So we have an October use year with a 2057 contract end. We always figured it would be tight to use those 2057 points in 3 months so we have always borrowed a year ahead. We also purchased resale with the purchase use year already spent so thats just how we started. I guess we are in trouble for our September 2021 trip assuming this 50% rule stays in place. If I'm understanding it correctly ALL borrowing is limited to 50% until further notice?

I am pretty sure you will have a full year to use your last UY of points

Correct. No one can borrow more than 50% until the policy is changed back.

No date has been mentioned. But IMO, I think it is highly likely it will still be in effect when your 11 month window opens in October.

Se la vie. Well just bank 2021 and do a cash room in 2021 and have a blowout in 2022.

If you have a December Use Year, the last year of points will be valid from 12/01/2056 - 01/31/2057.

I fully expect that there will restrictions on banking and borrowing the final few years for each resort as the final full year (whether 2042, 2057, 2071, etc.) will the the year prior to the Jan. 31 date and only those with a February Use Year will actually have a full year to use those points. I also suspect that maintenance fees will be prorated to reflect the reduced time available for the final year of use for each expiring contract.

Stay tuned! :)

Edited to correct date typo!

Now you have me confused, Doc! I thought Jan. 31 was the end date for all contracts - my BWV ends Jan. 31, 2042, so my 2041 UY is from Sept. 1, 2041 to Jan. 31, 2042. Wouldn't that mean a resort expiring in 2057 ends Jan. 31, 2057, and a 2056 December UY would be from 12/1/2056 to 1/31/2057, not 12/31/2057?

I agree with you that there will be limits on banking and borrowing those last few years, no matter what the end date is!

Yes, that was a typo and I was the one confused!

Those with a December Use Year at a 2057 expiration resort will be able to use their points from Dec. 1, 2056 until Jan. 31, 2057. One one will receive any points in 2057 since will be no Use Year the year the resort expires. :) All current resorts expire on Jan 31 in their expiration year.

Thanks for the correction! :)

Hi. I have one membership with three contracts-BWV, AKV, SSR. I am planning a trip for next spring break. I want to borrow all of my Dec21 BWV points to complete trip to avoid 3 way split stay. Is this allowed if I do not borrow more than 1/2 of my total points? Or would that stay be cancelled because it is more than half of my BWV points? Thanks!

It is per contract so you will be restricted to borrowing no more than 50% of BWV.

I am always borrowing, and we have a March UY. We have about 40% of our 2021 points left, about 500. I was hoping to borrow from 2022 for an Aulani stay in March 2021. From what I gather from this thread, many think the 50% borrowing limit will be in effect next year. I hope not!

If I'm understanding this right no member can borrow more than 50% to make a booking, yet non DVC members can be upgraded to rooms for free,. Rooms that may have been available to members had they had been able to borrow the points they own and have paid for.

Non-DVC members who may be upgraded go into the rooms that are in the inventory that belongs to Disney, not from rooms in the points inventory.

Disney gets room in their inventory from breakage (rooms not booked for points by 60 days prior to check in date), trades (i.e., for cruises, or stays in non-DVC Disney hotels), and from the small percentage they are required to keep for administrative purposes (and have determined are not needed for particular dates) They are not taking rooms for cash guests that belong to DVC Members.

If you are talking about Jambo, have their been any reports of cash guests actually being moved into DVC villas, which are only on the top two floors of the building? The rest of the rooms inJ ambo are part of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is a non-DVC Disney Hotel.

I'm talking about an unfair restriction on DVC members,. I was going to take my sister and her family for the 50th,. There would be 10 of us I was going to book a grand Villa using 2021 points and borrow 2022, now I can't do that.
Then I read that non DVC members have been upgraded to a DVC grand villa, that doesn't seem right.

The upgrade you are talking about is happening in the next 3 weeks due to the closure,

That means that rooms had not yet been booked by members...these things have always been in place within 60 days.

I do not think that this is a practice where Disney is going to start taking it as they have their own rooms to fill...just not know when they are closed.

As soon as you seem those resorts open, guests will not only be moved to DVC.

The resort they were moved from is not open by Disney's choice, so they should move them so as not to ruin their holiday, that's fair,. What's not fair is owners having their plans ruined by no fault of their own by the 50% policy

I am sorry and it is something we owners will have to deal with, but with a points based timeshare, and 3 months of rooms gone, they had to find some way to even it out in the long run.

I understand that, but it seems they will do what they can to make things ok for paying guests, but don't care about DVC owner,. This is what's annoying me
