~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Hi Jodi - :hippie: Definitely foster the dog, that's a no-brainer:confused3 ? I booked my room this week as well for WDW '10 and was pondering Goofy vs 1/2 and then wondered what on earth I was thinking:rotfl: .

Cindy - Hoping the new drugs are kicking in and the ears are beginning to feel better:hug:

Mike - Way too spooky about Howard being in the pic:) NCV is a Nerve Conduction Velocity test and involves electrodes. They LOST my first test results and I had to repeat the shock treatment again:scared1: .

Dave
- Glad you were able to run despite the nasty virus:sick: .

Howard - Congrats on registering for NYC:banana: MCM sounds like a great plan as well:thumbsup2

Colleen, Jen, Cam, Lou, Chester, Matt, Steve -

We're headed to NYC to take in Mary Poppins tonight:thumbsup2 . I haven't ran in 2 WEEKS and am pretty mean about it:confused: . Not due to a lack of desire, mind you, simply due to a huge case of LTO. I told XH that it would be in everyone's best interest if I get a run in before we leave:rotfl2: .
As for the elusive leg DX, my ortho seems to think it's a compression peroneal neuropathy (compressed nerve on the outside of my lower leg) and that makes sense to me considering I've been plagued with it for 1.5 years and the pain doesn't correlate with mileage. However, the NCV came back negative so no surgery for now. Physical therapy 3 x per week for the next 6 weeks. Whatever lessens the pain works for me:scared: . Hopefully I'll be settled enough this week to begin a true regimented training program. Oh yeah, I BOUGHT a new TM this week since I couldn't deal with the other options for obtaining my old one:laughing: . That should be delivered this week as well, which should increase my training options since it's been difficult integrating training into my new life:rolleyes1 .

OK, here's a totally off-topic question I have for you guys.

Should I foster a dog?

Here's the deal. There's this dog about 1/2 hour from my house. They brought him up from GA in April & found out he was full of cancer. They didn't think he'd make it, but surprise, he's still around. He's in a foster house now, but there are 4 other, active dogs there (he's 15) & they're looking for something a little calmer. My dog's a tic & would be fine with him.
Basically this dog is FTD & they think he's got less than a year to go.

I did this once before & the old dog ended up living for 1 1/2 years!! I just have a soft spot for the seniors. Everybody wants puppies but no one cares about the old bags!

So should I totally disrupt the entire household & take this ol' guy in? or let him croak where he's at?
Take him in Jodi. It's your passion. :thumbsup2

Sara- Have a great time at Mary Poppins. I really want to do the Disney on Broadway thing sometime too. I hope you get a break from your leg pain soon. So what does the person that delivers the TM get?

Jodi: taking in the dog would be a wonderful thing, I know I couldn't do it-- I'd get too attached then sad but the old guy sounds like he could use some love

Sara: enjoy Mary Poppins. We saw it last year-- my only warning is that it is not the same as the movie-- there is one creepy scene where the kids toys put them on trial--strange... good luck with the new TM. We jsut got an ellipse so Butch could exercise without hurting his foot.

Mike: I love the MArio Kart stories :rotfl2: Yes, we are starting to get psyched about the Princess. I have 5-6 miles on tap for today then very little the rest of the week. Butch may try to run a few miles today to see how his foot is holding up and try to make a pace decision for the race based on pain today.

Oh, that's a question I had. Mike, when you went back on the course to find Kathy during the 1/2, how'd you do it? Don't they stop you from going back out there?
Jodi - I cut across the Epcot parking lot over to just after the mile 12 marker (just when the runners come down that last overpass). I tucked my medal in the pocket of my super-cool pants and just jumped right in when she came by. I still had my bib on so there would have been no reason for any official type folks to think anything of it (of course it was my Full bib since I was a dufus and had put the wrong one on for the race!).

DD8 had some sort of virus: fever, headache, stomach ache. She's pretty much back to normal and even has all her make-up school work done.

Sara - Sorry that your test (and re-test) didn't rally answer any questions.

Enjoy the show. Oh, and go easy on the delivery guys.;)

Cindy - Tell Matt I finished the Mirror Cup last night! Thanks for the tip on the Time Trials.

Hey, is Matt running the National half or full?

Jen - Enjoy the taper!

Dave - I hope you are feeling all the way better.

My 18 miler went pretty well this morning. I was going to use that run as a guage to decide if I was going to run the National Marathon in 3 weeks (the half is now at capacity so that decision was made for me). Performance wise, I'm thinking I'd be O.K. but I just wasn't feeling the love. I guess I better figure it out real soon or I'll be out of luck either way.

Cindy, hope your ears are feeling better. I took my turn with this head cold my kids had the last month. It is really nasty. My sinuses are completely full of mucus and everything feels swollen in my head.

Obviously, not much happening on the workout front for me. :sad2: Just trying to get everyone healthy in the family. It has been a TERRIBLE winter for us. We have never been so sick. :guilty:

I start my part time tutoring gig at DD's school on Monday. I am getting 14 hours a week. Not sure how I feel about that yet.:confused3 I guess I have to pay for our Polynesian resort vacation somehow.:thumbsup2

Mike, impressive big numbers you are putting up.:thumbsup2 We have been playing a lot of WiiSports and Wii Fit stuff too. I might have to break out Mario Kart.

Jodi, awe, get the doggy.:yay:

Dave, hope you bounced back from your procedure.:)

Lou is giving me a hard time on facebook. He slams my technical ability and then flees.:rotfl2:

Sara, have fun at Mary Poppins!:dance3:

Howard - Funny you mention NYC, I just signed up for it yesterday! I got an email letting me know that I had a guaranteed entry because I didn't get in in '06, '07, & '08!:headache: That would be too cool if you & Charlie got in  . Logistically speaking, it's supposedly a nightmare. I plan to stay @ my mom's the night before, then head in early. They have busses in various parts of the City that take you to the starting line. One of those busses is right outside of Grand Central. I know the town where Charlie & Judy live, and given its close proximity to NYC, I would think that you could get up in the a.m. & head in. Don't forget, the marathon doesn't start until 10:30 or something, so...I'd poke around on the marathon's boards (that's what I planto do) to get a gist of what "local" people do.

Jodi~ That would be really cool to have a contingent of BOTs + Charlie in NYC for the marathon. The odds of Charlie and I getting selected in the first round is slim, but there is a chance. Kathy (Valentine) has offerd to host me (and Charlie) when we get selected for NYC Marathon. She can see the Varrazano Narrows Bridge from her apartment. That would be totally cool and fun. Getting back home/to her place/etc. following the race would be interesting but I might also be able to assume she'd come to scream team for me/us and would show me the way. :rolleyes1 I'm so needy. But that's another story.

As for adopting a puppy in need, go for it. I am sure ther is a special place in heaven for people like you. :flower3:

Mike writes: Howard - PF still under control?

You're killing me with the MCM entry. I'm putting all my eggs in one fall marathon and running Richmond in mid-November. Hey, that would fit nicely for a MCM, NYC, Richmond trifecta for you.

Kathy stumbled across this video. You and I cross the half finish line at about 4:47 of the video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VObIB_-f7Hg

AFM, I've been running and XT this week. Today was a rest day and I'm shooting for 18 miles in the morning. I'm hoping it goes well.

Lastly, Kathy and I ordered one of those posters at WDW where they use all the little race pictures to make one big picture of Minnie and Mickey breaking the tape. I'm not sure if any of you have ordered one before, but they send it with a key that shows where your picture is. Anyways, we got ours yesterday. I look at Row 31, Column 6 for my picture and what do I see? None other than our beloved Mr. Keener!! Somehow, out of the 14,000 wrong people they could have picked they got Howard!

Mike~ The PF is at bay for the moment. No problems. I have not been running on it just yet. I ran last weekend (2.35 miles) and have XT'ed on it three times since then with no ill after effects. I plan on getting some real miles (5?) tomorrow and seeing where I am with it.

As for the poster, I'd really enjoy seeing it sometime. Maybe you can photo it for me and send me the photo. Something like that. That is very random. I am sure I signed something with really fine print releasing my likeness for such use. I might have to get my attorney to review the documents for accuracy. I might be entitled to some big compensation....free Goofy entries for life, the comfort tent with the elites, etc. :confused3

I'm glad those 18 miles went pretty well for you. :worship: You're my idol. :thumbsup2 I'll get back to that... when I am not sure. I signed up for the Kelly's Logan House 5K on March 7th and I'm signed up for the Caesar Rodney Half on March 15. Other than that, no huge runs (like 18 miles) for me.

I am looking forward to MCM once again. Having you run it with Charlie and I would be a lot of fun. I am sure you'd burn us, but just having you there would be super. I understand your need to run the (inferior) Richmond race though. Just go right ahead. I won't be too upset. :sad2: :sad1: :snooty: I sent a text to Denny (Dennyha) to get the link for his MCM '08 hotel and Charlie and I have now booked (seperate) rooms for MCM. We'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Rosland which is right near the finish area family gathering place. It is only one Metro stop from the start too if I am correct.

Thank you for the YouTube link. I spotted your puke green  sleep pants coming at the designated time and there I was. That is really cool that Kathy spotted us. Please thank her for me.

Sara~ What can I say about the nice note you sent to Cam and I but thank you and I am sending you MAJOR hugs. We are within ear shot anytime. Let me know if you need help moving that treadmill, I'd be glad to help. ;) :rolleyes1

Colleen~ :flower3:
Jen~ :flower3:
Cindy~ I hope you are feeling better  :flower3:

:grouphug:

Howard

Hi Everyone: Not too much for me to report. I've been able to run a couple of miles the past 3 days, but I haven't put any mileage of substance in. I'm hoping I can get a decent length run in today of 5+ miles.

Definitely a day for me to be thankful. I'll start the story with the end...everyone was alright.

Nicole had to get up at 5AM this morning to take Marissa to a cheerleading competition at 7AM that was about 20 miles from home. We had some light snow and ice on the roads and for some reason the salt and plow trucks were not out in their normal force. At around 7:15 Nicole lost control of our SUV on an icy road and it slipped off the road, hit the curb, and flipped over onto it's side in an embankment.

They were able to unbuckle their seat belts but all the doors were locked because the SUV was still in drive. She said our OnStar immediately picked up the accident and someone was speaking to them over the phone within seconds. OnStar was able to call for police/EMTs and stayed on the line with them until help arrived. A nice man showed up quickly and was able to open the rear hatch to let them climb out.

Miraculously neither of them were injured. The police showed up and helped out a lot. Once they realized Nicole was an ER nurse the took extra special care of both of them. No tickets were issued and they gave us advice on how to handle everything with insurance. The SUV was not drivable and was towed to a local body shop. Won't have a damage assessment until tomorrow.

I picked them up about a 30 minutes after the crash and we are all home now counting our blessings.

Lou

Lou, I saw you post this on Facebook, and wished you well there. However, this kind of accident calls for double well-wishes. All my best, and I'm so glad everyone's OK.

Wow Lou - Very scary! I'm so glad to hear everyone is fine. Hug them extra tight tonight.

Lou~ Thank you for sharing the story. I am so glad everyone is still well following what must have been a harrowing ordeal. I am sure Nicole and Marissa will have some post traumatic dreams of the accident. This is one of those times when you appreciate your family even more. Give them a hug for us.

Totally unrelated, I lived up to the bargain I made myself and went out to run in the flurries this afternoon. I ran 6 miles in 57:12 (9:32 pace). Not stellar by any stretch, but for just getting back to it, I am happy about it. I felt pretty good...lethargic, but good. I am feeling the PF a smidge and will ice it as a precaution when I finish posting here.

I wish you all a great week!

:grouphug:

Howard

Lou - As Dave said, I saw this on facebook but had to comment again - I'm so glad that they weren't injured.

Jodi – The NYC Half is Aug. 30th this year?! That is the same date as VA Beach (I think). Hmmm, decisions, decisions. About the dog, I say foster it. You are right, no one else probably will because everyone wants puppies.

Jen – Have a great time on your princess trip. Please post pictures of the medal when you get back!

Sara - :cool1: for the new treadmill!

Cindy- Are you still planning on running in the National Marathon?

Dave – I’m only running the half, so yeah, still running (although I’m guessing this will likely be my slowest half ever).

Oh yes, I think I have committed myself to running the Marine Corps Marathon again this fall.

Excellent! I will be there again in some form or another (either running the 10K or just cheering) and Matt is considering running the Marathon.

Where is everyone lately? In a no-marathon-coming-up-for-me-so-I-won't-post-funk??

I asked Matt why he wasn't posting and he said since he wasn't running much, he was feeling very disconnected from everything running related. :confused3 Whatever.

Cindy - Tell Matt I finished the Mirror Cup last night! Thanks for the tip on the Time Trials.

Hey, is Matt running the National half or full?

My 18 miler went pretty well this morning. I was going to use that run as a guage to decide if I was going to run the National Marathon in 3 weeks (the half is now at capacity so that decision was made for me). Performance wise, I'm thinking I'd be O.K. but I just wasn't feeling the love. I guess I better figure it out real soon or I'll be out of luck either way.

Wait - you won first place in all of the Mirror Cups:scared1: Holy carp! Have you been doing anything else besides playing Mario Kart?

If you are interested, here is the link to a good Mario Kart site. http://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_Wii

I guess some would consider it a spoiler, but it just tells you what characters are better at what, what bikes/karts/characters you unlock by doing what, etc.

Matt is running the half.

You should definitely register for the full. We'll cheer for you after we finish!

I took my turn with this head cold my kids had the last month. It is really nasty. My sinuses are completely full of mucus and everything feels swollen in my head.

I recommend using a neti pot. It kind of grosses me out a bit, but the doctor told me I should use it to help with the pressure in my head from the ear infections. It definitely helps - I can tell it is clearing out my sinuses.

Update on the ear infections from hell: On Tuesday, as I mentioned earlier, I was put on a different antibiotic (because the first one wasn’t working). By Thursday, I was feeling much better. Last night I bent down to pick something up off the floor and had this intense pain in my ear again. WTH?!? I guess I am ok now, but there is still significant pressure in my head. I have to fly cross country (for work) on Wednesday and I am definitely very nervous that I am going to be in a lot of pain.

As for running, this week I only ran Thursday and Saturday (both 4 miles). I’m thinking about trying to get out there this afternoon, but it looks so miserable and gross out. We are supposed to get our first significant snow storm of the season tonight.

Oh, Lou, how scary, I am glad everyone is OK. :wizard:

Keep an eye on them over the next 24 hours, because some pains can surface after the shock wears off.

I recommend using neti pot.
:confused3 Is this something I buy on the streets??:confused3 :rotfl2:

Holy crap, Lou!! That is too scary. I hope everyone is still feeling fine. Thank goodness it was an SUV & not a sedan or something. :grouphug:

:confused3 Is this something I buy on the streets??:confused3 :rotfl2:
:lmao: :rotfl2: You are too funny.
But seriously, if you're lookin' I know a guy in town....;) .

How is everyone doin' today? We know Lou had a rough start, man!

Howard - Congrats on getting 6+ miles in today! Good for you. Watch that foot & ice, ice, ice! I so hope you guys get into NYC!

Dave - Nice to see you're getting back out there as well. Is Pittsburgh a definite for you?

Mike - 18 MILES?? What can i say? :worship: :worship: :worship: Oh, & congrats on the MarioKart Championship :happytv: .

Cindy - Glad to hear that your ears seem to be getting better. Where are you going for work on Weds??? And can't they send someone else?? Don't they know that you have trophies to win & turtles to hurl???

Sara - How was Mary Pop-Ho? Were you able to get any running in today?

Jen - Do you already have a flight for the Princess thing?

Colleen - So have you scored any therapeutic neti POT yet? Can't you get a prescription for that where you live? Hey man, there were some Canadians on the shuttle bus back to the rental car place last week & this one chick had toes that were FUSED TOGETHER!!! Eeewww! My son & I were rollin'. (I'm so mature). Is this like, a Canadian thing?

I noticed you have 2010 Disney marathon in your tag. Did you sign up already?

I ran 5 miles yesterday.;) Wow, what a phenom!

No running today, & by the looks of the forecast, no running for a couple more after that. Snow, snow, snow!:scared1: OK, I'm done with the snow for this season.

Here's the gig with the cancer dog. I called about him & the lady proceeds to tell me that he's very demanding (I hear him barking in the background), but sweet. "Is he house trained?" Well, to be honest, I have 5 dogs & my house is full of dog pee, so he pees too trying to mark his terriorty. "Um, ok...well, maybe that won't be a problem, we have a huge fenced-in back yard." Oh, I do too, he dug out of it in 10 minutes. "Well, we walk our dog a lot...she's a female." He will definitely try & mount her, he's 15, but he hasn't been neutered. "Goodbye".
Sorry, but this isn't the old, decrepit thing that they described in the write up. This dog's lookin' to score with my dog & urinate on my furniture.

On they way home from running errands I stop by the local humane society b/c there was another dog I was considering (b4 i saw the cancer-stud) taking in, as well. An old beagle named Herbie. I ask about him & it turns out that Herbie is very dominant & food aggressive - perhaps he should be in a home without another dog.

OK, I'm leaving. But then the lady says they have this old, little chiuauauauauaua (you know the kind of dog I'm talking about right? Ratty looking things?) in back that needs fostering. The dog was dropped off @ the facility one a.m. & had bilateral ear infections (Cindy). This caused the dog, Hope, to go deaf and her ears to shrivel up. Beautiful. I hate little dogs.

So they bring this pathetic looking thing out....and I think I'm in love  . I mean, this dog is SO freakin' ugly, it's cute. Tomorrow, weather allowing, we're going to bring sorry dog to meet this sorry dog & see if they get along.

Ugh, I'm such a loser. Why do I feel the need to rescue pathetic creatures

:stitch: 'Ohana's Monday Mixer :stitch:

We had so much fun with last week’s Monday Mixer, ‘Ohana is doing it again tomorrow! Come early, stay late, visit on any day of the week. No need to stick to the topic, either. We’re just happy to hear from our cousins and swap a tale or two over some tasty beverages. :drinking1

Tomorrow, we’re curious to find out how you pass the time on long walks/wogs/runs if you don’t listen to music and are training solo. (Or what you do in addition to/as an alternative to listening to music.) What makes the long miles less daunting and maybe even enjoyable? What do you watch for, think about, concentrate on? From the serious to silly to the surreal, we want to hear your stories.

Me, I’m pretty sure I hallucinate, but the rest of you probably have better strategies...

Hope to see you on the ‘Ohana thread. The mixer posts for this week start here.
