The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

OK, so I've never seen a show actually on Broadway, but I did get to see Rent over the weekend with Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was amazing!!!

I'm going to see Rent in two weeks when it comes to Pittsburgh. I'm really excited about seeing Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal! Glad to hear you loved it!!

I haven't been to see anything in NYC in years...I miss it!

My current theatrical obsession is the rock opera Chess!!! It's a crazy entertaining score and NOBODY ever does it! I'm trying to convince the theatre company I work for to do it next season and it's a tough sell.

Oh and The Producers...love The Producers!:thumbsup2

I can't believe they're touring with the show now!

OMG! How lucky!

Anthony Rapp is one of my favorite Broadway actors of all time. (In fact, I'm listening to the You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown 1999 revival cast now!)

I'd love to see them when they come to Boston, but I'm seeing the Jonas Brothers instead

Ahh, The Producers!

Mel Brooks is a genius. Ge-ni-us!

Love both the 2004 movie and the stage show. Saw it with dad, and we couldn't stop laughing!

I know...and I have the honor of actually DOING the show right now which is a riot! I'm playing Leo.

LOL, I'm seeing them too! Luckily the tickets went on sale 6 months apart. I feel sooooo lucky to have seen Adam and Anthony, they are wonderful!

I wish there were a remake of the Goodbye Girl or Chapter Two on the horizon.....that would be great!:goodvibes

Hello, I am feeling lazy so I am not gonna read the whole thread, but I would really like some input.

We are leaving next Saturday for NY. I need to get tickets for Easter Sunday.

It's me, DH, DD16, and DS13. We have already seen Lion King, Spring Awakening, Drowsy Chaperone, and many other here, but not on Broadway. DD and I are up for anything, but I would like to find something for DH and DS13...

Suggestions welcome:

I was looking at Rock of Ages, Shrek, Jersey Boys, and even off-broadway.

Thanks everyone.

Oh dear God...dd, 15, is dying to see it when it gets to Boston in July. We did see Adam Pascal do a solo show in Boston last winter/fall..it was pretty terrific.

At this late date, your best bet may just be same day tickets at the TKTS booth in Times Sq. I know Shrek was always an option at TKTS when we were there.

Have you seen/thought about Wicked? Fantastic show. I've seen it twice, and absoultely cannot get sick nor bored of it! I also love the soundtrack for Avenue Q (a bit explicit, but if your DS13 saw and handled Spring Awakening, he should be able to do the same for Avenue Q. Great show, very entertaining and clever!)

PK Disney Dork, that's awesome! Leo's one of my favorite characters.

Shrek was nothing special - the cast was great, though - the humor was a little too much at times. If you want classic Broadway, Guys and Dolls was great - I've heard that Hair and West Side Story are great, too. As for off-Broadway - I definitely recommend either Altar Boyz or The Marvelous Wonderettes.

Anyone seen Dirty Dancing yet? Going this weekend with my daughters dance company here in Boston! :dance3: Wondering if there are any reviews any one wants to share??!!! :confused3
Some of the parents of the dancers in the dance company are also going to see Jersey Boys in September, just the parents though because the girls have no clue:confused3 who the Jersey Boys are so there were no takers!!:lmao: Has any one seen this one? Wondering if any one had any thoughts on this one too!!??!!:confused3
Thanks in advance!!:flower3:

Saw Dirty Dancing in Toronto earlier this year. It was ok. If you love the movie you will like it but it's a little different style than a traditional musical. None of the leads actually sing, there is a band and singers in the background and some music just plays in the background on a radio in the scene.

But the dancing is incredible. The theatre was about 80% woman and they all were screaming.

We saw Dirty Dancing in Boston last month. As my friend and I walked out, to the parking garage, she looked at me and said...'Well, that was adequate.' Which is was. It was okay. But nothing great. The dancing was good, but I found the constantly moving set to be distracting. And the guy that played Johnny just didn't come across the way he should have. He danced beautifully, but it didn't seem heartfelt, it felt very 'trained'. I will admit, no one is going to top Patrick Swayze dancing that part for me...but when he danced it, it just felt so natural.

We see 'Spring Awakening' next month, on Mother's Day. My friend and I bought Broadway Boston package....so we could take our two dd's to some decent shows. Never stopped to think about sitting there, on Mother's Day, watching 'SA' with two 15 y/o girls. Oh my...what was I thinking?!!

It's an amazing cast from what I've seen; you won't regret it.

Kaite Couric did an interview with some of the OBC back in '07. She's taken her 13-year-old daughter, and said it opened a lot of doors for discussion about teen issues.

I'm seeing it with my mom on the 26! (I'm your DD's age)

This isn't Broadway (I think it's West End) but SOMEONE here has to have heard of Jerry Springer: The Opera!, right? Meggers, you don't count cause I've told you about it.

JSYK - Jerry Springer makes Spring Awakening look like Wall-E, IMO.

I don't know what you're talking about. Jerry Springer The Opera friggin promotes Satanism. At least Spring Awakening is a serious musical. JSTO glorifies everything that Spring Awakening unglorifies.

But Spring Awakening has sex. And a hilarious gay kissing scene. And a song titled "Totally ****ed".

How can you not love a song named that?
