To fight back, JSTO has a gay kissing scene, and a scene with Satan's Sluts dancing around topless, and KKK members dancing around. Naked strippers reincarnated as Adam and Eve are there, too.

It one Critic's Choice Awards, Laurence Oliver awards, and a lot of other awards too. People also took it to the High Court of Britain suing it or something like that. That's worth 10 million Tony Awards right there.

We see 'Spring Awakening' next month, on Mother's Day. My friend and I bought Broadway Boston package....so we could take our two dd's to some decent shows. Never stopped to think about sitting there, on Mother's Day, watching 'SA' with two 15 y/o girls. Oh my...what was I thinking?!!

I saw Spring Awakening on B'way with my mother - which for most people might be awkward. My mom? She went back and saw it again. She loved it.

My boss on the other hand, was traumatized for life after seeing it.

Well I had JUST turned 13 when I saw it. I just hope that wasn't her birthday present, if not then dang it! But I still come close.

JSTO was written with the sole intent to offend. The writers went out of their way to put together the most taboo and frequently irreverent and pointless piece of live theatre ever written.

What's nuts was in the process they wrote some rather solid vocal pieces.

The difference between SA and JSTO can be boiled down to their messages and source material...

SA was an award winning coming of age novel and film long before it was a musical...

JSTO...really has no intent other than it exists to offend...

I enjoyed both...neither would be in my top ten by any means though.

The play version of SA is much worse than the musical. The writers of the musical really toned it down.

(i.e. Melchior raping Wendla as opposed to consensual sex, Moritz returns in the graveyard holding his head and tries to convince Melchior to go "with him" as opposed to Wendla and Mortiz telling him "no, don't die", the Masked Man character being removed from the musical, etc)

The play gives me shivers. It's so haunting, and sort of hard to read, content-wise.

I'm so glad I found this thread, I'm a HUGE Broadway fan! My family's been in theater clubs for as long as I can remember and we love seeing shows as often as we can. My first Broadway show was Joseph with Michael Damien back in 1993 and I've see a good 40 or 50 Broadway and off-Broadway shows since. My favorites are definitely Joesph, Rent, Spring Awakening and Rock of Ages. I bought the Spring Awakening companion book last year and it's awesome! It has the entire book of the show and song lyrics, lots of pictures from the show and behind the scenes, and it's written like a diary of the characters so it's really cool. Rock of Ages was HILARIOUS!!!!! We saw it off-Broadway at the New World Stages last year and there were parts where I couldn't catch my breath from laughing so hard. It's the most fun I've had at a show, probably ever

For anyone who goes to the theater often, check out Theatermania and TDF. Theatermania is $100 to join for two people and $150 for four, and then you get a year's worth of tickets to off-Broadway and the occasional Broadway show for $4.50 each, plus you get a pair of free tickets to a show when you join. We got free orchestra tickets to Rent so it was great to see it again before it closed. Last year alone we saw Cry Baby, Legally Blonde, The Marvelous Wonderettes, Jump, Break Out and The Gazillion Bubble Show for $4.50 each. It's an amazing deal. TDF is for anyone working in Education or any union members. It's $25 to join and then you get Broadway and off-Broadway tickets or $25 - $36 each. Again, last summer alone we saw Spring Awakening twice, Rock of Ages, Hairspray again, Xanadu, Spamalot, and Altar Boyz, and we saw Avenue Q this past January all for really cheap. Check them out!

And that's why I think JSTO is worse, because it really has no meaning.

Almost Any Woolly Mammoth Play > The Play SA > The Musical SA

The musical is still good, just not as good.

Isn't it good?!! I love looking through it. I miss that show so much, it was canceled way too soon I never got to see Groff and Lea but I saw it with Kyle Riabko and Hunter Parrish. Both were awesome! I loved Skylar Astin and Matt Doyle too

I'm seeing the tour cast soon. Kyle may or may not be in it (he left at the end of Cleaveland to film a new TV pilot). Matt Doyle is taking over for him til he gets back.

But, I am seeing Blake Bashoff!
