not be thrown off. If anyone has seen the BBC Live version on tv... that is much like how we are doing it. I love show openings! Terrifying and thrilling at the same time!!

I saw Marie and Rosetta this weekend. I really enjoyed it. I had no idea what to expect as my friend picked it just because Rebecca Naomi Jones was in it, I was very happy with our choice.

Have a few things coming up at the end of the month, Anthony Rap and Adam Pascal at studio 54, front page and Cherry Orchard, so a little busy, but I'm excited!

I haven't been to a live performance because of the interruptions. I know some people like them but I'm not in that group. I do have some friends who go and there is still one performance in NYC every Friday night. I hear theirs is pretty rowdy the closer it gets to halloween.

Michael Mott in concert at 54 Below Saturday 9:30pm.... He's very talented - come if you can!

Yes I have. Quite a few years ago, it was on B/way. A big group of us went to it. It was quite fun. They had a big part of the stage coming out into the audience.

We go to a local theater to see it live every year around this time- LOVE IT! We come armed with "props" and know all our lines and where to yell them out LOL.

Tonight we are going to see Kinky Boots- a very last minute deal- someone I know on facebook posted they had four tickets and did anyone want them I was the first to say yes so we are going tonight!

So we opened Rocky Horror two nights ago... and wow what a cool experience! The crowd was insane. I have been doing local theatre for about 10 years now and have never experienced anything like it. Anyone with lines or solos needs to be so focused. Especially the poor narrator who is besieged with "BORING" relentlessly! And the toilet paper and the cards... the stage can be lethal lol! It's a workout too. Some nights we do the usual racy 7:30 show and then turn around and do an 11:00 "dirtier' show. Good for the cardio though! I won't forget this show anytime soon and, while I can whole heartedly see that it won't be everyone's cup of tea, if you want a theatre adventure it would be worth checking out if you ever get the chance!

Anyone have any insight into when cast changes/contract extensions are announced? My sister really wants to see Aladdin and she really wants to see James Monroe Iglehart. I'm already making a trip to NYC in March (neither of us are local) but from what I'm able to find, the cast has only signed on until February. If February is going to be it, I'm willing to see about making a second trip but I'd like to avoid it if at all possible.

Won $35 lottery tickets for Wicked's Wednesday matinee. This was my first time seeing Wicked and it was absolutely mesmerizing. Incredible orchestra seats (love the theater and how we didn't have any obstructed view from the rows in front of us). Glenda was out of this world!
Won $30 Lion King lottery tx the week before, also fabulous orchestra seats (and my first time).

My sister won Something Rotten lottery tickets a couple of weeks ago as well. I'm lucky to have days off during the week and will do the digital lottery almost every week. Can't believe it took me this long to know about it!

I was at the closing night performance of Kristin Chenoweth's show. It was pure perfection. She's made of star quality. She was very emotional during the show, which made it even more emotional for me. I got to meet her afterwards and she was so sweet.

We saw Fiddler on the Roof this w/end. This is one of my all time fav musicals. I saw it the last time it was on B/way, about 5-6 years ago.

This version was not my fav. Nothing really "bad", just lots of little things. Tevia was great. He could really sing. The actress who played Golda was just to young.

The dance numbers were good, not great, and often not quite in sync. The whole show played very low to the stage. It didn't utilize it's height. The costumes were ok, again not great. Some things not quite "period" correct. When in crowd scenes, the main characters "blended". Good costumes should make them "stand out".

The program scene just didn't work.

They also tried to inject "humor" where it didn't belong. For instance, the very last scene where they are packing and preparing to leave. They had the youngest girls jump up and down and scream "we're going on a boat and train", then Golda hushed them.

It kind of felt like a "good college" show. Not quite B/way caliber. I don't think it was the cast, rather they tried to put on the show as cheaply as they could. And it shows.

I didn't see it but I wasn't impressed with the cast recording . I love the OBC and the movie ST.

I'm sorry you felt it was lacking. I love everything about this production. Maybe I'm biased because Bartlett Sher is my favorite director and Danny Burstein is my favorite actor. Judy Kuhn (Golde) is 58, but I agree that she looks younger. She was also the singing voice of Pocahontas, btw. I'm about to see the show for the fourth time and I'll miss it when it closes at the end of the year.

Judy Kuhn is 58, so I'm sure she'd be flattered that she looked too young (I agree that she looks younger). She was also the singing voice of Pocahontas, btw. I'm with you, granted I saw it back in late Feb, but I thought it was incredible. I cried through the whole thing.. but it's also a very meaningful musical for me.

We also really enjoyed it. I have small quibbles with it but overall really liked the production a great deal.
