I am about 99% sure we're doing this on our AK day - even planning to eat at Restaurantosaurus to get the free buckets with the kids meals. Does anyone have a general layout/blueprint? Or pictures? I just want to have an idea of what to expect and how much to prepare for my runner - is there more than one exit?

It can be a bit hectic if you have problems keeping up with a little one. Lots of stairs and slides. Layout is rather confusing, but if I remember correctly there aren't a ton of exits for them to slip out of.

It is hard to keep track of the kids in there. My daughter got lost (from us, not us from her) she ran around looking for help, and I was behind her, but it was too loud for her to hear me, and I couldn't catch up because of all the levels. It is a fun thing, but a little nerving when you have "busy" kids. At the top of it, there is a big sand box digging area, and that is nice, because it is one big room, and there is only one exit, and you can see the entire room from one spot. On the downstairs part, there is tons of level, bridges, slides, caves, etc.

The boneyard part where they do the dig is in a completely different area where they have to cross a bridge. But there is still only 1 exit and 1 entrance. That is where we usually camp out and let the kids just roam because it is hard to keep up with them.

There is officially one exit and entrance but if they wonder over to the dig site from the boneyard there is a fence gate they could slip thru and wonder the park. Guessing it is an emergency exit if needed. I was always afraid DS would do that so I closely followed him. This was a couple years ago so hopefully they secured this area.

My kids LOVED it when they were young.

It's a playground. You bring your kids in, and you bring your kids out. Buy a bottle of cold water, and just relax while you're there.

My concerns is that there's 3 of them and 1 of me... so just trying to get a feel for how "escapeable" it is...

We went in with 5 kids and two parents, the kiddos loved it! We went back twice because it was such a hit. One entrance and exit. It's definitely on our to do list for our upcoming trip.

We went in with 3 kids and 2 parents... then I sent my husband off to ride Everest alone.

I'm sure there are some escape artists out there, but my 3 were always very much confined there.

This is good to hear. We wanted to take our 4&5 yo kiddos there, but my husband has RA and can't easily keep up with them in these giant play areas. This thread may have gotten it back on the list, thank you!

like others have said, one entrance one exit. Also there's a CM at the entrance/exit they make sure keeps are exiting with an adult. When I take my niece and nephews I show them where I am (usually sit down close to the exit) and let them run around. Here's a good video, you can see the CM at the beginning

THANK YOU! That video was amazing - gave me MUCH more insight into the lay of the "land." And confirmed I need to put this on our list as absolute last because if I don't, I will never get my kids out without a fight. That looks like a LOT of fun!

@cosmicmommy , please promise you will file a trip report after your wdw trip! You are so thorough in your planning, I want know how it all turns out!
I plan to! I have a Pre-Trip report going right now, but since I'm past my ADRs (got everything I wanted!) and not quite to FP+ reservations yet, I'm kinda in chill mode.

As others have said there is one way in and one way out, but even with 2 parents and just 1 kid we "lost" ours. There is a bridge that takes kids over to the dig site that she made her way too and we eventually found her over there. Now she knows she needs to stay in the slide area only and needs to ask if she wants to head o the dig site.

I had the same issue. With my then five year old granddaughter. At the time, it was her first trip to Disney World and there wasn't that much she could do (no darkness, no fire, no water, no scary stuff) so this was a release for her. I went with her while the others went to Dinosaur. I gamely followed her across ropes (I am afraid of heights) and made sure I looked after her (she was ready made at the age of four when my son met her mother) but when I needed a break and sat down, I said she could go up somewhere because I could see the exit after the slide so I sat down and waited. And waited. And waited. I then only noticed that there was a bridge over that slide so I had to climb up and over it and I found her happily playing over there. I was not that happy and standing on the bridge when I shouted her name and told her to come up to me. It wasn't a pretty sight as her mother had just come to find both of us so we all had to calm down.

The point is - SHE was happy the entire time there until I shouted her name, it was ME who was the wreck :)

Does the Boneyard close when there is rain? I mean, even like a light rain. From the videos online it seems like it would be really slick with even the lightest sprinkle.

We have only 1/2 day planned for AK, and the Boneyard is a BIG part of that. If the attraction closes, we'd rather not burn the day going there and instead we'll put our HS contingency plan into effect.
