The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Auditioning next month for a top-of-the-line, highly competitive musical theatre school! Who knows? Maybe you'll see me on Broadway one day :cutie:

I'm going to see Mary Poppins on the 27th! I'm actually really excited (I was never really that into the movie). A couple of my friends saw it on broadway a few years ago and they said it was awesome. I just can't wait to see how they stage it.

That's totally cool. I'm really looking forward to it.

A friend of mine is the accompanist for the tour. If you see a short-ish, baldish guy with a friendly smile and a mustache playing piano, say hi to Chip :)

That's cool you have a friend playing the piano for the tour.

I am finally going to NYC on March 11th to 14th. I have not been in years (just driving thru to other places). We are going to see That Champtionship Season with Keifer Sutherland, Chris Noth & Jason Patric on Friday night, Wicked on Saturday night and the Broadway Cares for Aids concert with ABC daytime stars on Sunday night. I am sooo excited. Has anyone been to the Broadway Cares concert before? It looks amazing and we can't wait. Also, finally getting to see Wicked is going to be great! Have 2nd and 4th row seats for all the shows. Should I see anthing else during matinees or do you think I am already doing too much?

Good luck to you! If I could pick a new career and go back to age 18 and start over, that is totally my dream job! Jealous!

I do community theater though, my husband and I were both just cast in the ensemble in a community theater production of "Chicago," so we are SUPER excited about that! I don't have that much of a dance background, but I must have done well enough to pass the dance part of the audition...so this will be a fun challenge!

Very excited to say we're taking our daughters to see Les Mis in a few weeks when it comes to town. I'm really curious to see what they think of it.

Ahhh somehow I got unsubscribed to this thread (or kicked off? I hope not).

Well these are all touring productions but since I was last here I've seen:

White Christmas
Beauty & The Beast
Rock of Ages
Wonderland (preview of the Broadway show with the cast that will be performing it at the Marquis theatre!)
Young Frankenstein
Billy Elliot

We bought the Young Frankenstein tix cause my DH wanted to go... I really had no desire. I am not a fan of the movie. However.... this show was GREAT! So funny and enjoyable. We were in the last row and there was NOONE around us (lol - I got a great deal... guess noone else bought that deal).

Going to see West Side Story in march and more! Our theatre just released the lineup for next season too - exciting!

I forgot! I also have a ticket to the first preview of Roundabout's "The People in the Picture" that I got for $10! Exciting! I saw Donna Murphy in "The King and I" (my first Broadway show) when I was 7 and then I saw Nicole Parker (of MadTV) in "Wicked" about two years ago.

Oh and I'm seeing my friend in "Sister Act" most likely on April 16 (the day after my birthday). I am SO excited for this one! I saw their performance on "The View" last week and it looks awesome!

I have seen touring productions of Billy Elliot, Cats (eh) and Rock of Ages since I last posted here also. The first and the last were fantastic, Cats, not so much. I also saw Wicked again.

Dd wants to see Next to Normal this year, and we are seeing Hairspray also. (she is also performing in her HS production of Godspell and played Old Max in the Grinch at Christmas, so we have been very theater busy, just not Broadway).

I had looked off and on for a broadway thread. Yay! I'm a huge broadway fan to the point where I worked my butt off and now work in the theater in NY. I've subbed on a broadway show and now work on one of the long playing shows (that used to be on broadway).

I always love hearing what people are seeing and what they are liking!

Off to subscribe to this thread. :)

Oh, and since I last posted, we HAVE seen the following touring productions:

Spamalot - LOVED it!
Mary Poppins - DH and I liked it more than the teens, but we did like the flying!

Next month we will see Les Miserables in Louisville, KY, and then Next to Normal, with Alice Ripley, in Des Moines. Can't wait for these shows! :woohoo:

Does high school count?

Our 15 year old DS is in his school production of "Bye Bye Birdie" in a few weeks, so we will see that too!

Oh yeah, high school counts! :thumbsup2 That's where I spend all my time these days: high school theatre. My daughter is a sophomore and plans on a theatre major. She isn't so much interested in the performance end but in techincal theatre and theatre ed.

I saw Rock of Ages a couple of weeks ago, on tour. I was pleasantly surprised :) My friend had wanted me to go with her and I said yes but jukebox musicals are not my thing at all. I also tend to like shows that include people dying. LOL
It was a really fun show, though, and even though the cast has been doing it for a while now, it seemed both fresh and genuine.

We had so much fun when we saw that! :woohoo:
