The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Will any of you be able to take advantage of the Broadway week offers?

Sure wish I could find a way to go. This is a busy time of the year for both DH and I though, there is just no way we could take off in the middle of the week to see a matinee in New York, which is 5 hours from us. Would love to see Seminar though!

I just saw Seminar tonight! It was really good. Alan Rickman is awesome...he was basically playing a writing instructor as mean as Professor Snape, but with more f-bombs. :rotfl:

We saw Sister Act today. While it started a little slow for me (I was concerned the first 1/2 hour or so that we had made a mistake buying tickets) it turned out to be a really enjoyable, fun show for a Sunday afternoon. We love Carolee Carmello (Mother Superior) and just seeing her again was a great day for us.

If you are looking for a light, entertaining show you can bring the whole family to - I would recommend Sister Act. No thinking involved, just a good time!

I was able to get wicked tickets for DD, a friend and I. I've already seen it 4 times but DD has been dying to see it for about 3 years.

If we had the $$ I would also take her to see anything goes before this promotion ends but no such luck. Hoping we can afford to see another show in late Feb and then in again in march.

But we are seeing how to succeed in business with Darren Criss on wed!

I LOVE Sister Act! Patina Miller is wonderful, and I love Carolee! I haven't seen it with her yet. I saw it twice with Clark and can't wait to see it with Carolee.

I would have loved to have seen the final performance of Billy Elliot tonight. I heard that all 4 kids playing Billy alternated in the role throughout the show. Plus both of the kids playing Michael got to go on as well (one performed Act 1, the other Act 2). They did the same with the ballet girls and the kids who play the small boy.

What a great way to end the show! :thumbsup2

Those of you on Long Island, have you ever seen a show at Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts? I went to see "12 Angry Men" there yesterday, and I was very impressed. Great cast, they did a fantastic job. I loved it!

Just scored some tickets to see Porgy and Bess.

Did anyone get the email for 25% off broadway shows? I'll forward it to you, if anyone is interested. PM me. had a numer of good shows on the list.

Just saw Anything Goes at yesterday's afternoon matinee. What a fun show! I thought it would be a little 'dated' but it was a riot! The women's dresses were to die for - kudos to the costume designer. We couldn't wait for the next scene change to see what they were wearing next. Dancing and singing were phenominal.

And all I can say is .... Sutton Foster is a force of nature. DD, who is very involved in professional musical theater and sees a lot of very talented people, was totally awe-struck!

P.S. Got great discounts for great seats. The weeks in Jan and Feb, after the holiday tourists leave, is a perfect time to have a good choice of seats for more reasonable prices.

Well, that put the nail in the coffin for us. No way in hell I'm going to listen to Taylor Swift butcher my absolute favorite character ever! Live???? :scared1: You'll leave the movie with your ears bleeding! :headache:

I am holding out hope that Taylor will see the folly in this HUGE mistake, realize that there is no way she can do justice to this role, and contact the producers to bow out gracefully.

(Hey, I can dream, can't I?)

That's what I told dd, she needs to decide she really needs to devote her time to recording a new CD instead, it would be a nice graceful way to bow out!

Thanks for this review. DD LOVES sutton foster and wanted to see this for her half birthday and i wasn't sure if i could swing it, but i am going to do what i can to make it happen.

But i am excited because we are seeing how to succeed in business with Darren Criss this wed and at the end of the month we will be seeing wicked! we always try to see shows when it's slower. it helps that DD's b-day is in Aug and we always see 1 show for her b-day and then 2 shows for christmas (but if i can get a decent discount then that can stretch to more than that number).

That's so cool that he got to go! I've seen Billy Elliot 3 times: once in NY, and twice in London (we liked it so much in London that we went back the next night to see it again). It was such a great show. :thumbsup2

I've been to two closing nights. The first was Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of Love, which closed in 1991. It was just a regular performance, the only difference was that the understudies joined in during the curtain calls.

The other closing I went to was for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. That was a LOT of fun. Kristin Chenowith had just won the Tony for playing Sally the week before, so she got a ton of applause. Then Roger Bart (who also won a Tony the week before for playing Snoopy) appeared, but he didn't get quite as much applause as Kristin did, so when it ended he just said "That's it?!?!? and everyone cheered again. :rotfl:

'Snoopy' also did an encore when he finished singing "Suppertime", he ran back out and said "Thought you could get rid of me, could you?!" and finished off the song a second time. That was great.

The finale was sad though...they all sing "Happiness" and you could see everyone was tearing up at the end. The very last line is Lucy saying to Charlie Brown "You're a good man, Charlie Brown!" and she choked up saying it.

Such a great show. Still sad it closed so soon!

I think it was the early '90's when we saw the final performance of Grease! - it was on Superbowl Sunday. The cast was very emotional, we didn't even know it would be the final performance when we bought the tickets. This was way back in the days when Rosie O'Donnell had been in it.

Last year we saw the final performance of American Idiot (after seeing it 18 other times). Green Day took the stage after the final curtain and did a 45-minute concert - one of the best nights of my life!

eta: we also saw one of the final performances of Hairspray - Harvey Fierstein came back to his original role - it was wonderful!

My DD and I were lucky enough to get tickets for the final show of Billy. We had seen it twice before and really wanted to be there to experience this. Seeing all 4 current Billy's rotating thru the show was really special. THEN, during the curtain call the original 3 and 5 other Billy's came up on stage and were part of the finale!

Being part of the audience for this was just very special. I would guess that half the audience had been or were involved in the show in some way. The atmosphere was so electric it was just incredible.

After the show, my DD stood at the stage door and got autographs from all the Billy's including all 3 of the originals. There was a young boy who had seen the show in Pittsburgh at the age of 5 and since had been studying dance who was also there getting everyone to sign a Billy T-shirt. Really cool how the show has inspired him to become a dancer too! He said to me "I want to be on Broadway as a Billy some day"!

Saw the finale of Beauty and the Beast yr ago, they brought Donny Osmond back as Gaston, it was amazing!! Was able to take many pictures at the end of the performance. No one stopped the picture taking since it was the final performance!!! memorable experience to say the least!:goodvibes

Sharon, I was there as well! Beauty and the Beast was my very first broadway show - at the Palace before it moved to the Lunt-Fontanne. I *HAD* to be there at the closing.

It was an amazing experience wasn't it??? So glad I got the chance to nab tickets, thanks to Donny's website! Beauty and the Beast is a wonderful production, seeing the tour locally this spring, twice! Really looking forward to it!

I saw how to succeed in business with darren Criss the other night. While he wasn't the strongest singer I have ever seen on broadway he has chrisma to spare.

Dd LOVED LOVED the show. The rest of the cast was great (Jeff bridges can't sing but he can act). Dd wants to see it again with nick Jonas and I may just let her ;)
